Sharing a belay with another group, Red Ledge, Ptarmigan Traverse, North Cascades, Washington State (2012, photograph by Matt Paul)

An early start put us in a position to cross the Red Ledge on the first day, four of us making a pleasant camp at Art’s Knoll. The Red Ledge looks imposing from a distance but is one of the lesser obstacles along the way. Part way across the rock band we met one group of five from Colorado retreating from the traverse, they said something about crampon issues, but it felt like something more than that might be going on. The traverse keeps throwing moderate difficulties your way (at least to armchair mountaineers like us) that have a tendency to build into something that can feel at times almost overwhelming when others are in your care. The question to turn back while you can or go deeper in is a big part of what adventuring is all about.

If you have difficulty pronouncing the name just remember that Howth rhymes with both.

If you like eating out and if you like seafood then Howth is the place to go. Personally I would recommend Aqua. If you are not interested in the many restaurants and pubs the place still has a lot to offer as it is a popular area for birdwatching and sailing. It is also popular with anglers. Howth is also a popular destination for cyclists and hillwalkers, particularly on weekends.

There are plenty of sea mammals, such as seals in the harbour.

I must admit that I was a bit surprised so see a notice which read as follows: "A person shall not feed a seal from the quayside or from any other place in this port. A person who contravenes this Bye-Law is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine nor exceeding Euro 5,000". Today there were many people feeding the seals and I checked a number of tourist guides (in Easons) and many of them suggest "feeding the seals" in Howth as a recommended activity.

The most famous visitor to Howth may have been King George IV of England, who visited Ireland in 1821 and is chiefly remembered because he staggered off the boat in a highly inebriated state. He did manage to leave his footprints at the point where he stepped ashore on the West Pier.

lima was another place on my trip where i had difficulty leaving, not beacuse i liked it so much but just because i was stuck in an unmotivated rut - one of the less favourable ruts you can get stuck in. i remember that i was pleased to break this one morning and made it my mission to buy a bus ticket out of town. you could buy these at the hostel, but they were overpriced so i went about searching for one myself. i found a few companies close by who didn't go to my chosen destination, and they suggested some agencies downtown near the national stadium. for some reason i thought that it would be as simple as getting the metropolitano to the stadium and waltzing into a travel office. over two hours of aimless walking later the cold that i thought i'd shaken off had returned, my feet were sore and i was still lacking my ticket out of town. there was little that caught my eye on this long walk, with the exception of this roundabout. it was surrounded by grand, blue buildings and i immediately thought it would work well as a little planet. however i was tired and ill, and it was cold and dark, so it wasn't the right time to take pictures. i made a mental note to return here on my planned stop back through lima, and this is proof that i kept my promise. whilst processing it i was reminded why i never used to create print quality versions of my photos. the original photoshop file was pushing 2gb and it was painfully slow to make any changes. and there was a lot of processing to do - particularly on the buses and taxis. i perservered and despite it's imperfections it's now my favourite little planet, so i think it was worth the effort.

Eaglehawk Neck.

The dramatic coastline here shows the difficulties mariners faced reaching Hobart in the 19th century. There are caves and blow holes along the coast. The narrow isthmus which separates the Tasman Peninsula from the mainland shows why Port Arthur was such an easily defended prison site. The tessellated (tiled) pavement is unique in Australia. The flat sandstone here has fractured into rectangular tiles, which have then been eroded by water and waves. The fractures dry out at low tide allowing salt crystals to form which speeds up the erosion of the pan or tile surfaces, leaving the original fractures higher.

Park Avenue Trail

Length: 2 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy.

Description: The Park Avenue Trail is one of the first major attractions within Arches National Park. It is a one-mile trail that follows the bottom of a canyon at the feet of some of the park’s gigantic, and well-known monoliths.

The Three Gossips, the Courthouse Towers, Queen Nefertiti and Queen Victoria Rock, the Organ, and the Tower of Babel are all visible from the road as visitors drive up towards Balanced Rock and Delicate Arch, but there is a large difference in experience when actually hiking through them. All of these natural wonders are famous and oft-photographed.

Park Avenue Trailhead

The lower trailhead is located on the Arches Entrance Road, 2.5 miles north of the visitors center, off to the north side of the road. The parking lot has a paved walkway that heads 320 feet to a Viewpoint. From there, there is a well-worn trail that heads down the Avenue and towards the Courthouse Towers Parking Lot.

The Courthouse Towers

The massive sandstone towers that make up the western background of Park Avenue are called the Courthouse Towers. Like the prows of enormous ships, these landmarks jut out into the desert below, some of them over 600 feet tall.

