An Ilford HP5+ exposed for 800 ISO film with my Zorki 1 type D (year 1955), Lyon, France, February 5, 2023.
The Zorki camera was loaded with a 36-exposure Ilford HP5+ film, with its leader trimmed for old Leica's. During operations the Industar-22 lens was equipped with a 36mm push-on 1A filter and a generic metal cylindric shade hood.
Expositions were determined for 800 ISO using a Minolta Autometer III with a 10° finder for selective measurements privileging the shadow areas.
Typically the shutter exposure time was 1/200s with diaphragm of F/5.6 to f/11 for a quite cloudy weather.
Place Saint-Jean, February 5, 2023
69005 Lyon
France
After exposure, the film was processed using Adox Adonal (= Agfa Rodinal) developer at dilution 1+25, 20°C for 8 min according to development data for pushing the HP5+ film to 800 ISO. The film was then digitalized using a Sony A7 body adapted to a Minolta Auto Bellows III and a Minolta Slide Duplicator using a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5 at a reproduction ratio of 1:1. The reproduced RAW files obtained were processed in LR prior the the final JPEG editions.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg.
About the camera and the lens:
This camera is a practically mint sample of Zorki 1 arrived to me in Lyon, France, January 10, 2023.
The camera looked exiting from the KMZ factory in USSR almost 70 years later spent in a time capsule ... with almost no traces of use. According to a custom receipt of July 28, 1955, signed in Vienna, Austria, the camera body and lens are the original matched ones. As for the original FED, FED-Zorki and Zorki's ("ФЭД", "ФЭД-Зоркий", „Зоркий“), the Zorki 1 was a straight legal copy of the Oskar Barnack Leica II after the cancelation of German camera patents following the end of WWII.
This Zorki 1 is a type D model PM1115 (year 1955 according sovietcams.com/index7584.html). Type D Zorki's were produced from 1953 to 1955 in about 250.000 units with serial numbers ranging from #470.000 to (in 1955) #55 45.000. The original lens of this Zorki units is an collapsible lens Industar-22 1:3.5 f=5cm.
In the rear pocket of the ever-ready leather bag was still deposited the Austrian custom receipt from 1955 and a film label of Agfa negative-color CN17 likely from the 60's.
Art noveau (Jugendstil) station Josefstädter Straße.
Made with my old analogue camera, a Voigtländer Vito CL with Lanthar 2.8/50 from 1963.
I'm not happy with the quality. Seems there is some kind of noise and I don't know wether it comes from the camera or (hopefully) from the digitalisation process. :-(

German Chancellor Angela Merkel debated the future of Europe with MEPs and the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, on Tuesday.
“Tolerance is the soul of Europe and an essential basic value of the European idea”, Mrs Merkel said. This soul has been strained in recent years however, by many different challenges such as public debt, terrorism, wars being waged close to our continent, migration, digitalisation or climate change.
All of these can only be tackled successfully if Europe acts united and if we “treat the interests and needs of others as our own. Solidarity is based on tolerance and this is Europe’s strength. It is part of our common European DNA and it means overcoming national egoisms”.

Svein Warberg, in the Section for Digitalisation and Conservation, shows us his favorite photo.
"The picture was taken by photographer Ragge Strand for Billedbladet NÅ 4 May 1957 at a motor show in Oslo, and shows the first year of manufacture of the Volvo Amazon. The car was just brought to Norway by Isberg car dealership, and this is the first Volvo Amazon was shown for a Norwegian audience.
The motor show was the first in Norway after the war where the public could see the latest models. Because of import restrictions in the postwar period, the sale of cars was quota regulated until 1960, and you had to have good reasons to get permission to buy a new car. A somewhat restraining undercurrent at this show must thus have been "you can look, but you can’t drive."
By an agreement with the Norwegian authorities in 1956, Volvo got a larger quota in the Norwegian market for new cars than other Western European manufacturers. Volvo's need for subcontractors led to economic growth and employment in Norway. No less than 40-50 small and large industrial enterprises, with Kongsberg arms factory and Raufoss Ammunition Factories in the lead, were manufacturers and suppliers of parts for Volvo, first and foremost to the new Amazon. Volvo Amazon is also designed by a Norwegian, Jan Wilsgaard. Without a car manufacturing industry of our own, Amazon must be the closest you can get a "Norwegian" car. So it is no coincidence that it still has a good hold of the Norwegian national character.
Amazon, which was in production until 1970, was in the 60's Volvo's flagship and contributed to the entrance of Volvo on the global market, particularly the U.S.
The picture is in black and white, but according to reliable sources the car was cherry red with beige roof."

For Badam-Ochir and his wife Bolortuya, who make a living from herding goat and sheep in eastern Mongolia, knowing the weather forecast is a matter of survival. In the winter, the temperatures here can drop to minus 40 degrees – an extreme climate for which one needs to plan ahead, for their own family but also for their herd, which often roams far away in the steppe, and which they therefore need to bring back close when the weather threatens. Thanks to a disaster preparedness project funded by the EU, they now have the necessary information at their fingertips via an SMS service which provides them with a bi-weekly localised weather forecast, as well as information on snow depth and pasture degradation, helping them better manage their herd. “We are nomads, we change locations at least four times a year, explains Badam-Ochir. This service is extremely useful as it is accessible anywhere, anytime. We take real time decisions thanks to this”. Overall, the project will reach 6700 herders in Mongolia.

Until recently, the climatic phenomenon known as dzud – characterised by a very harsh winter and other conditions which limit access to forage for animals in the Mongolian steppe - occurred once or twice in a decade. Today, climatic changes and human induced environmental degradation have intensified the frequency and intensity of the dzud, which results in the death of millions of livestock – from starvation. As part of a disaster preparedness project aimed at building up the resilience of Mongolian herders, the EU’s partner People in Need (PIN) has created an SMS service in order for them to access the weather forecast and data on pasture degradation, thereby providing them with a crucial tool to take precautionary measures and better manage their herds in case of dzud. The project also supports local authorities in remote districts in the development of disaster management plans.

Society and the economy are under constant pressure to change due to the technological transformation and the progressing digitalisation. As a result of the rapid development, legal framework conditions have become obsolete, values such as trust are undermined and public and private sphere must be redefined.
