I arrived at Chicago at Sct Patricks day without knowing it. I knew about the basics, it's an Irish tradition, and that the river is colored green and there is a great party in the city of Chicago. I realized it when I saw people walking around with green hair and funny hats and everybody was so happy. I shot of the Millers Pub in Chicago with their Sct Patricks Days sign on. This is my deep purple clematis (my fav one, but don't tell the other one!) which I did not have a chance to capture last year. It has just started blooming and I have been excited to get a good shot or two. I love the center of these flowers because they remind me of sea anemone.

A DC MOC from Ben?!?! Whattt!!! ... This isn't Marvel!

Yeah man DC is rad, and so was the Aquaman movie! After buying the set based off of the movie, I just had to make a vig with those figs. Really happy with this one. Would love to play with 'underwater stuff' again in future!

Also I would've posted detailed pictures on MOCpages or Brickshelf, but both site aren't working (I can upload to MOCpages but the images become dead links, and Brickshelf I can't login or even create an account) ... Anyone know what's up there?

Our next champion and one of the most detailed I've created Urbosa!

This figure was quite simple with very minimal sculpting, except for the hair. xD The only major problem I had was getting the parts for this fig as the color of her skin was hard to find, but eventually I found all of the pieces I needed.

The torso was sanded down to give her the curve and the legs were extended using Billy's method. All sculpting was done with Procreate and Greenstuff and and I used Apple Barrel, Citadel, and Anita paints. The sword was made using card, paper, Procreate, Lego pieces, and a Brickarms handle.

Now I'd like to talk about the shield specifically, you might think that it's just a flat piece of card with Procreate added on to it, but then you'd be wrong. The shield is 100% handmade and it actually hollow instead of being a flat surface. I was inspired to do it this way by Detroitika and how he makes his swords. So huge thanks to him for the inspiration.

Now that's all I have to say about the fig, comments and faves are appreciated! Up next is Mipha!

EDIT: If you noticed she doesn't have the little tail things on her boots, that's because they were very hard to make and unstable so I decided to not have them :p

There seem to be about 10 different species of Fritillary butterflies in Alberta. They look rather similar, so I won't attempt to give a more detailed ID. This one was hidden by grasses, so I was unable to get a nice, clear shot.

Six days ago, on 23 July 2015, five of us spent the day botanizing the land belonging to Darryl Teskey, SW of Calgary and W of Millarville (maybe a 40-minute drive from Calgary). This was the first time I had been there and I'm so glad I went - I would have missed all sorts of things, including a family of Ruffed Grouse and several fungi. These Grouse were the rare rufous-morph, and we startled them when we were walking through the forest in their direction. Usually, you don't see Grouse because they are so well-hidden. When you get fairly close (sometimes very close) to them, they suddenly "explode" from the tangle of shrubs and plants of the forest floor, making ones heart beat fast!

Our walk took us over grassland and through forest, everywhere treacherous with so many fallen logs which were often barely visible. I have never, ever seen so many tiny Skipper butterflies - there must have been hundreds or even thousands of these bright orange beauties that were flying or perched on flowers of every colour.

Fortunately, the rain stayed away until we started driving back to Calgary. Quite a lot of black clouds, reminding me of the tornado that passed through Calgary just the day before (22 July 2015).

Our purpose, as always, was to find and list everything that we saw - wildflowers, trees, grasses, birds, insects, fungi, etc.. Our leader then compiles an extensive list of our finds and this is later sent to the landowner, along with any photos that we might take. Always a win/win situation, as the landowner then has a much better idea of just what is on his property, and we have a most enjoyable day. This summer, with quite a few botanizing outings like this, plus two 3-day trips to Waterton Lakes National Park, I am so far behind with the photos that I need to edit and e-mail!

A detailed close-up shot captures a cluster of dark purple, almost black, berries of common ivy (Hedera helix) against a blurred background of vibrant green ivy leaves. The round berries are prominently featured, showcasing their texture and color, while the distinctive lobed leaves frame the composition. The natural light highlights the details of the plant, suggesting a sunny outdoor setting.

The Old Royal Naval College is the architectural centrepiece of Maritime Greenwich, a World Heritage Site in Greenwich, London, described by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as being of "outstanding universal value" and reckoned to be the "finest and most dramatically sited architectural and landscape ensemble in the British Isles". The site is managed by the Greenwich Foundation for the Old Royal Naval College, set up in July 1998 as a registered charity to "look after these magnificent buildings and their grounds for the benefit of the nation". The grounds and some of its buildings are open to visitors. The buildings were originally constructed to serve as the Royal Hospital for Seamen at Greenwich, now generally known as Greenwich Hospital, which was designed by Christopher Wren, and built between 1696 and 1712. The hospital closed in 1869. Between 1873 and 1998 it was the Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

I found a good photo of ISS from NASA. It is probably easier to identify certain parts of the station :)

I'm not entirely sure about the vehicle docked to the bottom of ISS, specifically to Zvezda module.

