The B.A.P. Unión, a Peruvian ship, arrived To Vancouver, BC Canada, Thursday to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Peru.

One of the largest sailing ships in the world.

The tall ship — a traditional sailing vessel — serves as a training ship for Peruvian naval cadets. That country's government says it is the second largest training ship in the world.

The ship has 34 sails, and has a total sail area of more than 3,400 square metres. It houses 243 crew members.

BAP Unión is a training ship of the Peruvian Navy, built between 2012–2015 by Shipyard Marine Industrial Services of Peru, known as SIMA. It is a four-masted, steel-hulled, class "A" barque, composed of 38 steel modules. It has a total length (including bowsprit) of 115.50 m (378 ft 11 in);a beam of 13.50 m (44 ft 3 in); a draft of 6.50 m (21 ft 4 in); an air draft of 53.50 m (175 ft 6 in); a displacement of 3,200 metric tonnes; a speed of 12 knots (22 km/h) and a crew of 250 officers and trainees. The ship's name honors a Peruvian corvette that took part in the first stage of the 1879–1883 War of the Pacific as part of a naval squadron under the command of Miguel Grau, a hero of the Peruvian Navy.

This horse has all the markings of a draft horse, a farm work animal usually used to pull carriages or equipment. It has large hooves and is built strong. The coloring looks like The American Cream, the only draft breed indiginous to the United States. It is considered rare because of a genetic condition that has reduced its numbers. Minimal texture added to reduce sunlight glare. If any flickr members recognize the horse breed, let me know because I'm not sure. Chosen as cover photo on front page of Horses, Ponies, and Foals, Sept. 2019.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

It's Saturday night! If we were able to go to the pub, what would you have? I'm buying :) I'm starting with a violet gin with Fever Tree tonic, followed by a very cold bottle of Prosecco which I may or may not share :)

Just a few minutes after dawn, NS 202 slices through the still-darkened landscape past the CPL bracket mast at Stuarts Draft. A matched set of SD70ACes leads this lengthy train north toward Shenandoah, and eventually Harrisburg. 202 and counterpart 201 are the only intermodal trains to use the lower part of the H-Line, which otherwise is limited to manifests and the occasional unit train. They're hot on the heels of northbound manifest 12Z, and are passing a 15T that's waiting in the siding right behind me.

If you've driven up Snowball Road north of Pagosa Springs, CO, you've noticed the big blue barns and draft horses. There were five mares in this pasture, and all had colts. Ths black mare has twins. Even as young colts, their draft horse heritage is noticeable.

Part of my lengthy chase of an early morning 16T between Buena Vista and Compton, Va brought me to the small borough of Stuarts Draft. Here, the train hustles north at track speed, passing one of the many ex-N&W signals that still guard the sidings on the Shenandoah Line.

A trifecta of white pelicans glide gracefully across the sky. I woke up this morning with urge to fly. What I wouldn't give to be able to soar like a bird amongst the clouds.

NS 3611 heads north through the N&W CPLs at Stuarts Draft as the train heads north toward Shenandoah Yard.

I think this is what these four sand hill cranes are doing. Note the perfect spacing, wing position and diagonal line. (except for the last bird that is on a level plain)

There is always one that doesn't get the word. ;-']

Draft marks are numbers marked on each side of the bow and stern of the vessel. Draft marks show the distance from the bottom of the keel to the waterline.

An oldie, but goodie from Lower Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. The appearance of this light beam trifecta had me scrambling frantically in an attempt to capture it in all its glory. Unfortunately, between large tour groups moving through and a pesky draft that kept blowing away the dust in the air near the rightmost two beams (thus rendering the beams invisible), this was the best I could do. I feel it still gives a pretty good flavor for what was happening though.
