I wanted a diffuser for my flash, and I was feeling crafty. So, I built one. It's made of cardboard, nice white paper, gaffers tape, duct tape and glue, and it took me about 3 hours to design and build.
I cut apart the prototype and traced it onto the cardboard. I did a terrible job. You don't want the pieces as close together as I made them, and you'll want to plan it out a little.
My daughteres family is standing in the shadow of the diffuser screen. And a flash was fired. Unfortunaltely a bit of dirt on the lens (upper part) is causing a shadow in the sky.
Annother big problem; I wanted to use a flash for fill in purposes. Don't ever do this unless ther's a lot of light. Because the shutterspeed will be too low at ISO 100. I ended up shoting at 1/100 secs - using no tripod for the camera. So most of my shots turned out to be unsharp. Next time I use my sun diffuser - I'leave the flash in my bag and shoot at 1/250 and perhaps use a tripod too.

Forgot my tripod plate, so this was handheld against the tripod for 13 seconds.
Cheated in photoshop with the skew command, to take out some pyramid distortion. Some day when I have more money than sense, I'll buy a tilt-shift.

The big pile beside Mr. diffuse was pushed there tonight by the loader which does a great job of removing the waist deep ridge of snow that the grader leaves across the entrance to the driveway.
Prince George, British Columbia, January 6, 2009.
I built a flash diffuser out of two 24 ounce styro cups, lined with foil on one side to reflect the light outward.
I mounted them enwise onto a Vivitar 283 flash unit with a flash trigger sensor on it, and mounted a small Vivitar flash on camera facing straight up to trigger the remote unit without affecting the exposure.
These shots were taken in bright sunlight at f/11-f/16 @ 1/160sec.
