After talking about playing with viking knit what feels like ages ago, I finally made my draw plate. I used cedar (which is a hard wood), drilled holes, and sanded it down some. Good to go!
I wish I thought of this before: I should have wood burned the hole sizes. Oh, well.

Citizens from Seattle, Bellingham and beyond came together for a
coordinated national day of action to Draw The Line against fossil
fuel foolishness. Inspired by the beautiful Salish Sea
that unites our bio-region, activists are organizing to protect what
they love, building the future they envision, and stop dead in the
tracks the climate cooking corporate criminals threatening our
children's future. Native allies successfully resisting tar sands oil
extraction and transport through their ancestral lands and Youth
fighting for generational justice provided participants with the moral
compass and courage to take our activism to the next level with deepened
commitment and conviction. Honored were the 14 Montana's
who escalated resistance action by engaging in non-violent civil
disobedience sitting on the coal train's railroad right-of-way, an
escalation of the fight since last year's week-long coal export action.
From the plains, to the ports, we the people are united. We are engaged
in a struggle of paradigms, on one side is Goldman Sachs, Warren Buffet
and fossil fuel companies like Arch Coal, Peabody Energy, and Trans
Canada who profit through disregard for life and all things sacred
through uncaring extraction, exploitation, and domination. On the other
side is We The People people non-violently, steadfastly,
defending in a beautiful expression of what we love a world worthy of
passing on to future generations. Bill McKibben and Seattle Mayor Mike
McGinn who also spoke reminded us that when the People Lead, the Leaders
Will Follow. Draw The Line by joining those who share
your values and becoming active members of the numerous groups who made
this event possible: 350Seattle, Rising Tide Seattle,
Backbone Campaign, and Plant For The Planet
Seattle. Allies also present and whose contributions made the
event possible: Sierra Club,
Friends of the Earth, Washington Fair Trade Coalition,
Hereditary Chief Phil Lane Jr., member of the Yankton Sioux &
Chickasaw Nations, and the Four Worlds International Institute Chairman;
Sundance Chief Rueben George of the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation in B.C.

Finn Slough is a tiny Fraser River fishing community located at the south end of No. 4 Road in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The community has approximately 30 residents who live in wooden houses, both floating and built on stilts, along the marshy river bank. Many of the buildings were built between the late 19th century and 1950s and many have decayed severely, while some have been carefully restored. Finn Slough was founded by Finnish settlers who came to Richmond in the 1880s. Most of these residents made a good living from fishing and became local landowners.
Finn Slough (or sometimes Gilmore or Tiffin Slough) can be found on the south arm of the mighty Fraser River in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The Slough is bounded on the Fraser River side by Gilmour Island and on the north by a dyke built to protect Richmond. Access to homes on the Gilmour Island side of the Slough is by a wooden draw-bridge, creating a definite sense of isolation from the nearby urban areas of Richmond and Vancouver.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Savior (Catedral Metropolitana de San Salvador) is the principal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Salvador and the seat of the Archbishop of San Salvador. The church was twice visited by Pope John Paul II who said that the cathedral was "intimately allied with the joys and hopes of the Salvadoran people."[1] During his visits in 1983 and 1996, the Pope knelt and prayed before the Tomb of Archbishop Óscar Romero, assassinated in 1980, whose tomb here is a major pilgrim draw.

The Cathedral site is the place where the old Temple of Santo Domingo (St. Dominic) once stood. The Cathedral stands on the northern side of Plaza Barrios, named after the Salvadoran military hero, Gerardo Barrios. On the western periphery of Plaza Barrios is the old National Palace building. The Cathedral has a history of tragedy and rebirth. Since 1888, a wooden structure Cathedral served as the seat of San Salvador's archbishops. On August 8, 1951, the Old San Salvador Cathedral was consumed by fire as a distraught crowd of onlookers watched. [2]
For the next forty years, the San Salvador Cathedral was a barren concrete structure, of exposed bricks and jutting iron buttresses. During the late 1970s, Archbishop Óscar Romero famously deferred completion of the Cathedral in order to fund projects for the poor. During this time, the Cathedral was the stage of several national sagas, including the grand funerals of assassinated political figures, and Romero's fiery Sunday masses. On May 9, 1979, 24 demonstrators were gunned down by supposedly security forces on the front steps of the Cathedral during the San Salvador Cathedral Massacre.[3]
An even greater toll was exacted on Palm Sunday, March 31, 1980, during the funeral of Archbishop Romero, when 44 people were killed during a stampede after some elements, allegedly members of security forces (although it has never been corroborated) fired on mourners/worshippers and on Romero's funeral cortege, the real gunmen were never identified. Later, the square in front of the Cathedral was the site of rapturous celebrations after the signing of the Chapultepec Peace Accords that ended the Salvadoran Civil War in 1992. The Cathedral was completed and inaugurated on March 19, 1999 and finished off with a festive tiled facade by the Salvadoran master Fernando Llort.[4]
