The Canadian Pacific (CP) steam locomotive No. 3651 is well known in Lethbridge, Alberta. It is also very popular with tourists and railroad enthusiasts.

This photograph, which dates back to the summer of 1976, shows the steam locomotive when it was on display at the Galt Gardens Park in downtown Lethbridge.

The locomotive is presently on display at the Lethbridge Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Station, a historical site, near the Park Place Mall. The new display uses more elaborate fencing. The address of the current location is:

801 - 1 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J, Canada

Websites dedicated to locomotives describe the No. 3651 as having been built in 1910 by the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW), a company previously known as the "Locomotive and Machine Company of Montreal Limited". Historical entries for the No. 3651 locomotive can also make reference to it as a "CP Rail" locomotive:

CP Rail (Canadian Pacific Limited) MLW 2-8-0 Steam Locomotive No. 3651.

The number 2-8-0 is used to describe its drive configuration. Locomotives in the 2-8-0 class are also known as "Consolidation".

The University of Lethbridge Digitized Collection has a color image of the locomotive in the same location at the Galt Gardens Park, but at a later date (1980). The heading of that image reads:

Canadian Pacific Engine 3651 - North Elevation

(digitallibrary.uleth.ca/cdm/singleitem/collection/citypho...).

CPR No. 3651 is one of only four surviving ex-CPR Consolidations and the only one in the Province of Alberta.

A photograph dating back to the time when the locomotive was operational can be found in "Old Time Trains" at:

www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/photos/cpr_steam/N2.htm

The website of Weston Langford, "Railway Photography: Documenting railways and related infrastructure since 1960" includes three photographs of No. 3651 at the Galt Gardens Park. The entries are:
