The 2013 Black Forest Fire was the state's most destructive wildfire on record; it burned 14,000 acres, destroyed 486 homes, and caused $85 million in damages. Volunteers helped the park recover by installing log and other erosion control structures, protecting the park assets downhill of the burn site and removing invasive weeds. Boeing and subsidiary Jeppesen volunteers took part.

Intro

Queen Crystal is a fictional character, the princess of the Queendom of Magicalu, a cold, mountainous realm on the planet Dommalex. She was born in a crystal cave, a refuge her mother, Queen Shiny, sought while fleeing a massive blizzard dragon named White-sheen.

Chapter 1 - The 2 shiny queens.

Queen Shiny, Crystal's mother, was the original ruler of Magicalu and the guardian of the Staff of Dominance. During her pregnancy with Crystal, a formidable blizzard dragon, White-sheen, threatened her kingdom. White-sheen is described as an immense creature, 500 meters long with a 400-meter wingspan, composed of shiny crystallized ice. This dragon caused significant destruction, including numerous avalanches that covered "Cool City" and reached the "White Docks." A mage named White-sky attempted to remove the dragon from Mount Soaring due to its destructive impact. In an attempt to combat White-sheen, Queen Shiny and her girlfriend Glossy opened the "Magic Book of the Four Winds," a powerful spellbook intended to dispel ice demons. However, fearing the dragon's approach toward her seat of rule, the Sky Tower, she fled. She felt the powerful winds generated by the dragon's wings as she sought refuge in a crystal cave, where she subsequently gave birth to Crystal. This narrative establishes Crystal's royal lineage and her destiny as the Princess of Magicalu.

Following the mage's success in subduing the dragon and closing the "Magic Book of the Four Winds," Queen Shiny was uncrowned for several reasons. These included abandoning her people, opening a forbidden book, and infidelity to her husband, Prince Hardice V. Queen Shiny's lover was a "pretty latex lady named Glossy." Shiny had intended to depose Hardice and establish Glossy as a second queen, ruling Magicalu together. The populace disapproved of this plan, leading to Hardice being crowned king and the land being renamed the Kingdom of Magicalu. Queen Shiny, in shame, left the kingdom, declaring her preference for "shiny sexy latex" and her love for "rubber latex more than her queendom," leaving Princess Crystal in the care of King Hardice.

Chapter 2 - Princess Crystal

Crystal, a prominent figure in the Kingdom of Magicalu, is known for her mastery over ice and water, a common ability among her people, and her unique power of inner magic. Her magical prowess developed significantly over time, earning her the title of "Winter Sorceress" by the age of 12.

By the age of 15, Crystal was noted for her beauty, reminiscent of her mother, and began incorporating latex clothing into her attire, sourced from the Kingdom of Latxrubbero. At 18, she received a significant collection of latex garments from Queen Petal. Queen Petal, at 20, had just been crowned queen of Latxrubbero and subsequently renamed it the Queendom of Latxrubbero. Concurrently, Crystal ascended to the throne of Magicalu. The latex attire from Queen Petal was described as "very sexy and very shiny." While Crystal previously favored silver and blue latex catsuits, corsets, and boots, Queen Petal's collection introduced her to latex mini-skirts, mini-dresses, blouses, and tops. Given Magicalu's cold climate, in contrast to Latxrubbero's hot jungles, Crystal often layered. These new "sassy, sexy, shiny outfits" replaced her existing latex catsuits, complemented by corsets and gloves. Upon becoming queen, Crystal married Frost, who was then made King Frost on their wedding day, though the land retained the name Queendom of Magicalu. On their wedding night, Crystal had a latex bed where she experienced great pleasure with the king.

Chapter 3 - King Frost's rule

King Frost, known as the Winter Wizard, ruled the land and was skilled in magic, particularly with dragons. He told Crystal and the people that the incident with the blizzard dragon, White-sheen, would not have occurred had he been king at the time. Even as king, he still sought Crystal's permission before acting, telling her that her beauty was too compelling to disobey. Crystal reminded him that he was the king, but he insisted the throne should be hers. Every time he returned and appeared before her, he would bow, saying, "My peerless lady, I have returned." Crystal smiled, pleased by this, but reiterated that he was the king when others were watching. King Frost spent a lot of his time flying a white crystal dragon named Clearubus. He went to the smaller towns and villages of Magicalu to help the people. While he was gone, Crystal was free to sit on the throne or spend time in her room trying on new latex outfits. She loved her latex and knew her mother, Shiny, loved them also. She spent time thinking about where her mother might be. She asked her knights, and one said that Shiny had gone south with Glossy to the kingdom of Hexonu. Word had been that Crystal's beauty was great, but now word had it that Shiny and Glossy's beauty was beyond what it was. It is said that both Shiny and Gloss are still seen as queens, but the ruler of Henonu is King Eldrin, the old, wise, and powerful mage.

