A Mirror Image (in a plane mirror) is a reflected duplication of an object that appears almost identical, but is reversed in the direction perpendicular to the mirror surface. As an optical effect it results from reflection off from substances such as a mirror or water. It is also a concept in geometry and can be used as a conceptualization process for 3-D structures. Two-dimensional mirror images can be seen in the reflections of mirrors or other reflecting surfaces, or on a printed surface seen inside-out.
If we first look at an object that is effectively two-dimensional (such as the writing on a card) and then turn the card to face a mirror, the object turns through an angle of 180° and we see a left-right reversal in the mirror. In this example, it is the change in orientation rather than the mirror itself that causes the observed reversal. Another example is when we stand with our backs to the mirror and face an object that's in front of the mirror. Then we compare the object with its reflection by turning ourselves 180°, towards the mirror. Again we perceive a left-right reversal due to a change in our orientation. So, in these examples the mirror does not actually cause the observed reversals.
Trinity Bridge (Troitskiy Most) is a bascule bridge across the Neva in Saint Petersburg. It connects Kamennoostrovsky Prospect with Suvorov Square. It was the third permanent bridge across the Neva, built between 1897 and 1903 by the French firm Société de Construction des Batignolles. It is 582 meters (1,909 ft) long and 23.6 meters (77 ft) wide. The bridge takes its name from the Old Trinity Cathedral which used to stand at its northern end. In the 20th century, it was known as Equality Bridge (1918–1934) and Kirovsky Bridge (1934–1999).
In 1803, the Voskresensky ponton bridge, which was built in 1786 near Voskresensky Prospect (now Chernyshevsky Prospect), was moved to the Summer Garden. In 1825, the pontoon Suvorovsky Bridge was built to link Suvorov Square with Troitskaya (Trinity) Square. In 1892, a contest for constructing a permanent Troitsky Bridge was announced. There were 16 entrants from local and European engineers, including one from the French engineer Gustave Eiffel, the creator of the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris. The winner was the out-of-competition conception by Paul-Joseph Bodin aided by Arthur Flachet, Vincent Chabrol, and Claude Patouillard from the French Société de Construction des Batignolles. Some contributions to their proposal were provided by a team of local engineers. A special commission from the Imperial Academy of Arts, including Leon Benois also participated in the project. Construction began on 12 August 1897. Félix Faure, the president of France was present at the ceremony. In the same political spirit, Nicholas II laid the foundation stone for the Pont Alexandre III in Paris, another memorial to the Franco-Russian Alliance. The bridge was completed in 1903, in time for the 200-year anniversary of Saint Petersburg.
Originally the bridge had nine spans. Five of these were permanent metallic riveted spans, with novel console-arch-beam systems and gradually increasing span length from banks to the middle of the river. A three-arch granite viaduct linked the metallic central section to the right bank, and a two-winged bascule span joined it to the left bank. The design of the central spans, in which single uncut girders bridge more than one span, significantly relieves the stress on the central part of the arches, decreasing the support required in the river and giving the span structures a gentle arch shape. The bridge is decorated with cast iron gratings with artistic casting, granite pylons with lanterns and metallic three-colour lanterns in the Art Nouveau style. The obelisks flanking the entrance to the bridge from Suvorov Square were remodeled in 1955. In 1965–1967 the bascule span was rebuilt as a one-winged, lifting design. Its length was extended to 43 meters (141 ft) and its appearance modelled on the other metal spans. A granite arch slope was set on the left bank. During the reconstruction water slopes were enlarged and granite benches were set along left bank abutment.
I asked Nicole to touch the surface of the water while underwater. I had this shot in my head. It's like being in a different dimension but in the same place and time.

