Continuing my Astro Projection series...
That's from my late summer session of out-of-body-and-lens experiences during the festively sparking blue hour in our Toronto. I heated my experimental warp photo-drive and got into these sparkling dimensions on all this faster-than-light speed :-)
...all brought to you by my manual zoom / long exposure / bokeh magic :-)
*It's a SOOC image, manual zooming during long exposure - no processing involved!
Part of my Magic of Blue Hour series also.
UPDATE: Cool news - this image made it into Flickr's blog on New Year :-) Whoo-hoo! Thanks!
The Monostor Fortress - the largest modern fortress in Central Europe - was built between 1850 and 1871. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the neoclassical military monument is a fascinating sight with its huge walls of precisely hewn stone, the 3-4 metre thick earthen ramparts covering the defences and its network of underground passages (kazamata) several kilometres long.
Its monumental dimensions are evidenced by the following figures: The fortress covers 25 hectares, the total area including the firing ranges is 70 hectares, the floor area of the buildings is 25 680 m2 and the number of rooms is 640.
After the fortress was built, it served generations of soldiers of the Hungarian Defence Forces. Its tasks included the defence of the central fortress (North - Komárom) and the control of shipping on the Danube. It was never used in combat and served mainly as a training centre and weapons depot. During the First World War it was used as a conscription and training centre. During the Second World War, the 22nd Infantry Regiment had its headquarters at Fort Monostor, and the soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Infantry Regiments were stationed there. After the Second World War.
Between 1945 and 1990, the Red Army's Army Group South set up the largest ammunition depot in Central Europe in the fort. With their withdrawal, the military function of the fortress ended forever.
Today the fort is a popular destination with a military history exhibition, Cold War vehicles, a bread museum, a boat exhibition and numerous events.

I wanted to capture the harsh daily reality of the Kawah Ijen sulfur miners while elevating their work through artistic composition. I chose this moment when the light piercing through the sulfur vapors created an almost surreal atmosphere, giving the scene both documentary and artistic dimensions. The composition emphasizes the miner's silhouette and his traditional clothing, which contrasts sharply with the hostile environment. By placing the subject in the center of a yellow vapor cloud, I aimed to create an image that tells both the raw beauty of the place and the extreme conditions in which these men work. The slightly downward perspective shows the rugged terrain and the worker's solitude in the face of the elements. My intention was to create an image that raises awareness about working conditions while paying tribute to the dignity of these miners.

Will be busy printing and framing in nice large, matted formats and frames and museum glass! Five of these photos will be printed on 40" x 60" floating wall mounted metal sheets! I think I know which--will share photos of the photos hanging on the walls!
And I am mounting some on plexiglass/acryllic--front mounting them! Some I am printing on lossy fuji-crystal archival paper too, and then front mounting 40"x60" versions to plexiglass--will send photos!
The secret to HDR photography is that you want people to say, "Woe dude--that's unreal!" And not, "Dude--that's not real!" "Unreal" is the word they use when they're trying to figure out the photo--what makes it cool--is it a photo? Is it painted? How'd it come to be--how'd you bend the light that way? "That's not real," is what they say if you have the saturation/HDR/ etc. turned up too high. :)
Some (almost) final edits for my Los Angeles Gallery Show! Printing them on metallic paper at 13" x 19" and mounting and framing them on a 4mm 18x24 white mat and 2" dark wood frame. Also printing some 40" x 70" which is over three feet by five feet! Wish you all could come (and hang out with the goddesses)!
Let me know your favs.!

Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest.

All art is but imitation of nature.-- Seneca (Letters from a Stoic - Letter LXV: On the First Cause)
The universe itself is God and the universal outpouring of its soul. --Chrysippus (Quoted by Cicero in De Natura Deorum)
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells. --To Autumn. by John Keats
Taddeo Gaddi (c. 1300 - 1366) Stories of Christ and St. Francis of Assisi (Panels of the cupboard in the sacristy of Santa Croce) (1340 - Tempera on panel
dimensions: 41 x 31 cm- Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence
The panels surely decorated a wooden piece of furniture in the sacristy of Santa Croce in Florence, perhaps a cupboard for relics. The earliest mention of the cabinet dates back to the 16th century (Anonimo Magliabechiano and Vasari), and then in other later sources until 1810, when, with the Napoleonic suppression of the Franciscan convent, the doors were transferred to the storerooms of the Convent of San Marco. From there, in 1814, they arrived by then dismembered at the Accademia Gallery, where they were displayed in separate rooms. According to documents of the time, the dismemberment took place precisely at St. Mark's between 1812 and 1813, when the "prospere," or wooden stalls, were removed. The present gilded wooden frames also date from that time.
Four paintings, placed on the antiquarian market, are now in Germany, at the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin (Pentecost and Resurrection of the Child) and the Alte Pinakothek in Munich (Trial by Fire, Death of the Knight of Celano).
The stories are composed as follows:
Stories of Christ
Visitation
Nativity of Christ
Adoration of the Magi
Presentation of Jesus in the Temple
Dispute of Jesus with the Doctors of the Temple
Baptism of Christ
Transfiguration
Last Supper
Crucifixion of Christ with Our Lady and St. John the Evangelist
Resurrection of Christ
Appearance of the risen Christ to the pious women
Incredulity of St. Thomas
Pentecost (in the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin)

All was peaceful across the fields of Spherus Magna until a strange craft descended from the sky, absconding with an oblivious bovine as a poor farmer looked on. This started a regular Hatfield and McCoy affair—pitting Bionicles against a civilization of System creatures—and igniting a terrible war.

Title: Giants
Artist: OSGEMEOS (Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, b. 1974, Brazil)
Medium: Mural on six concrete silos
Dimensions (H x W): Each silo measures 21.3 x 11 m (70 x 35 feet). The total area of the six silos is 2,183 sq m (23,500 sq ft).
Weight: Not applicable.
Location: Vancouver, Ocean Concrete worksite on Granville Island
“Every city needs art and art has to be in the middle of the people” – OSGEMEOS
Artist Statement:
“The first challenge of this project was to find a location that would fit with our idea. We did not want a conventional two-dimensional wall that we had done before: we wanted something different, special and unique. We have an ongoing project called Giants that has been realized in several places in the world such as Greece, USA, Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Brazil and England, and we will continue now in Canada, but with a difference. As the proposed Biennale has a strong connection with sculpture, we decided to find a place where the painting can be transformed, creating a dialogue between the two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds. Another aim of this project is to bring new characters to Vancouver while sharing perspectives and cultures and establishing a relationship between the people who frequent this site and integrate this work into the city scenery. The connection between water and land on Granville Island, on the False Creek margins, also had a lot to do with the choice of location. For us, the water acts as a vein, symbolizing life, and it is very present in our work.”- OSGEMEOS.
The Vancouver Biennale has transformed a Granville Island industrial landmark into a gigantic work of public art. OSGEMEOS created Giants, a 360-degree, 21.3-metre- (70-foot-) tall mural, the biggest public mural of their career and their public artwork debut in Canada. The mural, which measures a colourful 2,183 square meters (23,500 square feet), was created on the six gigantic silos that are part of the Ocean Cement manufacturing and distribution plant on Vancouver’s Granville Island, alongside the world-famous Public Market, Emily Carr University, and boat docks that attract 10.5 million visitors per year.
This artwork has inspired the artwork Biennale Snapshots – A Composition In 5 Movements by Vivian Fung.
