This is a photograph from the fourth annual running of the "Mullingar 10" - a 10 mile road race and fun run which was held in Dalystown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday July 17th 2017 at 11:00. The race was organised by Mullingar Harriers who promoted the event. There was almost 280 participants in the event. The race follows a simple 'figure of 8' route. The race starts from Dalystown National School and heads north briefly to Dalystown cross-roads where there is a left turn which brings runners along the L1122 road. The only real cross-over of the route is at the 2.5 and 7.5 mile mark. The race completes a loop between 2.5 and the 7.5 mile mark which brings runners into the locality of Ballinagore. The final 2.5 miles of the race brings runners back through Cloneheigue and the final 1.5 miles of the race is along straight road heading north back to Dalystown and the finish outside of Wallace's Pub which is just off the N52 road.

The course was a mixture of long straight level sections of road with some short rolling hills which made for a challenging but an overall fair course. The race took place is warm temperatures with a strong southerly breeze in the face of runners for stretches along the route. However some beautiful mature hedgerows along the mostly rural roads provided shade and shelter from the sun for runners. This race has actually had excellent weather for its first four years with some runners saying that temperatures may have even been a bit too high for distance running.

This was the fourth year of the event it has become an annual fixture on the calendar. The running calendar today shows a marked shortage of races at the 10 mile distance and this was one of the original reasons this distance was chosen for this race. Clubs from all over the North Leinster region and beyond were represented today. Refreshments were provided outside Wallace's Pub at the Finish line. Well done to Mullingar Harriers and all the many volunteers who helped make today's race a wonderful success.

Our full set of photographs from the start and finish of this year's race is available here on Flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/albums/72157686310944525

Dalystown is very much a picture of the classic rural Irish parish and is situated about 7 miles south of Mullingar just off the N52 road to Tullamore Co. Offaly. The lands of Dalystown is situated at the south east corner of Lough Ennell which is the dominant geographical feature around this part of Co. Westmeath.

Can I use these photographs directly from Flickr on my social media account(s)?

Yes - of course you can! Flickr provides several ways to share this and other photographs in this Flickr set. You can share directly to: email, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr, LiveJournal, and Wordpress and Blogger blog sites. Your mobile, tablet, or desktop device will also offer you several different options for sharing this photo page on your social media outlets.

BUT..... Wait there a minute....

We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not charge for our photographs. Our only "cost" is that we request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, VK.com, Vine, Meetup, Tagged, Ask.fm,etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us or acknowledge us as the original photographers.

This also extends to the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?

You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - If you are using the photographs online all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. You will find the link above clearly outlined in the description text which accompanies this photograph. Taking these photographs and preparing them for online posting takes a significant effort and time. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc. If you are using the photographs in newspapers or magazines we ask that you mention where the original photograph came from.

I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Averaged distance from every vertex of the street network graph to the midpoint of every segment within 1200m. This value, depth, is compared to the direct distance producing a ratio of indirectness within the network. Compared to the previous map this prioritizes local integration and better highlights local distruptions or discontinuities.

The overall length of this proximate network is recorded by the size of the circle. Larger networks denote greater integration.

Exhibition Dates: January 15 – 28, 2021 in the Artlab Gallery and virtually

Every few years, the Artlab Gallery at Western University hosts a Faculty and Staff exhibition. These exhibitions are important opportunities for fostering a sense of community in the Visual Arts Department: students are able to see their instructors and mentors at work, and colleagues have a chance to share in each other's research. 2020 was a year like no other, and so the Artlab is leaning into the present with a collective address to this moment of separate togetherness. "Distance makes the heart grow weak" invites faculty, staff and graduate students to speak to how they've been experiencing the last year. It prompts participants to explore and express how isolation has shifted our focus, our research and art practices, as well as our forms of connecting with one another. The exhibition is also an opportunity for participating artists and researchers to show flexibility (and inherently, optimism) despite the high strangeness we’re all currently experiencing. In this time of shared solitude—unable to walk down halls, knock on studio or office doors, and enjoy quick hellos and impromptu conversations—we'll quote Chris Kraus (quoting Søren Kierkegaard): "art involves reaching through some distance."

