Kess goes into stalker mode every morning when everyone goes out to potty- as soon as she gets done with HER business, she zeros in on Pepper and tries desperately to initiate chase. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. But she tries every morning nonetheless.

The model is Dau, the one on the left (Didà) has on many occasions "ruined" a photo, either by her presence or simply nudging the tripod, whatever. Always up for a photo is that one. This one is I believe a perfect example.

They're not my dogs unfortunately. But they looked so cute!

Was driving through D.W. Field Park in Brockton, Massachusetts, and came upon this group with their Siberian Huskies. They do "meetups" year-round at a variety of New England areas to do some "urban mushing" with their dogs.

For more information about the group, see: www.meetup.com/BOSTONSNOWDOGS/

There are also a number of great YouTube videos on the web of the various meetups.

BARCS, the largest companion animal shelter in Maryland, takes in almost 12,000 dogs and cats a year, plus over 800 exotic wildlife and small mammals. A non-profit organization, BARCS has saved over 40,000 animals in its six years of existence. Every day, 250 animals are living at BARCS, over 200 are being cared for in foster care and roughly 35 new animals arrive at the shelter daily. Volunteers and donations are always needed and welcomed.

Maybe out of sync is more like it.....

"You've had quite enough face time this year, Gio. It's MY turn!"

Here is my final submission for Gio's 52 Weeks for Dogs project. It is part of the challenge posed to show the "handing over of the reins" for those members that are switching dogs in 2011. Gio's had quite enough camera time, though he is moving over to the 12 Months for Dogs project, just so that he doesn't feel replaced or left out.

Romeo is a pushy little bugger and LOVES being in the limelight. Gio is a serious old man who doesn't get bothered by "fame" and just wants to do his job. I wanted to reflect both personalities here. Romeo shoving Gio out of the way, and Gio not being fazed by the antics of the goofy pup.

Romeo is going to be a lot of fun to work with, though I can already sense problems with the black fur. Romeo is a total ham and adores attention, even if it means he has to dress up in costumes. He's a complete goofball, in addition to a very eager worker, and I hope to be able to show some of that in 2011.

I hope I was able to demonstrate all sides of Gio this year. His serious side, which for him takes up most of the space. Everything Gio does is very serious business, and he tackled this project with the same determination that he does everything else. I also hope that I captured some of his quirks and goofiness, along with his patience and tolerance, and of course, the handsome old man that he is!

Everybody knows that elephants weep and dogs love.

It is funny sometimes how their responses so resemble our own that we are tempted to assume identity - we drop the it and call her she.
