Not to be confused with Snowdrops, this drop of snow melt was too good to miss. The snow arrived early this morning and after thawing partly, is still hanging around this evening.

In the drop you can see the upside down reflection of the the plant behind. The droplet has become the perfect lens.

Water droplets on moss

Water drop bounce using my diy set up. A good example of a Worthington Jet.

Had to lie flat on the ground to get this! I did put a bin bag down first though - is that cheating?!

Gave up on the silver ink. It was just too congealed. Reached for my trusty red and it was still in perfect condition to use. I used more red than usual. The ink is a deep red called 'sanguine'. Sanguine means positive... it also means bloody. I like that.

Drop dead legs, pretty smile,

Hurts my head, gets me wild

Dig that steam, giant butt,

Makes me scream, I get nuh-nuh-nothing but the shakes over you

And nothing else could ever do

You know that you want it, uh

I know what it is

You know that you want it, baby

When the night is through, will I still be loving you?

Dig those moves, vampire

Set me loose, get it higher

Throw my rope, loop-de-loop

Nice white teeth, Betty Boop

Set it…

Thats my friend deep ass ...i mean Depesh (depsy_b@yahoo) in the drop.. see large version...

This one is complicated. Remember, everything in a droplet refraction is upside down. This drop is refracting many images.

1) The leaf it is resting on. That's in the top of the drop (remember, inversion).

2) The red leaves and fence behind the tree

3) Another big drop sitting on the leaf directly behind this drop. You can just see the edge of it in the bokeh to the left of the primary drop. It is refracted n the lower right portion of the drop. In that secondary big drop is also a refraction of the fence, which has been righted because of the repeated refraction, just like we use another lens to right images in telescopes, etc.

4) Finally, me and the surrounding trees are REFLECTED on the surface of the drop. The light is bouncing back from the drop. In 1-3 the lighting is passing through it from behind.

Note hard focus is a few mm in front of the drop. That's the focal point for any images being refracted by the drop as well. The camera and two drops are forming an extended lens, in this case.

Hope I didn't hurt your head. No, I don't think I have a problem. I just think about these things more than most people.

:-)

A Thousand Drops of Light

I know that I post a lot of stick carrying osprey, but I think that they are so interesting to photograph. They never seen to do the same thing twice.

This is a stop action shot of a single drop of milk. The three droplets seen are the remains of the central rebound pillar as it falls back into the milk. To freeze the motion I used an SB-800 flash at 1/128 power triggered with an IR detector.
