Bought a bouquet of brassica flowers and lilies. It struck me as unusual, yet beautiful.

This is my second sketch of brassica (first one was a quick contour drawing). I was doing it at the kitchen table with the natural light in the early afternoon while my son napped and of course I got totally lost in shading, the light changed and I can't recreate the same conditions. I need to figure out a better place for doing longer drawings, so I have a chance to come back and finish at later time if I need to.

I got a couple minutes into the sketch and...guess what... she woke up and changed position.

People draw inspiration from many sources, many of these seem distantly unrelated to the final instance of creation. Some personify these sources of creativity in the form of muses, originally mentioned in ancient Greek writings. Personally, I'd like to imagine my "muses" into 3 personas - which may or may not be linked to the Greek versions. I describe one of my muse as feisty, child-like... almost mischievous and a little unpredictable and wild... ideas are born out of storm - a mindstorm. Another one is motherly and nurturing because an idea has to be fed and taken care of until its complete fruition. And finally, the muse is honest and natural, baring and transparent... nothing contrived and truly reflective of the soul. But what's funny, it seems my muses speak more when I'm down recalling Stevie Smith's "Why does my Muse only speak when whe is unhappy? She does not, I only listen when I am unhappy." Which leads mo to think, how many of these pages were made during times when I'm happy or during times when I'm down?

It took a long time before I made another page in my Moleskine again. And what better topic than to talk about my muse/muses. It take a certain level of motivation to work on art, but once I get inspired the process is easy. And in one way or another, I lost my muse, thus the hiatus.

When observing the bright star Bellatrix (gamma Orionis) in a rich field telescope or binoculars, a small but distinctive grouping of five 8th magnitude stars less than a degree to the north-west pops into view. This collection of stars is designated as Dolidze 17 and is often listed as an Open Cluster in Star Atlases. Higher magnifications diminish the appearance that it is an Open Cluster. Recent stellar measurements have demonstrated that the five stars are not associated with each other and that they just give the illusion of being a sparse Open Cluster. Real or not, it is an attractive little grouping that catches the eye.

Arrived early (shock) for an appointment today and sketched this old church now converted to offices. Bluestone and sandstone - some of the sandstone has crumbled away. Might add some colour now that I'm home.

I was bidding on this beautiful watch on ebay but lost the auction. At least the drawing is mine. As if that wasn’t enough my pen ran out of ink but I want to think it was just the right time to stop ...

I wish you well in whatever way is most appropriate for you but cannot take on the extra work of writing it to you individually. Thank you for your good wishes and to those who have made me their contact. Due to long term health and eye problems I regret I can't take on any new contacts but nearly always manage to reply to your comments.

While researching starfish for this picture I found out that they have crazy awesome regenerative powers! Did you know they have crazy awesome regenerative powers? Apparently, if you cut off one of the star-spokes but don't separate it from the central whatsit, a whole new starfish will grow. I'm not going to try it for myself (neither on my person nor to a poor unsuspecting starfish) but that's pretty cool.
