I would have liked to have gotten a bit closer on this male bobolink but he wasn't in the mood for a close approach. So instead for a detailed shot of the bird I tried to get a photo that conveyed a sense of the habitat of this handsome guy.
Bobolinks love open grassy fields where they build their nests on the ground. In summer, they can be found across the northern US and southern Canada and in winter they complete a very long migration - some 12000km - heading down to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay.
I photographed this guy in a field in the picturesque village of Gagetown New Brunswick along the banks of the Saint John River.
