This is a Dry Cleaner's, Dry Cleaner. The place cleaners take clothing when they don't have a dry cleaning plant on their own premises.

Note the "Yes on J" poster in the right window, below the tape. That Proposition was to retrofit, rather than tear down, the Central Freeway (U.S. Highway 101) which was damaged in the 1989 San Francisco Earthquake. Proposition J was a ballot measure in 1999 and this photo was taken in 2014.

Lawton Dry Cleaners in Brattleboro, Vermont closed in 2013 when the 85-year-old owner, who started working at the shop in 1955 and bought it in 1978, decided it was time to do something else.

 

The graffiti on the walls and chimney in this 2022 photo have since been removed.