Progress M-29M cargo supply was launched on the 1st October 2015, but can't find anything about its return yet. So it seems like that little bright spot close to Zvezda it the Progress vehicle.

George Poteet holds the world’s record for the fastest piston engine car. He’s broken that record more than once racing across the Salt Flats in Utah. Why is his vintage car collection in a Mississippi town of roughly 8,000 people? Because he likes it that way. The car portraits in “Detailed” were shot during a visit to Poteet’s farm, and are one of several quiet, yet surprising, stories hiding out in Holly Springs, Mississippi.

Before posting more detailed impressions on the results of using the FaceApp to enhance and modify your face, I am sharing the very first filter that we can apply. When you upload a photo to the app, it spends a few seconds identifying faces. If it finds a single face, it proceeds to open the image and it the is more than one it will let you select the face you want to work with. Once a face is opened, the initial screen is displayed (image on the left), giving you several options to work with, including gender.

From my experiments, the first, and maybe only, filter that should be applied to make our face look more feminine, is the gender option. If the app recognized the face as feminine, it will give you a single feminine filter and two masculine filters (center image). The feminine option will enhance your feminine features by changing the shading and some proportions and also lengthening the hair a little (right image). The two masculine options will each turn your face into a masculine equivalent which, in my case, both were very different from my masculine self.

On the other hand, if the app identifies the face as masculine, it will give you a single masculine option and two feminine options; one with long and the other with short hair. I tried both feminine options with my male photo and the results were terrible and nothing like Cristy. However, after making that "woman" younger and applying makeup, the image appeared more feminine but not even close to what I look as Cristy. Needless to say, that I will not show those images here, but must admit that the resulting woman displayed a distant genetic resemblance to the man while not look remotely like the woman that man can turn into.

Of all the photos I have tried so far, and I have tried a lot, only one was identified as male and not as female. I think that my expression might have been too rough in that particular image. Unfortunately, I do not recall which was it, as I deleted it as soon as the results were not as expected. Call it vanity or disappointment! :P

CONCLUSION

I really like how the feminine filter make the original photo look much more feminine without drastic changes. You will notice a wider mouth, larger eyes with more shading and a more luminous face. It also lengthened the hair just a bit and changed the color to a lighter shade. I think that, in reality, similar results could be achieved if I were to spend some time contouring and shading my face and putting more eye shadow and eyeliner to make the eyes look bigger.

From an objective point of view, the original image looks convincingly feminine but still displays masculine proportions and features. The resulting image is, in my opinion, convincingly feminine and could fool most of the people who see it. The way I see it is how would my face could change if I were to take hormones. Tempting as it may be, I will never post a photo that has been enhanced with the app without making it very clear the enhancements that have been applied and will, most likely, post it next to the original for illustrative purposes.

In future postings I will show how age and hair length can be changed and finally how using the only makeup filter that comes with the free app, results in overkill and very fake looking images.

Oh, and nothing I can do about the big nose!

Yep a fairly detailed selfie using the bathroom mirror, taken with a newly acquired, but used Sony A6300 and a new Chinese made manual focus 23mm f1.4 lens. It took a few shots to get focus that shows wrinkles and all.

So now my choice of gear to use includes Canon with AF lenses, an ancient FF Nikon with a couple of AF lenses and my old MF lenses and a tiny compact Aps-c sensor Sony camera. Yep, talk about not being able to make up my mind. I wanted something small and light and Canon really had nothing this small, and with a cheap lens adaptor that I purchased I can mount my old MF Nikkors. I also bought a 23mm prime used here, a dirt cheap fixed aperture 18mm MF lens (pretty much a toy) and a used Sony PZ16-50mm kit lens so I would at least have something in AF for the camera.

I have been shooting a bunch with the new to me compact Sony camera, getting to know it. Mostly around home and also at Hillside Park. I will be posting pictures using this camera over the next while, and many will be in B&W.

The post from yesterday was taken with the same lens as this shot, a Chinese made TTArtisan 23mm f1.4 prime. Completely manual. By no means are earth shattering quality of images produced, but the lens itself is mostly metal including the lens cap and focuses very smoothly. Great build quality in my opinion. Pretty sharp in the center at all apertures, but terribly soft not far out from center, and edges are down right blurry. This shot was cropped quite a bit. That said, it, or most any lens for that matter can still create useable images. One just has to work with its limitations.

Future posts will have limited descriptions. This long winded description was just to let you know if my recent purchases.
