As Firebelly's 2007 Design + Marketing Grant recipient, Illinois Safe Schools Alliance had just formed—between GLSEN Chicago and the Coalition for Education on Sexual Orientation—and their new brand identity needed to connect the two groups and unify their image. The resulting brand, brochure and website defined the Alliance's new mission and connected their efforts to an audience that included educators, parents, gay youth and their straight allies.

Just one simple ACT OF KINDNESS can snowball into a world of change. That's literally what happened when Rodney Smith, Jr. helped an elderly man struggling to mow his lawn.
Today, I released an episode sharing this VERY BIG story, as I personally experience Rodney's commitment in Huntsville, Alabama, to help his community.
Rodney has rallied people all over the nation (and beyond) to help their communities. He created a lawn care service that has youth volunteer their time to do yard work for elders, people with disabilities, veterans, and single-parent mothers.
Children are becoming a positive part of the community, learning social skills and giving back, and the recipients receive much needed assistance, maintaining their yards. And this movement is spreading quickly throughout the US.
THIS WASN'T JUST AN INTERVIEW. I flew out to Huntsville, Alabama to meet Rodney and see firsthand how it all works. I joined in, mowed a lawn, met people, and got to see how Rodney is also helping the local homeless community.
This was really something to see, and experience.
Come join me as I head to the south and see the world a little differently. And maybe you'll be inspired to start something and change the world.

For Do.Good Charity, Hope Quilt! I thought I had blues but it turned out I didn't have very much so I substituted brown. Hope that is ok. They're quite boyish, aren't they?? :)
This bronze statue of Benjamin Franklin stands opposite City Hall Park in Printing House Square, Manhattan. It was sculpted by Ernst Plassmann in 1872. (Silence Dogood was one of Ben Franklin's many pseudonyms.)
Wonky Stars - I made duplicate blocks and plan to do so each month to assemble a quilt at the end of the year.
