A book of notes and sketches compiled over the last few months, photocopied onto yellow paper and bound in a blue card cover.

DESCRIPTION:

Two NYA trainees demonstrate machine drafting in this promotional photograph. These "arsenal technical" skills were deemed essential by the government for war production, and graduates of NYA work experience programs were often hired directly into factories producing wartime goods. The number preceding the caption is likely to indicate this slide's place in a presentation format.

CAPTION:

"16. LEARNING MECHANICAL DRAFTING."

DATE:

1939-1943.

SUBJECTS:

Unknown.

CONTEXT:

Founded as one of many New Deal programs designed to alleviate joblessness at the height of the Great Depression, the National Youth Administration established job training and "work experience" programs across the country from 1935 to 1943. Utilizing several nonessential buildings at the Naval Ordnance Plant from 1939 to 1943, the South Charleston program quickly became one of the largest in the country, topping out at roughly 700 youth in 1941-42. While its early stages only included white males aged 17-24, the program later expanded to include female youth and African-Americans.

Just a quick rough draft I did for a local business that hired me to do an ad campaign.

I'm thinking of putting a female in the foreground with a rolling carry-on walking toward the plane, and then the male at the plane looking towards the sun.

Thoughts, ideas?

No strobist info...hooray for no lighting ratios! Shot on my new-to-me nifty fifty. "Why would you get a nifty-fifty when you have a 24-70/2.8L" you ask? Because I scored a free ring-light strobe from a former dentist and the thread was 52mm :) - just gotta get the hot shoe lead to work now!

'missionz' is the name of our year-long teaching series (we are in New Zealand, which is where the 'nz' comes in).

This is the cover for a booklet that we are going to be producing monthly(ish) to track along with the sermons. Planning to retain some common elements, but likely to utilise different colour (yes that's how you spell colour!) sets and backgrounds on front cover.

Inside pages are B&W.

Would love your feedback during this early stage. :)
