I do not have this bird in my possession-that is illegal.

I had the head drawn but realized it was too big so I erased it and started over but it is still a little bit out of proportion. It is because our brain says the head is most important. I bet this is a common mistake amateurs make (like myself) with this kind of illustration. Many people drawing the human figure often draw the head too big as well. I still really like this and it helps me understand what this animal actually looks like. I think I made the same mistake with my flicker drawing, however:

Still life with shadows, bananas, Hot Hot Rasam Powder, and the chop my mother gave me: 'simplicity' Houston, TX on January 15, 2010

After getting back from a long weekend drive up the coast, I discovered urbanspinner's tangles and wanted to do a tile using only these. I love the way Lichen has emerged, but Banners was a failure (I know what went wrong so next time I can get it right). Dervish was a healthy challenge, and Versailles is so pretty.

In this sketchbook I just put graphite all over the paper and draw and doodle what seems to appear.

Drawings by my Granny.

Some friends and I had a play day where we challenged ourselves to draw freely.

I used a combination of tracing paper and gesso coated calico and came up with some very interesting images

These faces were drawn on to tracing paper using pen and ink.

The images were then left to dry and further ink and paint was added to the reverse

I then cut out the tracing paper images and attached them to a fragment of an old book page

Beta Cephei ranks as the finest double-star in the constellation of the King (Cepheus). The accepted name of Beta Cephei is Alfirk which translates to “the stars of the flock [sheep]”. This flock also consists of two other sheep, Alpha Cephei and Eta Cephei, but these stars no longer carry the name of Alfirk – only Beta Cephei does.

Alfirk in the telescope has a bright white primary star and a distinctive blue secondary star. With a separation of 14 arcseconds the pair are split in any sized telescope. The blue color of the secondary (dimmer) star is intense and can be discerned even in my small 60mm f/15 refractor. In the 155mm refractor (used for the drawing) the blue is breath taking.

Alfirk is really a three-star system. The third star is so close to the primary that it remains invisible in my 155mm refractor.
