Chhat Festival 2009. Shot @ Varanasi.
One from the archives. I found this devotee at the festivals coming down a flight of stairs keeping herself prostrate on the ground.
There is something about this picture that I like. I hardly had any time to compose properly and shoot. There was a commotion around her and I had to shoot through a gap in the crowd almost instantaneously.
I know it would have been better if I had her whole body in the frame.

Here in the Buddha Footprint sala at Wat Phra Phuttabat Si Roy devotional offerings to the Buddha, the teacher.
This manuscript was created ca. 1500 in Bruges or Ghent, and was influenced by the Master of the Prayerbooks, the Master of the Dresden Prayerbook, and the Master of the David Scenes in the Grimani breviary. It was likely made for a female patron with Franciscan affinity, as suggested by the contents of the calendar. The book is heavily illuminated with nineteen miniatures, marginalia on pages without miniatures, and twenty-four calendar illuminations, the latter including zodiac signs paired with illustrations of the labors of the month. Miniatures show detailed interior spaces with Renaissance architectural elements and proportional figures.
This was taken at St. Vitus Cathedral inside the Prague Castle. 3 exposures, handheld.
comments/suggestions?
After a long and at times painful arm injury I felt it was time to pick up Flickr again. Sitting behind a computer is becoming enjoyable again. I thank everybody that mailed me and was interested in my well being. Very good to have such nice friends here.
This is in Chinatown in London, UK. I recently had some time to spare between legs and headed into town. I was walking through Lisle Street - parallel to the touristic part of Chinatown – and saw this chef prepare dim sum dumplings at a yum cha restaurant (飲茶). Her concentration, dedication and devotion with which she prepared the Chiu-chao style dumplings struck me at heart. It was as if the windows acted as some sort of a “warp hole” between two dimensions, as both our worlds where so different yet connected for a couple of minutes.
I took several photos and she never looked up while I – a lengthy westerner – bended forward to get a good peek through the relative low and small window. Luckily I had my wide converter already on my G9, for after three shots she was finished with this lot of dim sums and headed to another part of the restaurant.
The Kambattadi Mandapam of the Meenakshi Temple you will find easily on this map and if you go there between 16 and 18 o'clock in January till begin March you will see this beams of lights enlightening the hall, here the Hanuman statue, a popular place for all Hindu to make a small prayer and a popular place for tourists to take photos. Nowadays videos are not allowed, still got some of '94, and for a photo-camera you will have to pay a ticket of 30 Rps.
By the way, in Rameswaram you can find the footprint of Hanuman, the monkey god, when he jumped from there to Sri Lanka to save Sita from the demon-king Ravan to bring her back to Lord Rama.
A whole story very pleasant to read about in Dutch or in English.
Please do read it once, you will enjoy it.

A mother's devotion knows no boundaries. Despite the hardships the poorer Tibetans face, the family unit is still very strong and closely knit.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus"

P.S. I'd still appreciate any comments or suggestions. But since I've been very busy, I'm not really sure if can reciprocate the gesture. I'll try my best to visit your streams during my free time though. Anyways, thanks for visiting! Ü
