On Thursday, Sept. 14, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey held a demonstration of a driverless shuttle van in operation at Newark Liberty International Airport. The monthlong pilot project marks the first time an autonomous vehicle is operating on public roads in the state of New Jersey as the Port Authority continues to test new technology to improve efficiency, reliability and safety across its facilities.
This unedited footage shows exterior views of the shuttle van in driverless operation during an earlier portion of the monthlong test. An on-board safety driver is mandated for the testing.
