A rescue drone designed to save lives, one of a family under development by an ESA-based start-up in the Netherlands.
Inspired by the refugee crisis, the Avy company has been working on robust, long-duration drones capable of detecting people in distress and, if necessary, dropping life jackets, life buoys, food and medicine.
The company was selected from more than a thousand entries as a finalist in the international Drones for Good competition in Dubai.
The company is currently based at ESA’s Business Incubation Centre in Noordwijk, receiving technical and business advice.

Developed by the Pillarists, FRIAR drone units were lightweight and fast. Both lethal and non-lethal munitions could be mounted to their shoulder hardpoints (shown here with gold-coloured stun/smoke grenades).
Before I owned a drone I would often climb nearby hills for some added elevation such as these next three shots. All taken from about 300 feet up looking down on the area between Beluga and McHugh along the Alaska Railroad. In the far distance is Western Alaska and the Alaska Range.
Why gather your own supplies when you can build a perfectly capable drone to do it for you?
Knew somebody would point that out. I'm banking on the fact that you would make this in the early stages of the apocalypse. Therefore you would have the supplies.
Not sure whether Dodgie hates son-in-law's drone or loves it, either way he's definitely on the alert when it comes out, and chases it furiously while it's flying - maybe he thinks it's some kind of mechanical flying squirrel? Who knows what goes on in a collie's brain!
2/2023 - Zanesville, OH
It wasn't my intention to try to shoot the Ohio Central, but it was a short detour off the highway so I went to see what I could see. These B23-Super7s (4095 and 4096) were unfortunately just being parked as I arrived so these were the only sunny-side shots I could get. Since they're on the chopping block, these were nice to see. I saw several more the next day.

Sperry 136 still under repair by the third party contractor. This is the view one would get if climbing one of the old light towers.
10/2022 - Canon City, CO
The CC&RG has a cramped shop and yard in the city next to a small [brick?] works.

Just happened to catch the JVRR picking up a tank car from the MCIDC business park.
We were parked in the McDonald's parking area. when I happened to see one of the firefighters getting ready to test the drone, he was still trying to get it up and running when we left. The NSW fighter brigade was all issued with drones recently.
2/2023 - Sugarcreek, OH
My final real target was the Age of Steam roundhouse. They're not open for the season yet but I wanted to get some new aerial shots. I hope to visit inside asap, possibly this spring. As you can see I arrived just at the tail end of sunlight for the day.
Eristalis tenax is a hoverfly, also known as the drone fly (or "dronefly"). Eristalis tenax is common, migratory and cosmopolitan, the most widely distributed syrphid species in the world. For the last round of shots from the P&C dock, I'll feature CN's new loop and the taconite storage area.
Another frequent hoverfly visitor to my garden. The wing patterns (venation) show up quite well, especially the spurious vein. It is also referred to as the false or floating vein and is one of the features used to confirm that the species belongs to the hoverfly family.
Petite après midi de prise en main d'un drone au dessus de Tournon-sur-Rhône, dans un chouette temps hivernal et à la lumière douce =)

Small afternoon of handling a drone above Tournon-sur-Rhône, in a cool winter weather and in soft light =)
A variety of drone shots from earlier on a summer evening in downtown Syracuse. I like the outtake shot, reminds me of star trails.