Organized by Dickson Bou and Ruth Skinner.

Participants: Cody Barteet; Sarah Bassnett; Dickson Bou with Charlie Egleston & Peter Lebel; Matt W. Brown; Andreas Buchwaldt; Brianne Casey; Jérôme Conquy with Kevin Heslop, Sachiko Murakami, Sile Englert & Ruth Douthwright; Ioana Dragomir; Meghan Edmiston; Soheila Esfahani; Sky Glabush; Anahí González; Philip Gurrey; John Hatch; Tricia Johnson; Iraboty Kazi; Shelley Kopp; Anna Madelska; Patrick Mahon; Jennifer Martin; Linda Meloche; David Merritt; Ana Moyer; Dong-Kyoon Nam; Kim Neudorf; Katie Oates; Sasha Opeiko with Martin Stevens; Michelle Paterok; Kirsty Robertson; Geordie Shepherd; Andrew Silk; Ashley Snook; Christine Sprengler; Michelle Wilson with Bridget Koza,Sophie Wu, & Azadeh Odlins; Jessica Woodward

The promotional graphic for "Distance makes the heart grow weak" cites the short film, "Extraordinary Measures," by Sasha Opeiko and Martin Stevens, featured in the exhibition.

Given Ontario's recent stay-at-home order, the exhibition will be released in a virtual format on Friday, January 15th. Throughout the course of the exhibition, Artlab will publish short video features from participating artists and researchers.

Visit the Artlab Gallery: www.uwo.ca/visarts/artlab/

Due to COVID-19 safety measures, the Artlab Gallery and Cohen Commons will be operating virtually. In-person visits are not permitted at this time. We will be posting exhibition documentation, videos, and virtual walk-throughs on the Artlab’s website.

Broadford is just a short distance from Melbourne in Victoria, Australia and is the location for the annual Bike Bonanza run each Easter by Motorcycling Australia at the State Motorcycle Complex. Here over one thousand motorcycles are in action at the road racing circuit, moto-cross and enduro tracks, trials area, and speedway.

The feature marque this year was Moto Guzzi including the appearance of six factory racers from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. No apologies for a lot of photos of these bikes as I will probably never see or hear them again. Thanks to the Italian owners for bringing them South. The collection of Guzzis in the car park was also in the hundreds.

This is a large folder with 345 photos and probably only shows a quarter of the bikes present.

A great weekend with friendly atmosphere and the chance to see and hear some great machines.

I have tried to get all the labelling correct but if you have some more information let me know and I'll add it.

Enjoy the photos. I can provide higher resolution if needed. No cost but if you use them I would like credit given.

This is a photograph from the annual Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games 5KM and 10 Mile road races, fun runs, walks and challenges which were held in the heritage village of Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland on Saturday 28th December 2019 at 13:00. This race has grown year on year since its first running a few years ago. This year seen one of the largest overall entries in the races.

We have an extensive set of photographs from the race start and the finish on our Flickr photostream set at

Timing and Event management was provided by Irish company PopupRaces - check their website at www.popuparces.ie

The 10 mile race takes in the local 'Ardagh Mountain' which is a 1 mile continuous climb starting at the 2 mile mark of the 10 mile race. There is, of course, then the reward of a long down-hill stretch after the summit. This forested hill or mountain was once a famous centre of pre-Christian religious worship and is believed to have been the home of a pre–christian diety named Midir (the God of the Underworld), and also a Prince of the "Tuatha De Dannan", the fairy people of Ireland. The hill or mountain itself is named after Brí, the daughter of Midhir and her doomed love, Leith who are reputed to be buried on the hill. The top of the hill offers impressive views of the landscape, particularly north to Longford town and towards the south. The remainder of the race is challenging but fair, with some much smaller and less steep hills in the race profile. Miles 3 - 7 benefit from some downhill as the race route travels around the base of the hills. The roads are predominantly rural roads with little traffic. There is a gradual climb in the final mile of the race which brings runners back into Ardagh village. The 10 mile race finishes in the same finish as the 5KM race. Water stops and adequate stewarding at junctions is provided.

