A Bushy Park Little Grebe in breeding plumage. Like the herons, it's difficult to tell the sexes apart
Always sad news to hear that one of our heritage railway's reluctantly have to cease trading. Hopefully this can get sorted and we can see scenes like GWR Collett 5643 leaving the Berwyn Station again

Happy Easter everyone. I thought this might be an uplifting song for Easter morning in the light of the challenges our world faces right now - continuing COVID, the war in Ukraine threatening to get even worse and difficult economic times. There is a small explanation of what the song is about at the end of the lyrics. The shot was taken at Bribie Island in SE Queensland. The link will take you to the youtube video. This song was used as the closing theme in the very funny movie "Bridesmaids" which also had some great messages.
Hold On Lyrics (With thanks to Genius)
I know this pain (I know this pain)
Why do you lock yourself up in these chains?
No one can change your life except for you
Don't ever let anyone step all over you
Just open your heart and your mind
Is it really fair to feel this way inside?
Someday, somebody's gonna make you wanna
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then, baby, are you gonna let them
Hold you down and make you cry?
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change?
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day?
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day
You could sustain
Or are you comfortable with the pain?
You've got no one to blame for your unhappiness
You got yourself into your own mess
Lettin' your worries pass you by
Don't you think it's worth your time
To change your mind?
Ooh, no
Someday, somebody's gonna make you wanna
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then, baby, are you gonna let them
Hold you down and make you cry?
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change?
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
Can you hold on for one more day?
Things'll go your way
Hold on for one more day
I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and
Break free from the chains
Yeah, I know that there is pain
But you hold on for one more day and you
Break free, break from the chains
Someday, somebody's gonna make you wanna
Turn around and say goodbye
Until then, baby, are you gonna let them
Hold you down and make you cry?
Don't you know?
Don't you know things can change?
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day, yeah
If you hold on
Don't you know things can change?
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day
If you hold on
Can you hold on?
Hold on, baby
Won't you tell me now?
Hold on for one more day 'cause
It's gonna go your way
Don't you know things can change?
Things'll go your way
If you hold on for one more day, yeah
Can't you change it this time?
Thanks to Genius for the Lyrics.
Singer Chynna Phillips wrote the lyrics about her struggle with addiction and remembering to "take life one day at a time." Singer Chynna Phillips wrote the lyrics about her struggle with addiction and remembering to "take life one day at a time."
The song emphasizes the importance of persevering in spite of obstacles and not let the situation consume you. Everything will be alright in the end.
This was a difficult compromise :-) I think Macro Mondays has challenged all of us members throughout the year. I chose to focus on some elements I used for the "Relaxation" theme (surfboards, see here: www.flickr.com/photos/134352553@N04/35597512936/) and a new take on the "Musical instruments" theme (piano instead of guitar, see here: www.flickr.com/photos/134352553@N04/24270050178/).
To me, using creativity to figure out what to do is quite different from the "busy" daily life. It is like diving into a paradise where heavenly music plays and "forces" you to relax... agree?
Thanks a lot to the admin group for a really nice year and HMM and HNY to you all :-)
Its been a difficult year, and its going to be a strange Christmas. Wishing you all a good time! Take care and stay safe!
Capturing this scene was easy, just being right place right time. Then spent some time cleaning the dirt from my sensor.
The difficult job here is that hook that was probably installed more then 100 years ago, no hydraulic, pneumatic or electric to help. With the man power...that was difficult, we have it so easy now, dont event realise it !
Gosh, these were difficult shots to take. Whilst it was lovely to see the stars that night, the clear sky meant that even the tiny amount of local light pollution wouldn't help brighten the area. I just had to do the best I could and use some horrible settings... Urgh.
Any sense of real image quality goes down the drain in such darkness. I had to do an awful lot in Post -which I really don't like doing- just to get rid of the really harsh noise. Oh well. Beggers cannot be choosers, and I very much choose to go to these dark places in the middle of the night.
In fairness though, in this shot the darkness hides a load of rubbish that was in the foreground.

