Using a cheap coffee filter to make a flash diffuser.
With all the DIY projects, I came upon this idea. Its probably been done before.
Notice the cool bling (cheap plastic bead bracelet) used to hold the coffee filter in place.
I know the shot is not white balanced but I just liked the idea of a coffee filter flash diffuser and wanted to post right away.
I bought 2 photek 60" softlighter IIs for this shoot. When it comes to lighting a big group of people I doubt that my puny little 43" westcott will do the job.
Amazingly, all the light stands, boom arms, and umbrellas fit inside my Calumet carrying duffle bag for checked luggage.

Whoa! Without diffusers you'll clearly see how your strobes affect the lit area (position of the strobes). You can also see that the D51 has a brighter discharge compared to the DS125 (I just learnt that as well from wetpixel.com last week).
About 1 metre from the poolside and strobes positioned back and outwards.

A simple flash diffuser i made for my FZ50. Made a big difference when taking flash portraits and also flash macros.

These are found in some wave machines, particularly at Letchworth and Great Yarmouth. These Steel chimneys serve from the compressor to the diffuser at the top.

I wanted a diffuser for my flash, and I was feeling crafty. So, I built one. It's made of cardboard, nice white paper, gaffers tape, duct tape and glue, and it took me about 3 hours to design and build.
What you'll need (or, at least, what I used). Some cardboard, x-acto, self-healing mat, pencil. (Not pictured: nice white paper, straight-edge, glue, sharpie.)
Had some old slides scanned recently and have been doing some basic stuff (contrast masking, curves) in Photoshop with them today. Photographed at Imperial Beach, CA.