One day, Crystal asked King Frost if she could visit one of the towns she was helping on Clearubus. On this day, Crystal wore a shiny, black and blue outfit, wishing to look stunning for the people, the king, and herself. The king had started to build new towns in the south of Magicalu on the lowlands, where it was warmer. One of the towns Crystal named was Ice-melt Town, as ice was melting from the highlands, and many small rivers ran there, though they were not true rivers, only melt flows. The people of the new town, knowing it was named by her, stated that she always did as she pleased, like any queen of their land. Everyone saw Crystal as a very sexy and dominant latex lady, as she appeared dominant to the king, and he was weak to her. Crystal joked about using her latex whip on the king if he misbehaved.

Later that week, King Frost returned to his royal hall to find Crystal on his throne in a skin-tight black latex catsuit, a black latex corset with a mini-skirt, and black shiny knee-high boots. She sat in a sexy, dominant pose, holding a whip. King Frost knew she could be a hottie with a whip within the royal hall and on his throne. He bowed to her as always as she slapped her whip in her hand, giggling, then saying, "You see me as more powerful always and bow to worship my beauty. You need to love me more and not see me as an object of sexiness, even though we both know I'm hot. You will look after your people better if you're not always lusting over getting back to me. You wish to do all I wish to make me happy. Then spend more time helping the people than rushing back to me. I'm safe with the knights and my magical powers." King Frost said he loved her and was sorry.

Chapter 4 - The daughters of Crystal

Crystal had her first daughter, Glacier, when she was 19 or 20. Within Dommalex, human females gestate faster, within a span of 12–16 weeks. Some use magic to speed it up. Glacier's name was inspired by a natural phenomenon: a glacier formed from an avalanche caused by the blizzard dragon named White-sheen on the day of Crystal's birth from Queen Shiny. A year later, Crystal had her second daughter, Elsa. Two years after Elsa's birth, when Crystal was 22, she had her third daughter, Icelyn. After having three daughters, Crystal decided she did not want more children and exercised self-control in her personal life. King Frost suggested potions for sexual activity without conception, but she believed excessive sex was not suitable for a ruler. She was widely regarded as a wise queen and a good mother, guiding her daughters. Crystal also shared tales of the Staff of Dominance with Glacier, the eldest, emphasizing that while their royal lineage had long safeguarded the staff, they were never meant to use it.

Queen Crystal was a family-oriented woman who enjoyed taking her daughters to other towns and cities. Everyone admired Crystal's inner and outer beauty. Crystal particularly liked Ice-melt Town, with which she had a history. All was well for her and her daughters as they sat and played by the Meltwater River, the only true river there. The water, melted snow from the highlands, was safe to drink. When Crystal was 28, she modeled for a painter by the Meltwater River, as everyone desired a stunning artwork of her for their town. Crystal wore silver and black latex and posed provocatively for her painting by the well-known artist Blizzard-bush. Crystal had many portraits painted of her and had posed for extended periods. Many told Crystal that she was a far better queen than her mother, Shiny, had ever been. Crystal disliked talking about her mother or Shiny, knowing they were both known for being selfish, greedy, and lustful queens. She told many that she hoped her mother was well and happy but did not want to know what she was doing and did not talk to her daughters about her much.

Princess Glacier, following in her mother's footsteps, grew into a powerful and responsible individual. She was often seen in blue, skin-tight latex outfits and was committed to protecting the Staff of Dominance. At the age of 17, Glacier had a daughter named Crystal. Glacier ascended to the throne and became queen at 26, at which point Crystal was 9 years old. Crystal also learned that her mother, Shiny, was still alive at 60 and residing with Glossy in Enchantment City, located within the Kingdom of Hexonu.

Chapter 5 - Beyond the 12 kingdoms and queendoms

Gem Island was northeast of Glossu, a land of crystals in the lowlands northeast of Magicalu. Crystal had recently spent much time in the crystal lands. She had been told that many missing rulers went to the islands beyond the Twelve Kingdoms, and she wanted to discover if any remained and why they went. She brought many latex outfits, planning a life of enjoyment. She wanted Glacier to rule without interference. In this time, many had gone missing. Talk of a new world order was circulating, with some saying the seers had foreseen a coming doom. Crystal was not fleeing but searching for the missing rulers and other well-known powerful beings. Crystal feared this doom would occur at the end of her life or within the lives of her three daughters. Some say they went to the Lost Lands across the Sea of Ships, east of the Twelve Kingdoms and Queendoms. Many say one gets lost within the Lost Lands, but some knew that the Lost Lands had three realms with towns and cities. Crystal believed she could use her allure to persuade people to reveal information they were told to keep secret and to take her wherever she desired. She packed her most striking and shimmering outfit, which she thought would captivate men. She planned to present herself as a sweet and kind girl, but she also brought her latex crop-whip, magically bound to double as a wand. She anticipated needing to display her dominant side, which she also enjoyed.