Right now my whole world spin around photography, but music was my first love. That first love that is never forgotten and that permeates you to the last cell of the body.
I am quite a spiritual person and therefore I think that things do not happen by chance.
Last Saturday afternoon I went out again to do Street Photography. It has been more than a month since due to circumstances I had not been able to go out and take pictures in Valencia's old town. This last outing was completely different. Wonderfully different.
I practice yoga and my teacher of this discipline, Juan, also runs a pub called "LA FLAMA" in the historic center very close to the Torres de Serranos. Music sessions are usually held there and a Jazz session was scheduled for yesterday Saturday. The session was canceled due to circumstances and instead of that take his place Julián Díaz, an unusual pianist.
It wasn't too late when I passed the pub door, so the pianist was doing rehearsals. My teacher kindly invited me to come in and take some photos while the pianist was playing…
The piano player put on his hat, sat down at the piano, and began to play the main theme from the movie INTERSTELLAR.
The ethereal light, the atmosphere at the corner of the local, the passion of the pianist in his interpretation of the theme, all the elements formed a magical moment in which the tears fulled up in my eyes making difficult to get focus properly with my camera since I always work with completely manual lenses.
With this humble work I want to deeply thank the great present that I received unexpectedly the day after my birthday; a gift in wich music and photography merged into a stunning and marvellous single feeling.
Thank you Juan. Thank you Julián.

I should have waited for this show at the position of the previous photo, with the light reflected by the snow illuminating the ground, but I was a bit cold and went down and during the descent I had this show (that I had considered), therefore trying to stay in an area of the zone with a still fairly wide view.
It is difficult to best render similar contrasts and natural colors so powerful and saturated as to require a slight reduction in saturation during file processing, a difficult choice.
The strong contrast of both light and colors was not perfectly managed by the camera, while I should have used the tripod and decreased the shutter speed to better diffuse the light, therefore a better exposure that would have helped to contain noise and burned details.
I can say that it is a photo captured in the moment, without the appropriate equipment, but believe me that the show was truly unique.
MG Tower was another difficult to access tower, but despite the tough to get to location, MG was lensed by a plethora of railfans over the years. Over three quarters of a century after its construction, MG still stands west of the Horseshoe Curve, long since closed. On this snowy day in February of 1985, though, MG was very much alive! A westbound with helpers on the rear is seen exiting MG's interlocking limits as another westbound is about to take a clear signal lined by the operator.

They saw me! At a distance even difficult with 400mm, this semi wild herd at Hackwood Park in Basingstoke. The deer are in a huge enclosure with its own woodland and lake. Often it is impossible to see them but they came out into the sun for Christmas! We had a wonderful day but today we are back to high winds and heavy rain!!
Difficult to see in migration, this sought-after warbler becomes almost conspicuous in breeding habitat. Port Huron SGA.
what to do if you do not have any girls .. just borrow your friends. She absolutely loves moddeling, although difficult to keep your eyes open and smile naturally... ;). Doing a great job. Shame we did not bring a MUAH and the local pharmacy lacked bright yellow lipstick and eyeshadow... Shame we missed the sunset.. but we will do this next holiday! A difficult shot as you may infer from the settings I had to use. Happy with the outcome under the circumstances. I could barely see him at first.... And of course, anything that was sunlit was horribly overexposed! Thanks to modern cameras and computer software, we can find / enjoy the thrills hidden in the branches!

Eastern Paradise Whydah - male with breeding plumage
The name long-tailed paradise whydah can also refer to the exclamatory paradise whydah.
Wikipedia:
Long-tailed paradise-whydah (Vidua paradisaea) male.
Chobe National Park, Botswana
The long-tailed paradise whydah or eastern paradise whydah (Vidua paradisaea) is a small brown sparrow-like bird of Eastern Africa, from eastern South Sudan to southern Angola. During the breeding season the male moults into breeding plumage that consists of a black head and back, rusty brown breast, bright yellow nape, and buffy white abdomen with broad, elongated black tail feathers up to 36 cm long (approximately three times the length of its body). Males and females are almost indistinguishable outside of the breeding season.
It is a brood parasite to the green-winged pytilia. Male long-tailed paradise whydahs imitate the song of the male green-winged pytilia. The whydah chicks are larger and louder than the host chicks, so the foster parents will give them more attention than their own chicks.
Although difficult to breed in captivity because of their brood parasitic nature, these finches, particularly the males, are sold as pets in the United States and other countries. When breeding these birds in captivity, a single male is usually given access to multiple females and each female needs access to multiple active green-winged pytilia nests.

