In the early 1970's 71000 Duke of Gloucester was at the end of one of the long lines in the Barry Docks area of the scrapyard. With the official removal of its cylinders before being sold, this would represent one of the more challenging restoration projects. It was, of course, completed and up to the last few years 71000 was a regular mainline express engine.
These were taken of DUKE , not lang before he lost his first tusk ...
He has since lost both !

The statue, titled “Encore,” was created by sculptor Zachary Oxman, a D.C. native.
Ellington is depicted sitting on a giant treble clef while playing a curved piano.
The statue is in front of the Howard Theatre at Florida Avenue and T Street NW.
The Shaw/Uptown area of the District was chosen as the site of the statue because Ellington spent his childhood and early years of his career in the neighborhood.
Oxman was commissioned to complete the piece by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities
The Third HMS Iron Duke
The present HMS Iron Duke is the third ship to bear the name and the fifth Duke Class Type 23 Frigate built for the Royal Navy. She was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders at Scotstoun on the Clyde. She was launched on 2 March 1991 by Mrs Jane King, the wife of the then Secretary of State for Defence, in the presence of the Duke and Duchess of Wellington. She was accepted into service by the Royal Navy on 23 July 1992 and commissioned on 20 May 1993. HMS Iron Duke is one of the most advanced ships in the Royal Navy, carrying an array of weapons and sensors. These include Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles, Stingray Torpedoes, Vertical Launch Sea Wolf Anti-Air Missiles and a 4.5" Mk 8 gun for shore bombardment. She can be employed in a variety of roles but her primary role is anti-submarine operations for which she is well equipped with the latest computer assisted Sonar systems and communications equipment. She carries a Mk 8 Lynx Helicopter which can also be used in a variety of roles.

On October 31, 2009, a group of Duke physics Ph. D.’s and former research
associates gathered at a fancy Chinese restaurant, Lisian, located in the Samsung Electronics tower in Seoul, Korea. After a sumptuous dinner the group relocated to a nearby café to continue cherishing the memories at Duke physics with Professor Moo-Young Han who is spending his sabbatical at Seoul National University.

Built in 1930-35, Duke University Chapel stands at the heart of the Universitys West Campus. The Chapel measures 291 feet long by 63 feet wide by 73 feet high, not counting the tower. The 210-foot tower makes it one of the tallest buildings in Durham County, North Carolina. The Chapel seats about 1,600 people, and its 77 stained-glass windows depict over 800 figures. The Chapel has three world-class pipe organs, and the tower houses a 50-bell carillon.

The Duke House
Amman is the capital and most populous city of Jordan, and the country's economic, political and cultural centre. Situated in north-central Jordan, Amman is the administrative centre of the Amman Governorate. The city has a population of 4,007,526 and a land area of 1,680 square kilometres (648.7 sq mi). Today, Amman is considered to be among the most liberal and westernized Arab cities. It is a major tourist destination in the region, particularly among Arab and European tourists.
The earliest evidence of settlement in the area is a Neolithic site known as 'Ain Ghazal. Its successor was known as "Rabbath Ammon", which was the capital of the Ammonites, then as "Philadelphia", and finally as Amman. It was initially built on seven hills but now spans over 19 hills combining 27 districts, which are administered by the Greater Amman Municipality headed by its mayor Aqel Biltaji. Areas of Amman have either gained their names from the hills (Jabal) or valleys (Wadi) they lie on, such as Jabal Lweibdeh and Wadi Abdoun. East Amman is predominantly filled with historic sites that frequently host cultural activities, while West Amman is more modern and serves as the economic center of the city.
Approximately 2 million visitors arrived in Amman in 2015, which ranked it as the 93rd most visited city in the world and the 5th most visited Arab city. Amman has a relatively fast growing economy, and it is ranked Beta- on the global city index. Moreover, it was named one of the Middle East and North Africa's best cities according to economic, labor, environmental, and socio-cultural factors. The city is among the most popular locations in the Arab world for multinational corporations to set up their regional offices, alongside Doha and only behind Dubai. It is expected that in the next 10 years these three cities will capture the largest share of multinational corporation activity in the region.
Duke Farms is the estate of James Buchanan Duke, of Duke Power and American Tobacco Company, and inherited by his daughter Doris Duke.
Located on 2,700 acres (11 km²) of farm and wood lands in Hillsborough, New Jersey, the property was opened to the public on May 19, 2012 by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation as "a model of environmental stewardship in the 21st Century and (to) inspire visitors to become informed stewards of the land."

I just wanted to follow up on our earlier conversation and place on record how delighted we are with the level of service we are getting from Paul Digby and his teams at Worksop and Newark.
We have been attached to the Scania brand from as far back as 1990 – when trucks were being purchased from East Midland Commercials – and have enjoyed a great working relationship with you personally since the LION Trackhire days. We have engaged many different service / maintenance contractors and even carried out our R&M in house, in the past.
However, the level of service we are consistently getting from Paul (and now Dan) goes above and beyond what we actually expect as an operator.
Within 2 short years we have already grown to a fleet of 21 and hope to add to this further, following our meeting with yourself next week. The decision to stick with the Scania brand is being made on the service we are receiving from Paul Digby and the great relationship we have with you.
Would you be kind enough to make sure that this message is passed to the Keltruck Board and a form of recognition from them to Paul Digby and all concerned, it would be greatly appreciated.
