I barely have time to think right now, but I managed this at lunch

I literally had no idea what to draw so I took it out on John. #ocabuse

I was seriously thinking of redoing the first comic I ever drew today. I might look at the old stuff and see what it looks like.... I don't draw anywhere near the same anymore so it might be fun to do a few things over.

Also, this is Alex. I doubt anyone remembers him XD

black and white only!! This was one of those things where I just started drawing and it worked out. Smol but nice.

I have no idea. I feel like that's a theme with my art now. Which is unfortunate for John....

really fast one I did today after everything else i tried failed

Fyi don't give him your food...he'll never leave you alone again.

Also I had time to do some art.

I'm calling it concept art, as I may do something with it someday....

I may have mentioned that John is usually broke...so that coffee cost him every cent he had. He thinks it's worth it.

Today I needed something easy and colorful. So there you go.

Everything is kind of pissing me off today, so here is John pouting XD

Also I did this faster than usual since I messed around and waited until the last second....

A Wide Angle View of Snowy Landscape, Teton Mountains and Skies with Clouds. I captured this image with my Nikon D800E a few winters ago while visiting a friend one February weekend. It's in Grand Teton National Park just down the road from Moran along U.S. Route 26. It's what amounted to a roadside pulloff with an open field and a view beyond to the famous Teton mountain peaks. I intended the image to be wide angle, wanting to capture the big open expanse that I saw that day. I wasn't as aware of how that tended to flatten out mountains and such though, but I have learned to address by angling a camera slightly downward. The image I posted is here on Flickr (www.flickr.com/photos/14723335@N05/25744259050).

For the digital sketch itself, I'd finally received my new iPad Pro 12.9"...all I can say is that it is beautiful to touch and work with, especially using it with the Apple Pencil. The pencil feels right in the hand and allows for sideward pressure as if holding a real one. That allowed me to sketch out relief across this wintry landscape and even sketch out the wisps of clouds seen in the skies that afternoon. In general, I followed the same techniques for this sketch that I've learned from painting in using contrasts of hues and tones to bring out detail. With this being a sketch in black & white, I focused on tonal contrasts and pressure sensitivity of the Apple Pencil to bring out that. One thing I did note was the "feel" of grit across the digital sketch and canvas. There were times I even felt the need to want to clean my palms after a time like I'd had to do with pencil and a sketch book a few years ago. Oh, one last thing...and something learned from a painter friend. If the original image or thought you had shows something small or you want to change it, go ahead and change it. It's a painting, not a xerox copy of life! So I made the mountain peaks off in the distance a little bit bigger, but not big enough to take away from the wisps of clouds above.

In the left foreground of the sketch, you'll find that stick figure image of me "hiking" with my Cubbies hat, loving my time exploring Grand Teton National Park...a beautiful wintry wonderland!

I'm beginning to think John has real problems.

Today's drawing brought to you by the same brushes as yesterday's! It was done very fast. That is all.

TRUE STORY

I was not feeling it today...I literally had nothing in mind at all to draw and didn't really want to and almost said screw it....but didn't. So I feel like I accomplished something.

Digital gouache and sketch work - amusing myself on a hot afternoon.

Boring portrait...but I wanted to scribble and color.

The downfall of John (also Alex actually). I like this better flipped, but can't flip it. Because He's not symmetrical.

Sneaking in under the wire for whatever this is. It looks very misty where he is.

Something scary must be back there D:

More halftone brushes. This may be the first time his hair is affected by gravity.

I need to draw profiles more. Profiles are hard....

fast John doodle from today

good god does flickr suck for anyone else, or is it just me? I mean, it's really terrible, and I have to shut it down and restart it all the time just to get it to do anything at all. They're not making this whole "paying for space" thing attractive. I'd at least like a site that works if I have to pay for it.

Due to how I tend to portray him in drawings and doll, sometimes I forget John used to be a murder...and is pretty scary when he wants to be. Especially since magic.

Plus scary John is fun to draw too. Less colorful tho.

Oh my god today has been terrible.

Anyway, I sort of lost interest in what I was going to do with this, so I tossed some color on it, moved things around and cropped, and now it's done.

I am also done. i hate today.

Not what i had planned for today, but I lack time and motivation XD

Plus I thought of this and wanted to do it before I forgot...

Now back to being unmotivated...

Ugh. You know how you draw a bunch of things and none of them turn out? That was me today.

BUT then I managed this, and I really like it, so I guess it's a good thing. I don't do many dynamic poses, because they're hard, and I don't have time to figure them out, but this worked out easy. I'm kind of surprised!

well, I had issues with the hands, and had to kind of contort to get picture of mine so I could get them right. But other than that, easy.

Of course after the contorting, and lots of erasing, I got them to where i thought they didn't suck, and then covered them up with magic. Because John.

Tayasui Sketches Pro 2 - iPad Air 2

Painted on an iPhone/iPad with SketchBook, PhotoFx, Camera.

Just so there's no confusion about workflow, I made a rough sketch with an analog pen (I'm digging the Prismacolor Premier currently), took a photo of it with my iPhone and tinted it in PhotoFX, then used Mover+ to send it to the iPad to start refining the drawing in Sketchbook pro. I know it sounds a bit backwards, but I'm trying to make my digital drawings retain that analog feeling.

I don't know why all my stupid characters have to live in cities. I hate drawing them. I'd rather draw trees and stuff. But I don't want to live in the nature...so maybe I don't want to torture them by making them live out there...who knows.

I'm going to be reusing this, possibly tomorrow, just fyi :B

Also, I opened up a Society6 store...mostly because I wanted a new phone case. But I might be putting more stuff up in the future if anyone is interested....or has opinions of what they might like.

Composite. A bringing together of five original Mandelbulb 3D images using Photoshop layers that have been warped, filtered, faded, coloured, and scaled, to satisfy my own compositional needs. Although this is no more than a digital doodle (and that others have produced some stunningly convincing stills and animated sequences using this amazing programme,) I hope that it adds to the pot without being 'tacky' or superficial.

My reused line art! Which is why it got done faster than usual! Though I did have to redraw a good part of it. And I had no idea how I wanted to do that bg.

Crow works for the governing body of magic-users, though they don't pay him with money (which sucks for him. He's broke). His payment is not getting tossed in prison for being a warlock...so he's essentially being blackmailed with his freedom.

(My ARRRRT)

Yesterday's drawing that i didn't finish until today. I consider this my first fail! Oh well, I did something.

My first plein-air / ipad / "sketchbook x" (drawing app) / stylus / urban sketch out in the streets of the city. No photograph was used.

It was a very warm night for winter so I thought I'd take advantage and try this out. Instead of black lines I tried to work straight with colour and fills - like a painting. I left it late and the sun was setting fast so it was actually much darker than this when I finished - the street lights had come on.

I cleaned it up a wee bit at home.

maybe someday I'll figure out what is actually going on here....

My sister adopted a dog from a shelter today. They haven't quite settled on a name yet, but for now we're calling her Lady. She seems to be getting along with my nephews pretty well so far.