The remains of the old Point Pleasant–Byram Bridge are difficult and dangerous to access on the Delaware River. I've been looking for sites in my current locale for sunsets, so last night I made a series of attempts to capture the moment...

There was just a small slot across the Lake to the south. I was thinking that the clouds that were moving in would slide over and block off the gap before sunrise. That seems to be what often happens. On Tuesday, the clouds took their time and the sun was able to shine through the slot for the sunrise.
Lake levels are low enough (about 7 inches less than last year) to walk the shoreline in places where it previously was very difficult to do without getting wet.
We have had no extended period of cold weather at the south end of Lake Michigan this winter. The only places with ice seem to be up in the quiet water parts of Green Bay.
Thanks for looking!
Hello amazing Flickr people!
Today is a red day at Color My World Daily Group and the theme at Macro Mondays is handle.
Each time, Red Lady had some difficult questions to handle, she is trying to find a peaceful place, all alone to think about her problems. Today, Red Lady had to present an un-lockdown plan to her employees…. Of course, she had some ideas and guidance from the Government, but confusion was everywhere … There were contradictions in almost every new rule to respect…Several points in the plan were too hot to handle even for Red Lady. She was very confused, and she needed some alone time to handle each point of her reopening the business plan… She didn’t want to fly off the handle while presenting her dubious (and questionable…) plan.
Luckily for her, she found a calm place, in no time. At the top of a handle of her coffee cup, peace and good smell of coffee was everywhere. She climbed her telescopic ladder (which was always in her purse) with difficulties, since she had some new (and very heavy and dense ones) love handles after being so inactive during the lockdown. She started to think about how to handle her reopening plan. The smell of fresh coffee was very helpful! And the view was just beautiful! She was, now, sure that she was able to handle herself very well in front of her employees.
But unfortunately, I have to go and leave this story here… On the top of a handle of my coffee mug… You guessed it: Monday morning video meeting will be on in few minutes!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and healthy!! And enjoy your day !!!
Pretty difficult light, but I like the pose/wing-span. He had just finished mating - all of 5 seconds or so.
Difficult shot inside a bush reserve with not too much light filtering through. I am actually quite stoked that I saw this NZ endemic bird and managed to capture it on camera. Slow-ish shutterspeed and ISO pushed up quite high to let some light in. Shot in APS-C crop mode. I used DxO PhotoLab 3.2 to lighten the image by 0.5 stop post processing and applied prime noise reduction.
Thanks to everyone for visits , comments , awards and invitations, I appreciate your feedback very much
Gunita is reading a difficult book in my garden. She thinks and thinks, trying to understand what is written in the book...!! Suddenly I can see a "Thinking Hat" appearing on top of her...Quickly, I get hold of a camera and take this photo...!!!
Note: In UK when we would like others to think hard to solve a problem, we say "put your thinking hat on". My picture was planned with the thought re: this theme..... So, the hat over my Gunita is there for a reason......:)))

Airborne moisture and a hazy horizon made it difficult to get a sharp and clear image of the Milky Way rising when I visited Cuttagee Beach, Australia, in late April this year.
Despite those challenges, I caught some of the majesty of our home galaxy’s core region as it climbed the sky. A prominent feature of this region of the sky is the Lagoon Nebula, aka M8, an interstellar cloud that shows in my photo as a distinctly pink blob about one-third of the way up from the bottom of the shot. At the bottom right, you can see a reflection of the yellowed glow of the Milky Way’s core area.
Due to how much the hazy conditions dimmed the sky, I pushed my camera’s sensitivity setting, the ISO, up beyond what I normally use for nightscape photos. I shot nine images in succession using my Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera and a Yongnuo 50mm f/1.4 lens @ f2.2, with an exposure time of 8.0 seconds @ ISO 12800. The nine single shots were then edited in Adobe Lightroom and stacked using Starry Landscape Stacker.
Taken with a vintage 500mm mirror lens on my Micro 4/3 Olympus camera, making the effective focal length 1000mm. To get these flowers in the frame for this composition I had to stand around 8 to 10 meters away from them and the only crop I applied was to get it into a square format. A lens that is a nightmare to use but honestly, so much fun to try to tame the beast. Don't even bother trying to focus the thing at anything less than 1/1000 sec shutter speed. It's like a gifted but very difficult child, hard to control but in the end, worth all the effort.
And not a donut in sight! (Mirror lenses are notorious for producing donut shaped bokeh balls.)

