Another month has passed and the PLPR is back to repeat its circuits of Scotland to identify any potential track defects. DRS have the contract to provide traction for these services in Scotland and on this occasion they provided RETB-fitted 37402 and 37419 (again - seemingly a favourite for these trains!)

The train is seen just north of Blackford with 1Q77 from Mossend to Inverness.

Direct Rail Services (DRS) 66422 is seen on the rear of the 6Z68 1330 Long Marston to the Mid-Norfolk Railway, with Transpennine Express 68026 'Enterprise' leading.

DRS' 88010 'Aurora' and 68004 'Rapid' pass the along the sea wall at Saltcoats with 6M23 from Hunterston to Sellafield. This service is used to move nuclear material from the Hunterston nuclear power stations to Sellafield for processing.

Hunterston in North Ayrshire is home to 2 nuclear power stations - Hunterston A and Hunterston B.

Hunterston A operated between 1964 and 1990 and is in the process of being decommissioned by NDA licensee Magnox Ltd. The decommissioning process is planned to end in 2072 at which point the buildings will be demolished and site cleared.

Hunterston B - operated by EDF Energy - is still active having started operations in 1976. The station has managed to remain operational for longer than initially expected (decommissioning was due to start in 2011), but operations will cease within the next few months with the decommissioning process planned to start no later than the 7th of January 2022.

Within the last decade Hunterston B has gained media attention after it was discovered that the number of fractures in the reactors exceeded the operational limit specified in the safety case. The reactors were shut down while investigations were carried out and a revised safety case submitted to the regulator. Each of the 2 reactors were subsequently restarted in August 2020 and September 2020 respectively.

Sitting literally at the end of the Valleyfield subdivision, 536 power is idling into the comfortable night, watching the daily parade of Toronto and Montréal-bound nighter who's rapidly rolling by the station, shaking it for a few minutes before fading into the night.

Those Searchlights will likely disappear by the end of the year, their substitute already sitting on the ground a few hundred feet at left, waiting their turns for assuming the next fifty years or so of directing train movements at this busy junction.

As one can see the trains showing up some 5 minutes before arriving at Dattenberg, we could already spot the next southbound train while taking our picture of the Regional Express.

It appeared to be a colorful one, with a rather boring locomotive in front, especially when we looked up on the internet by whom this Dispolok was rented: TXL. Couldn't they use one of our colorful Vectrons (or is this train the so called NüMü shuttle from the Netherlands to Bayern)?

Nevertheless a fine sight for which I choose to take a widener view showing also the ferry to Remagen at the docking station in Linz.

The late 1980s threw up another of BRs quirky class 50 diagrams. For a while there was a scheduled Hoover working over the Portsmouth Direct line, 1P15, the 09:25 Waterloo - Portsmouth Harbour. From there the diagram took it on as 1V12 12:03 Portsmouth Harbour - Paignton

Although loco hauled services of any description were few and far between on the Portsmouth Direct line, few photos seem to come to light of this interesting working

Excerpt from Wikipedia:

The Alhambra (The Red One) is a palace and fortress complex located in Granada, Andalusia, Spain. It was originally constructed as a small fortress in AD 889 on the remains of Roman fortifications, and then largely ignored until its ruins were renovated and rebuilt in the mid-13th century by the Nasrid emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar of the Emirate of Granada, who built its current palace and walls with many beautiful, intricate details. It was converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada. After the conclusion of the Christian Reconquista in 1492, the site became the Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella (where Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his expedition), and the palaces were partially altered in the Renaissance style. In 1526 Charles I & V commissioned a new Renaissance palace better befitting the Holy Roman Emperor in the revolutionary Mannerist style influenced by humanist philosophy in direct juxtaposition with the Nasrid Andalusian architecture, but it was ultimately never completed due to Morisco rebellions in Granada.