Today's story and sketch "by me", the first thing you will see is myself flying above in one of Rescue Randy's dimension jumping biplanes. Early this morning an urgent message came into the Man Caves intergalactic urgent need help message fax machine, a group of visiting Tropicinian VIP''s from the Planet Phatondi had run out of gasoline in a rented 1959 Plymouth Fury in nearby Carlsbad. Since JB and and his buddy Rescue Randy, the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Cosmos, were called to help save the Planet Ospudimus's failing potato crop, the potatoes used to make Ospudimus Moon Pies, a food staple in that part of the Galaxy. Randy has first hand knowledge of the Potato fungus known as Phytophthora infestans, a common Potato fungus, like the famous one that was responsible for the Irish Potato Famine in the 1840's on Earth. Randy discovered a cure for the fungus by accident after he accidentally crash landed an experimental Flying Saucer after it experienced a power failure, and crashed at twelve hundred miles per hour into a potato field on the planet Kenabec. Randy was badly injured but luckily had packed a crash test dummy emergency repair kit, he used the living tissue putty and medium tan skin tape to patch himself up. Stranded on Kenabec by the second month ran out of moon pies. While Randy was foraging in the Potato patch he noticed some of the plants had a fungus. Randy's mind was upgraded during one of his visits for repairs at "UCSB", which gave him the most usable knowledge of the universe, Which was how he developed a copper spray fungicide using the crashed saucers copper wiring ground into powder and mixed with saucer cleaning solvent. Randy and JB saved the Ospudimus potato crops, I filled the Fury with fuel the Tropicinians are continuing their cruise along the Pacific Coast, until next time taa ta the Rod Blog.

Today's story and sketch "by me" started as one of the most mellow for quite some time, until I heard JB landing his "AEISC" Alternative Energy Interdimensional Super Chopper at the back door to the Man Cave. The propulsion of the "AEISC" is not even known or understood by JB, or even Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Cosmos, who did the extensive testing for the Super Choppers builders on the Dark Side of the Moon. Randy only thinks it may be a fuel derivative of "HCSFO", Hydrogenated Colonel Sanders Fryer Oil, because of the awesome smell after a long flight through a hot worm hole. The fuel is delivered weekly to the Man Cave in hermetically sealed tamper proof canisters, which Rescue Randy discovered just how tamper proof they were while drilling into one with a "DDL" Diamond Drive Laser weapon, which caused an explosion nearly destroying the Man Cave's things that may be dangerous testing laboratory, which will have to be a story for another time, Randy is still at Scripps La Jolla's secret living tissue crash test dummy putty reconstruction institute. Randy called yesterday and is feeling better and says he may have fallen in love with a very nice, Dr. Swirly who applied his two thousand mile an hour flesh tape after the putty was packed. After a few minutes of idle chit chat about Randy's doctor friend, and how peaceful things were in the Galaxy, JB asked if I wanted to check on the progress of elves dismantling the dimension five Christmas Holiday Festival Of Lights Park. And after cruise to the "FTSATEOTG" Fish taco stand at the end of the Galaxy for lunch, he had reservations, of course I said yes, without reservations it could take up to 36 hours to be served. Above you see us on a quick fly by in Dimension Five on our way to lunch, until next time taa ta the Rod Blog.

Today's story and sketch" by me started pretty hectic, two emergency alarms going off first thing, I was enjoying my granola moon pie and coffee when I heard the first alarm, it was on the interstellar notification system from the Planet Peekapoo's Fire and Rescue department's officer of the day, to inform me or any EMT units near Peekapoo's North Pole, to please give Assistance to Rescue Randy, who just called for help after crashing another nuclear powered dimension jumping Layzman's Stratolounger. Randy explained to the Peekaboo Dispatcher he was mostly ok, a bit shaken and had some pretty severe injuries, and he was very cold, his seven hundred mile an hour crash augured the Stratolounger into the polar ice, he believed about one hundred feet deep, and was doing his best to crawl out of the slippery ice to signal the Rescue Team. And could they please bring some hot cocoa, with the little marshmallows on top. When I heard that I was confident Rescue Randy the most interesting living tissue crash test dummy in the Cosmos was going to be fine. The second alarm was on the "MCPPOTG" Man Cave Posse Protectors Of The Galaxy" systems, "MWHA" malfunctioning worm hole alert, seems some unscrupulous worm hole hackers diverted the worm hole seven Martian Senior Citizens Center exit, to the Playa Beautimus Retirement Resort's exit on Earth. I asked JB to travel to the resort and help any of the confused seniors with directions back to Mars, and as you can see two very confused tourists in Dimension Lounges exiting the "PBR" ZXII Stargate, just as JB is arriving on scene, until next time taa ta the Rod Blog.

Patches of white salt still in the shadow of the Black Mountains give way to a portal to the Panamint Mountains which have become spectacularly bathed in warm light of a newly risen Sun. The surface of this rare water in Badwater Basin, the lowest place in North America, starts as a perfect mirror and then transitions to a slightly distorted view from gentle wind disturbance on the surface. From far away the ripples are not visible, only their effect can be seen. It looks to me as if there is a window or portal to another dimension here, as if you could walk across the salt and then fall in across the event horizon into this upside down world that plays tricks not he mind.