Difficult Life
If you're going through a hard time right now, I encourage you to worship God first before you plunge yourself into your daily life. I know the world expects and demands much from you. The pressure is intense. You forget to pray. Remember that before you can drive a car you must fill it up with gasoline. Only then can you go on your daily journey.
You try to read all the road signs, but sometimes you run into obstacles on your way or you fail to see you're going down a dead end. Such obstacles can make you nervous or even sick. They can lead you to stress, anger, or despair, and before you know it you're driving way too fast and in the wrong direction.
The obstacles will not disappear, but when you pray and trust in the Lord, He will be your guide. By listening to His voice you will gain insight. Recovery always takes time. Keep praying for insight and wisdom, keep reading your Bible daily, and slowly you'll be able to see the road better and know where you are going. There is no shadow in life that can stop His light!

one of the views from Rachel's Knoll, Sedona, arizona
After Rachel's death in 2001, the property that the Knoll sits on was sold to Seven Canyons, but with provisions to allow visitors to the site on an ongoing basis. Originally the buyers did not follow through on these provisions, but because of diligent work by Rachel's children and their lawyer, the courts have now declared that Seven Canyons must comply
Imagine the pristine beauty due west of Sedona with nothing but magnificent red rock formations in all directions. For many years, residents of Sedona were allowed to use a very special place in this extraordinary area. It was found on private property in the Long Canyon area and was owned by a woman named Rachel. She purchased this beautiful land, piece by piece, in the early 1970s and then made it available to the residents of Sedona, and all people from around the world.
Her property was perched high above the Long Canyon valley on a knoll which was later to be known as Rachel’s Knoll. To access her property one had to walk about half a mile meandering up a dirt road allowing ample time to experience and honor the drama and magical beauty of the land. Once on the knoll, one would find medicine wheels, seating areas, trails to guide you around to the meditative areas plus one of the most extraordinary red rock views in Sedona.
This land was most sacred to the Native Americans in the area and was used by them for centuries for their ceremonies and inspiration. Rachel knew when she entered this sacred place that it would be her goal to save it for all people so they might enjoy and honor the Native Americans who once lived there.
I find siskins difficult to capture -- they are small and highly active. A fast shutter speed was used to freeze movement.
Here the bird is perched high in an alder (the German name meaning alder finch is appropriate). The English name siskin is actually derived from the German dialect words Sisschen, Zeischen, which are diminutive forms of Middle High German zîsec and Middle Low German ziseke, sisek, words, which are apparently of Slavic origin.
The strong black and yellow head markings indicate that this is a male; the female is more subdued in colour, with a streaked head.

As difficult as it was getting up that early in the freezing cold, it was worth it for the photos we managed to get!
Waiting at train station so just a quick upload. Have also hit the 10,00 views marker. Massive thanks to everyone for all your comments and interest.

I had not realised that making a collage could be so interesting, difficult or time consuming and this too despite taking a print out of the reference! Made over 3 sittings.
I have been looking at Gila Rayberg's inspirational mosaics for a while now and more recently I saw a beautiful piece by Irit Levi and was excited about trying out. I decided that a collage would be easier than making a mosaic. While it might be easier, I can confirm that it isnt easy! :D
I'm trying to work out a way to use Fomapan 400 as a Kallitype negative, but it's proving difficult to get it to work as I want with Pyro developers. With Pyrocat HD it produces lots of density but higher values are all mashed together into a flat mess. I think I will give up and stick with FP4 for making Kallitype negs.
This is the second of two identically exposed sheets of Fomapan 400, this one developed in home made Mytol, an Xtol ascorbate clone.

It was frustratingly difficult to capture any of 'The Cambrian' charters sunlit, but if there was only one location to choose from for a traditional composition, then this would have to be the place. Standard '4MT' 2-6-0 76079 heading the down 'Cambrian', the 1J77 10:04 Machynlleth to Pwllheli, approaching Penhelig, near Aberdovey, at the so-called Picnic Island, during a brief spell of sunshine on 21st August 2009. After several weeks of running the weekday services, the loco was wearing a very pleasing BR era-style patina by this time.
