Rise - Eddie Vedder
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpmGOhys1wQ
Such is the way of the world
You can never know
Just where to put all your faith
And how will it grow?
Gonna rise up
Burning black holes in dark memories
Gonna rise up
Turning mistakes into gold
Such is the passage of time
Too fast to fold
Suddenly swallowed by signs
Lo and behold
Gonna rise up
Find my direction magnetically
Gonna rise up
Throw down my ace in the hole
I went out early in the morning, looking for large wildlife to photograph. In June, grizzly bear is the primary target, but I'll gladly settle for moose, elk or wolf.
It was another of those frustrating days, where you see fresh bear scat everywhere but no bears. A solitary elk crossing the road, too far in the distance for photos and a moose that was just teasing me but I knew I would have to be lucky to get a photo.
I had stopped a couple hundred meters from the moose and was down in the ditch, hoping that he would keep moving in my direction. Alas, he trotted off into the trees and although I took some photos, none was worth keeping. I just sat there thinking what a frustrating morning it had been.
Then I looked over and saw this young red squirrel on the ground, enjoying a snack. I am sure that out here, in the middle of nowhere, this squirrel had never seen a human before. I did this nonchalant thing that works with some animals, where you look the other way but leisurely creep towards them. Surprisingly, she didn't run away, even as I laid in the grass just a couple of meters away and slowly swung the camera her way.
We spent a few minutes together, so the morning wasn't wasted after all. I wonder what story the squirrel told when she went back to the trees.
This late sunset at about 8:30 p.m. bounced onto the eastern clouds surprised me and brought me joy.
No increased saturation. Only had time to take the D810 and 105mm f/2.8 prime outside to capture that light on the trees.
Many thanks for looking! Please, no advice. There are many who take skilled landscape shots. I am not one of them ;)

(...).....Gail and I stood at the dock until after sunset, sitting on a bench just in front of the boat, staring for hours, like two children who had received a much desired gift, but you would never have dreamed of having.
We were a bit 'scared and not quite sure what we had decided to do. But imagine that it was normal to feel some dismay when it faces a radical transformation of its existence, when you are leaving what Gail and I called 'protected area', that area circumscribed in their own personal universe in which reigns routine and you feel safe because everything is familiar and predictable. When you are about to crossing the borders to venture into the unknown, it's as though it were missing the ground under their feet.....(....)

Macro of an antique compass. Apt photo this for in 2018 as I’m looking for a new direction myself! I quit my job of nearly 12 years back in mid November to try and get back a respectable work / life balance and have a few opportunities lined up for the New Year.
Didn’t get the chance to participate in many MM’s last year so I’ve done a double redux of Candlelit and side lit.
HMM!
(And Happy New Year!)

14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
or walk in the way of evildoers.
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;
turn from it and go on your way.

This owl, perched with its back facing me initially, transitioned instantly and seamlessly to fly in the opposite direction. This is a routine manoeuvre for these Hawk Owls.
Enter any size garden and I’m sure if you look in “Any Direction” you’ll be amongst beautiful colors and contrasts. I will spend plenty of time in the coming weeks in my gardens weeding and trimming. The end result is worth the effort. Thanks for viewing my work. Time to wash my 🙏’s again.... Be safe and kind...
