A Chinook helicopter passes over an International Security Assistance Forces convoy in order to drop soldiers off outside Combat Outpost Johnston Jan. 31, in the Arghandab District. Soldiers are frequently transported by air throughout the battle space in order to fill the slots of other soldiers going on leave.

A drop of red wine hits the water and splashed right back. I can't seem to get the exposure right on this one, hence the dark/gray look.

drop of water in my sink

I try my best to balance a water drop on the flower using a syringe, then with camera in hands i take some photos to get the focus point into the drop to catch the background as clear as I can.

U.S. Army soldiers from Fort Bragg, N.C., board a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 440th Airlift Wing, Pope Air Force Base, N.C., during the 13th annual Randy Oler Memorial Toy Drop on Dec. 11, 2010. Also known as Operation Toy Drop, the event is hosted by the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) and supported by Fort Bragg's XVIII Airborne Corps and Pope Air Force Base's 43rd Airlift Wing. Organizers estimate that more than 3,000 soldiers will donate a toy for a lottery ticket and the chance to jump under an international jumpmaster in order to earn their foreign jump wings. The operation gives soldiers and airmen the opportunity to help local families in need over the holidays while boosting moral and incorporating valuable training. Since its inception, Operation Toy Drop has collected and distributed more than 30,000 toys for families of soldiers and orphanages in the local community.

I discovered this simple memorial whilst I was walking back to my B&B in Harmondsworth. A simple bench with a plaque(www.flickr.com/photos/fateapics/54309144843/in/datetaken-...) that reads "In Memory Of Tommy Thomas 1922-2015. 161SD Sqn Lysander Mail Pick-Up" together with a 161 Squadron wreath.

That immediately got my interest as I knew 161 Squadron were part of Special Operations Executive(WW2) who dropped off secret agents and collected communications.

A quick google revealed the really interesting character behind the memorial, including a filmed interview, www.legasee.org.uk/veteran/tommy-thomas/ and an epitaph, www.mylondon.news/news/west-london-news/hero-harmondswort...