To the northeast of Magicalu, at the white docks overlooking Ice-dragon Bay, she spoke to many and found a ship called the *Shining Waters*. The captain was a beautiful latex lady named Maristela. Maristela claimed to know all the islands and to have visited them all. Maristela also knew of another lady who owned the ship called the *Rubber Sails*; that captain was named Captain Cordelia. Maristela relayed that Cordelia had been to the Lost Lands, where many reportedly get lost. However, Cordelia had not ventured into the Lost Lands, as "we people of the sea never go too far inland." Crystal asked Maristela to take her to Gem Island, but Maristela told her, "Gloss Island is where my fine latex ladies go." Crystal still wanted to go to Gem Island, so Maristela took her, saying she could not wait if Crystal was gone for more than a day because the power from the crystal there bends time and space, making time move both fast and slow. Maristela mentioned that a ship docks there, and others could take her, but the beings on Gem Island are not human.

Chapter 6 - Gem island

It took five weeks for the ship, the *Shining-waters*, to reach Gem Island, the northernmost island of Dommalex. They had passed many sheets of ice along the way. Crystal, a latex queen from the highlands of Magicalu, put on many latex layers and went below deck into her cabin, wrapping herself in the latex bedding and rubbery sheets provided, as her love for latex was well-known. Upon arriving at the island, the weather had become warm, and she emerged to behold the magical island made of shiny white ice crystals and many other colorful ones. When she arrived on the island, the ice was hot and melting, but it never melted away. Captain Maristela, in a skin-tight red latex outfit, told her it would never melt or freeze as time here was looping. Maristela said she was told a tale about Gem Island: that Gimmorrighte, the goddess of light, and Aeon, the god of time, were once lovers who spent time here before people came into being in the First Age. Their time here was unknown, but their power remained. Gimmorrighte loved and made many of the magical crystals that are all over the world, and Aeon had the power of time. Only a portion of them are here, and the island's power is beyond understanding.

A path appeared from nowhere and was constantly changing. Crystal felt compelled to follow it, and so she did. Maristela, however, remained with her ship, cautioning Crystal that their perception of time would differ. "Many who go there are never seen again," she warned. Crystal followed the path, sensing that all the lost queens and kings had not gone to the lost land but to this place. Everything felt dreamlike as the path twisted and turned, resembling growing crystals and waving like solidified water. Beings materialized as if teleported ghosts, a trick of the eye, glitching as the world itself did. She arrived at a temple of gold and crystals, with mist flowing from it, changing colors as if the temple were hovering. Ghost-like beings approached her, but Crystal feared them despite their seemingly good and kind demeanor. They communicated telepathically, stating they knew what she was seeking. She was warned not to enter the temple, as those deemed "lustfully pretty," like Crystal, were forbidden. The beings offered to transport her to another island before her time expired. Crystal found herself on a different island, recognizing it as Gloss Island. She realized the powerful beings, neither gods nor goddesses, had understood her desire and sent her where she wished to go. She then thought of Maristela, as her psychic had told her that Maristela had long gone back to her own land, as she had wanted for days. Crystal knew she had been trapped within a time loop, but the beings made sure all was okay and teleported away to leave her be.

Chapter 7 - Gloss island

She had not long been teleported to the island known as Gloss Island by unknown ghostly beings from Gem Island. She knew she had been trapped within a time loop but had no idea how many days or weeks it had been; to her, it felt like an hour. She found Gloss Island, a place she had heard of but never visited, covered in shiny, glossy, smooth rock and crystals. She saw a tower in the distance and two shiny latex-clad ladies walking towards her. Crystal, a latex queen, was happy to see someone who loved latex and recognized her as a queen. The ladies asked who she was and how she arrived, as they saw no boat or ship. Crystal replied that she had been teleported. The ladies asked where she was from. Crystal said, "Gem Island." The ladies asked who she was. Crystal told them she was Queen Crystal of the Queendom of Magicalu. The ladies said they had never heard of her, but admitted they did not know much about the twelve kingdoms and queendoms or about the three realms of the Lost Lands. The latex ladies told Crystal she would be happy on Gloss Island while taking her to a town called The Town of Latex Lust. It was full of shiny, pretty latex girls and ladies. Some were dressed as latex rubber dolls, some in sexy latex outfits, some latex girls were kissing each other, while many had latex toys in them, cumming as they walked. Crystal asked the latex ladies, "What is all this?" The latex ladies replied, "For a long time in this world, latex has been a fetish worn by all royal ladies. Many with power have grown greedy and evil in their lust for beauty and power." Crystal told them she had been told by many that her beauty was stunning and that she had power, but she still became a good ruler. The ladies told her, "The girls here are good girls, as they are all nice to each other. We latex ladies just like a bit of fun and have no one to get in our way. Orgasm all you want." We have magic to make it feel better. There is a spell cast on this island that states the more sexually aroused you are and the longer you are in pleasure, the more youthful you will be and the longer you will live.

