For example, is a painting of a person from the perspective of a fresh water spring which is now dislocated. Other paintings reveal the sinisterly sublime gaze of the colonizer. Through emotive mark making, color, and removal of paint, I allow space for the viewer’s interpretation.
Eva St. John's installation piece is a profound exploration of humanity's complex relationship with the environment, rooted in Ecofeminist theory and gendered landscapes. Through her multidisciplinary practice which encompasses film and sculptural installations, St. John confronts the environmental and social impacts of emotional and spiritual disconnection from the land.
Her recent works aim to expose the exploitative nature of capitalist societies' extractive and colonial relationships with land, highlighting the profound damage inflicted on both landscapes and the human psyche. St. John's art serves as a catalyst for reevaluating societal attitudes towards land and fostering a deeper connection with nature and each other.
This installation invites viewers to reflect on the urgent need for ecological and cultural transformation, emphasising the importance of harmonious coexistence between humans and the natural world. St. John's work challenges us to reconsider our relationship with land and envision more sustainable futures.

After June 30, residents who fail to pay property tax run the risk of having their power and water connection disconnected with the municipal corporation deciding to act tough on 5,000-odd defaulters in the city.
“We have list of 5,000 defaulters who have not been paying up in spite of notices. We are yet to recover Rs 4 crore,” said a MC official, adding that governments offices and NRIs were also on the defaulters’ list.
The MC is already following a name and shame policy by pasting notices outside the premises of the defaulters. but this has not yet yielded results.
For now, the MC has decided that it would issue warning notice to defaulters and in case they fail to deposit property tax in a month, the list would be forwarded to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) asking for disconnection. There are 659 commercial, 293 industrial and 4,000 residential properties that are yet to pay the tax. With NRIs, the MC is unable to take up the issue as most properties lie unoccupied.
“We have decided to send the list of defaulters to PSPCL and ask them to disconnect the power connection in case the outstanding dues are not cleared by June 30,” said MC commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta.
