Sirius in the constellation Canis Major is about 8.6 light years (50 trillion miles) from Earth. That’s relatively close considering the Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million light years away. Alas, I was hoping for a clear night sky.

CN 5800 and KCS 4113 lead a southbound A432 past the coaling towers at Carbondale, IL in February of 2020.
I recall that the train was delayed by a low hanging air hose that the defective detector at Dowell detected. Thanks to some quick work by the CN conductor, the delay to Amtrak 392, which can be seen in the distance on Track One, was brief.

Taken at Chichester Marina last week. I have called it Social Distancing because a young couple on the far pier at the left hand side of the picture were sitting alone watching the sunset. I wanted to reflect what was going on at the moment with Social Distancing and I felt this captured the mood.

The one I referred to yesterday in a comment to Nancy.
They congregate from all over Southern Africa and fly in large flocks sometimes, always eastwards in order to migrate. Some say they all drown in the ocean, some say many of them land up in Madagascar (after at least 800km of ocean). Unlike the migration between Mexico and Canada, these ones don't come back. They migrate and don't come back. So enough must have thought about the next generation before leaving for the ocean.
This specific one makes sure he has some nectar while fluttering 1 km above the big waters by taking a flower along.
Here is someone who had found a peaceful spot for serous "social distancing."
BTW, I am glad "social distancing" does not apply to our dog (or any dog). According to what I read, dogs don't get the current coronavirus. Unfortunately for cat lovers (and cats themselves) cats do. A number of big cats in zoos are infected.
Oh me.
NB - I used a telephoto focal length (FF equiv. 150mm) to bring the distant tree close. The day was bright enough to use a small aperture (f/13) that kept everything in focus. Also, a high shutter speed (1/320s) kept details quite sharp for a hand-held shot.

Remains of barley (Hordeum vulgare) grains found at archaeological sites in the Fertile Crescent indicate that about 10,000 years ago the crop was domesticated there from its wild relative Hordeum spontaneum. The domestication history of barley is revisited based on the assumptions that DNA markers effectively measure genetic distances and that wild populations are genetically different and they have not undergone significant change since domestication. The monophyletic nature of barley domestication is demonstrated based on allelic frequencies at 400 AFLP polymorphic loci studied in 317 wild and 57 cultivated lines. The wild populations from Israel-Jordan are molecularly more similar than are any others to the cultivated gene pool. The results provided support for the hypothesis that the Israel-Jordan area is the region in which barley was brought into culture. Moreover, the diagnostic allele I of the homeobox gene BKn-3, rarely but almost exclusively found in Israel H. spontaneum, is pervasive in western landraces and modern cultivated varieties. In landraces from the Himalayas and India, the BKn-3 allele IIIa prevails, indicating that an allelic substitution has taken place during the migration of barley from the Near East to South Asia. Thus, the Himalayas can be considered a region of domesticated barley diversification.

Leaf Miner Fly (Liriomyza brassicae)
I went looking for flies and had just about given up and was going to head into the files for a fly day image when I spotted this wee one (around 2mm in length) on a leaf of our Hibiscus. It wasn't cooperative and the leaf was moving in the breeze, so the image is not quite as sharp as I would have liked. The image has been heavily cropped as I had to work from a distance or it would move off.

Life isn't easy being a lioness mother! She just came for a group of lionesses to pick up het cub. The cub can been seen behind her left feet/under her belly! She had four cubs, three of them hiding in the bushes at some distance!
