RECOLECCIÓN

 

Para usos medicinales se recolectan preferentemente las raíces y hojas, aunque las flores también son consideradas útiles en aplicaciones calmantes. Las raíces se recogen a principios de la primavera, se lavan muy bien y se dejan secar directamente al sol. Las hojas se ponen a secar a la sombra, en lugar bien aireado. Todas las partes se almacenan en frascos cerrados y alejados de la humedad.

 

APLICACIONES Y PROPIEDADES

 

La primavera es una planta muy moderna en lo que a usos medicinales se refiere, hasta el siglo XVI era absolutamente desconocida. Actualmente se le reconocen propiedades béquicas y pectorales, eficaces en las afecciones de las vías respiratorias; es un sedante adecuado para la tos. Tiene propiedades diuréticas y es un laxante suave. Es útil en tratamiento de cefaleas y dolores de origen traumático. Contiene un 4% de vitamina C, siendo por tanto un ideal antiescorbútico.

A una taza de agua hirviendo añadir dos cucharaditas de flores sin cáliz. Dejar reposar unos 15 minutos. Endulzar con miel y tomar una o dos tazas al día.

Photographed on the last day of school, Thursday, June 11, during Field Day games. We were surrounded by the Green Mountains and the mountains of Canada and by these fields of white mustard. I have also seen it called yellow mustard. I have seen the scientific name spelled Brassica herta.

 

According to the Nature Conservancy's invasive.org, this plant is not invasive in either Vermont or New Hampshire. It has medicinal qualities. From www.herbalremedies.com/mustard-information.html:

Mustard seeds stimulate circulation. A white or yellow Mustard seed plaster can be used to eliminate chest congestion. It warms the skin and opens the lungs to open the airways.