The 5KM race takes a loop around the heritage village of Ardagh. This allows runners, walkers and joggers of all ability to take part over a more manageable distance. Overall this is a very well organised race with accurate courses, good marshalling and traffic control and excellent after race refreshments. The 10 mile race is one of the longest road races held during the Christmas period anywhere in Ireland and has appeal to runners who want to add a longer distance race to their festive calendar of running.

The weather at this year's race was almost perfect for running. The rain managed to stay away and there was only a breeze on certain exposed parts of the course. Indeed conditions could be described as mild with temperatures of 11C. In 2014 there was very frosty icy weather and in 2015 participants were given a very very windy day with heavy rain at the finish of both races. The 2016 and 2017 event seen very suitable weather for road racing in late December in Ireland.

Ardagh is probably County Longford's most picturesque village with many historical and architecturally important features. It is located about 6 miles from Longford town. There has been settlement in the area since around the 5th century.

This is a photograph from the 4th Annual Meath Spring Half Marathon and 10KM Road Races hosted by Bohermeen AC on the 8th March 2015 at 12:00 at Bohermeen, Ardbraccan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland. A 10KM race was also held and started one hour before the half marathon. This event has grown quickly in popularity over the past few years with this year's entry of 1,168 with this being a record for both races. The half marathon had 843 entrants while the 10KM race had 325 entrants. This half marathon event is perfectly placed in the Irish running calendar as it provides runners of all levels and abilities an opportunity to test the half marathon distance in preparation for a Spring Marathon or as the first serious running goal in 2015. Bohermeen AC is steeped in Irish athletics history since 1927 and it is this experience and exceptional community spirit and volunteering which has made this event today so successful.

Want to use this photograph or share it? Please read/scroll down a little further to find out how - it's very easy!

The weather was very suitable for road racing with the exception of a strong headwind at certain parts of the course. However the cool, dry sunny conditions were suitable for fast times and PB performances from runners.

More than 50,000 students have graduated since its first class of nine students in 1885 and about 300 of today’s active-duty admirals, generals and senior executive service leaders are alumni. Since creating a program for international officers in 1956, the college has more than 4,500 international alumni from 137 countries worldwide. Approximately 10 percent of these alumni have become chief of their country’s respective navy. Today, NWC continues to deliver excellence in education, research, and outreach, informing today’s decision-makers and educating tomorrow’s leaders. (U.S. Navy photo by Kristopher Burris/Released)

10 Mile Race Start: This is a photograph from the annual Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games 5KM and 10 Mile road races, fun runs, walks and challenges which were held in the heritage village of Ardagh, Co. Longford, Ireland on Saturday 26th February 2022 at 13:00. This race has grown year on year since its first running a few years ago. This is the first time the races have been held in February due to the postponement of the traditional Christmas time fixture from January 2nd 2022.

We have an extensive set of photographs from the race start and the finish on our Flickr photostream set at

The beauty is I can go out and photograph in the air museum (now closed) without touching anything outside my house.

My concern is for humanity globally. We are eventually going to get through these strange and troubling times. Hopefully a more equal and just society more connected to the environment and land will result :-)

Guaynabo, PR- The distance between Afghanistan and Puerto Rico was dissolved thanks to the technology, when Staff Sgt. Marilyn Bernier, 475th Engineer Company, was interviewed live, via satellite, at WAPA-TV’s “Entre Nosotras” show, 7 Nov.

“The Puerto Rican soldiers who are here are all working hard and we are doing well,” said Bernier to Alba Nydia Diaz, host of the TV show.

Bernier’s family was also present at the TV studio during the live interview.

Her spouse Wilfredo Molina, their daughter Keliann Maree Molina, 9, and their son Kenneth O. Molina, 7, were all very happy and excited to see their mom on the TV monitor.

“We all are very proud of you,” said Molina to his wife.

“I love you and miss you very much. I cannot wait until you come home,” said Keliann to her mom, while containing her tears.

Talking directly to her family, Bernier highlighted the support received. “You know you have been my strength throughout this process. You keep me strong and stable. All of this is for you. I want you to know that mom is always thinking of you,” said an emotional Bernier.

“One of the most difficult things is to be away from your family. Other than that, I am doing the job I chose. Considering all the circumstances, we are doing very well”, added Bernier, while answering Diaz’ questions.

Bernier, a Guayama, Puerto Rico native, is a member of the Army Reserve since 1998 and performs duty as Horizontal Construction Supervisor at the 475th Engineer Company, US Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, currently deployed in Afghanistan.

Molina, who works as supervisor at a local Toyota Dealer in San Juan, has been taking care of the couples’ two kids for 10 months.

“My boss has helped and supported me a lot during this time. I really have to thank him publicly,” said Molina.

The TV show host also got emotional and sent a message directly to Bernier and all the soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan.

“Many blessings to you and to all your peers, especially to all the Puerto Rican soldiers. You are risking you lives, but you are making us all very proud. Many blessings to all,” said Diaz

The interview took place during the veteran’s day week, in order to highlight the new generation of US Army Reserve veterans and their families.

“Of course I am excited about coming home. I want to be with my family, kiss them and hug them. We all will be home very soon, after completing this tour,” said a proud Bernier.

Today, Saturday 24th November 2012, the Marathon Club of Ireland's well known West of Ireland (WOI) Marathon series made it's debut in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland. The first WOI marathon held in the east of Ireland was a great success. About 50 people took part in the marathon. The weather was a very cold frosty morning for running which eventually gave way to some bright November sunshine. The race started and finished from beside Acres Road/Papal Cross in the Phoenix Park. After two initial small loops totalling 1.2 miles the race then took 5 five mile loops clockwise around the Phoenix Park. This took in Chesterfield Avenue, then down towards Chapelizod, up the Military Hill, along the S-Bends, up the hill at the Upper Glen Road, and across Furze road back onto Chesterfield Avenue. A Garmin Connect GPS trace of this five mile loop is available from the links below.

As anyone who has ever raced in the Phoenix Park before this was a demanding course - and to do that loop 5 times could be described as "challenging". However everyone who took part enjoyed the event. We managed to get photographs of most of the participants from the event today! Well done to everyone who took part. The atmosphere amongst the runners involved epitomised all that is great about the marathon. Thanks to Frank McDermott, Anthony Lee, Ray O'Connor, and Pat O'Keefe for making this possible. The marathon club of Ireland organise marathons almost every two weeks all year round. They are not mass participation events. These marathons are officially measured and count as offically recognised marathons. Participants in the events are expected to support themselves with their drinks, gels, and other requirements.

How can I get a full resolution copy of these photographs?

All of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available, free, at no cost, at full resolution. There are no visible digital watermarks on the photographs from today's race event.

We take these photographs as a hobby and as a volunteered contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not know of any other photographers who operate such a policy. Our only "cost" is our request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ etc or (2) other websites, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us. This also means the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a wall post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

If you want to contribute something for these images?

We do not charge for these images. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that they are good enough that you would ordinarily pay for their purchase we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible.

My photograph isn't here on your Flickr page! What gives?

As we have stated above the taking and subsequent provision of these photographs, free-of-charge, into the public domain on Flickr is a hobby of ours. Depending on the size of the race event it might be impossible to get a photograph of every competitor in the race. Usually at smaller race events we can manage to take photographs of almost all of the competitors. So if your photograph is not in our Flickr set there could be a number of reasons for this:

* We missed you - sorry!

* We got a photograph of you but it might have been blurred and consequently we didn't upload this photograph

* You might be hidden behind another group of runners

Many races in Ireland have commercial companies providing photographic services. These companies may have managed to take your photograph.

Nothing is sharp anymore :(

Closest focus distance, which is 20cm, at f/8.

All of these were taken with Sony A7, vivid JPG, corrected for exposure in LR.

I did this because the Tamron generally tends to under-expose, you could of course choose to correct this in camera.