The Organ

The Organ is a smaller monolith just to the south of the Tower of Babel, off to the right side of the Arches Entrance Road. The Courthouse Towers parking lot sits off to the west flank of the Organ.

Courthouse Towers Trailhead

The upper trailhead is at the Courthouse Towers parking lot, off to the west flank of a rock structure known as The Organ.

The Tower of Babel

The Tower of Babel is located to the north of the Courthouse Towers, standing just above Courthouse Wash, north of the Organ and beside the Entrance Road.

Before the next train arrives, some difficulties should be removed - Bevor der nächste Zug kommt, sollten einige Hindernisse beseitigt werden.

There is very little room for debate concerning the difficulties and discomfort that acid reflux disorder suffers face on a daily basis. However, the greater they learn about acid reflux disorder, the better it really is for sufferers to discover much-needed relief. Continue ahead to discover different ways for you to deal with your acid reflux disorder and knock it all out for good.

Would you smoke? In that case, you have to quit now. Smoking can in fact help make your acid reflux disorder much worse. It slows both digestion and saliva production, while encouraging your body to create more stomach acid. Finally, your esophageal sphincter is weakened. End the habit of smoking permanently now.

Stress helps cause your acid reflux disorder. If you are stressed, the body naturally produces more stomach acid. Therefore, it is a great idea to take part in something which you find pleasurable after food. You can view some television, read a great book or do anything whatsoever relaxing.

Some foods will make you produce more acid. Common trigger foods include deep-fried food, caffeinated beverages, alcohol, and chocolate. Acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes may also cause reflux. Acid reflux disorder triggers and symptoms vary with every individual, so that you should be vigilant in keeping tabs on your triggers. To become perfectly safe, you are able to avoid most of these items.

It is essential to stay upright as you eat as well as for 2 or 3 hours once you eat too. Resting directly following a meal can allow acid traveling your esophagus with much greater ease. You need to feel much better, and lower symptoms, by sitting or standing.

Smoking causes acid reflux disorder, if you have this issue and you also smoke you might be well advised to avoid. Nicotine may cause acid reflux disorder to worsen. But, you must not quit at one time. Accomplishing this may stress your body, making acid reflux disorder worse. Have a very conservative approach when attemping to give up.

Exercising once you eat may damage you for those who have acid reflux disorder. Excessive activity may cause your recently consumed food to maneuver as much as your esophagus. Don't participate in vigorous exercise for around one hour after food.

Individuals with acid reflux disorder can let you know by pointing out unwanted effects and pain this problem causes. Since you now have read through this article, you will find the knowledge essential to kick acid reflux disorder from your life. The New Years Eve fireworks display at the Space Needle is usually pretty cool. This year they apparently had some technical difficulties leading to a couple of false starts and an overall weak display. This was taken from the roof of my apartment building.

I'm trying to figure out why my photos aren't showing up when I email them.

Anyway, I took this one yesterday on my mobile whilst waiting for Richard to

pick me up after work. Thought I'd have a play with some of the settings,

and I went a little crazy with the sepia tone. This is just one of the many

:)

I managed to go dragonfly hunting yesterday, and came back with a few nice shots. But now, it's back to work...

Because of the difficulties which I had with the breast feeding, I considered all feeding solutions very carefully. Kraamzorg advised me against the pacifier in the beginning since he didn't want to drink directly from my breast. But now we can use the pacifier for Jake, when he just don’t want to stop crying without a reason. I’ve double checked with the mid-wife. She also confirmed that using a pacifier will not cause problems with the breastfeeding, since he already know how to drink. I tried several times before to give him the pacifier, he refused to take it and even get angry because of it.

This is the first time he took it, and it stayed in his mouth for a full 15 seconds …

Everything will have a start, and the start will always be difficult, I think.

Difficulties, like distances depend on the size of the viewer. We have a lot to learn from the #MACRO world.

Photo taken on my trip to the #Amazon. So far there is not enough information on the species of insects here, but the number must cover thousands of species and will continue to increase.

I should be back on tonight. I have updates for 365Days, but everything has wreaked havoc on my nanowrimo. I hope I can still catch up...

There were a few clear views of the snow-blanketed Rockies straight below, and the terrain here was almost at the edge of the Wilderness (though all the scenery here was in fact within it).

The difficulty in taking low light photos on a boat is that, even with a tripod, you need to use high ISO settings because the boat is moving, especially when at anchor. This photo, taken at ISO 1600, F11, and 1/40, had a great amount of noise in it. In the process of removing the noise it created a much softer feel, than I originally intended. At this point its OK with me, as it it the end of February here in Canada right now and the moment of this capture is more of a dream to me than a sharp vivid memory.