Crystal said she needed to return to her people. The ladies gave her a home while she awaited the next ship. Crystal was given a latex lair home with latex bedding. As she was a queen, she received a latex throne and many latex clothing items. She was given latex maids to worship her, and they placed many latex sex toys in her room, such as dildos, anal beads, vibrators, and butt plugs. Her maids, dressed in shiny black rubber and hoods, had many sex toys within them, causing their eyes to roll back as they moaned in lust. Crystal asked a maid named Lucyanna, "How long have you been here?" Lucyanna replied, "I came on a ship a long time ago when I was 17, from the land of Kawaiin. My queen sent me away, saying I was too lustful and always horny." Crystal asked another maid, Rubyoai, who said, "I came when I was 23 from Wallfort and was called a nymphomaniac spoiled brat, but I did have sex with many men with such big cocks." Crystal sighed, asking if they wanted to go back home, but the maids said they loved where they now lived.

Chapter 8 - Lost in lust

Crystal found herself on Gloss Island, surrounded by latex and sex toys, with no rules to hinder her desires. She viewed it as a form of freedom and surrendered to her lust. She knew her people would have no idea about her kinky activities, as many considered Gloss Island unknown. In her skin-tight, sexy latex outfit, she walked into her new latex-clad bedroom, saying to her new latex maids in a giggly, lustful way, "I think it's time I had some fun." She had many dildos and, getting into her latex bed, inserted one into her pussy, moving it in and out. A maid came in and said it had modes: spinning, shaking, or moving in and out. Crystal loved the ideas and tried the in-and-out mode until she orgasmed. With the spinning mode, she orgasmed again, and then with the other, she orgasmed once more. She continued this for four hours, then rested. Her maid made her a night meal and placed some items on the table to accompany it. Crystal asked what sweets they were. Her maid, Lucyanna, said they were "pleasure sweets": the white one makes you orgasm multiple times consecutively, the green one keeps you greedy for more, and the red one can change your sexual attraction, making you bisexual, as most sexy girls are. Crystal stated she felt bisexual and autosexual while wearing a latex outfit. She enjoyed the idea of fully embracing her autosexuality, allowing her maids to worship her more. She became lustful and instructed her maids to wear latex and to penetrate her anally and vaginally simultaneously.

A week later, two ladies arrived from the town of Latex Lust. The two women, Vivienney and Raven, looked alike and kissed each other on the lips. Crystal stopped them, stating she recognized their names and identifying Raven as a Succubus. Raven nodded, explaining that she was a demon of lust but wished not to be evil. She expressed her desire to help the "power girls" who had been cast out of their lands, claiming to have saved them and given them true happiness beyond their dreams. "But you're a demon; you can't be good," Crystal said. Crystal tossed her sex sweets on the floor, standing to face the two latex ladies. Raven tried to calm Crystal, asking her to take a seat. "It's a trap or a sly trick," Crystal said. Raven replied, "It's not a trap. When the next ship comes, you're free to go." Raven explained she was not like Fetishiah, a truly evil succubus of lust. Fetishiah compels others to engage in the kinkiest sex to feed herself with lust and pink lust. Raven stated there was no pink lust here, as the girls never reached that level. Raven said she was trying to be a good demon and only helped lustful girls who could not be saved. Crystal said she wants to go back to her own lands, saying she has had some fun and did enjoy her kinky sex, but she said she did not want to fall in lust. Vivienney told Crystal she cannot go and it is not a trap, saying if you go, you will not live long. Vivienney said Crystal was trapped in a time loop and the 12 kingdoms and queendom are not what they were. Raven tried to hang Crystal, saying sorry, but Crystal said, "Stop, it's a trick to keep me here and turn me into a slutty latex whore." Raven and Vivienney tried to tell her it was not and that they are trying to help her. But Crystal said she would get the next boat home. Vivienne said you would be welcome back, so don't feel shy.

Chapter 9 - Returning home

When Crystal arrived at the 12 Knights and Queendoms, all was barren, and the sky was a black smog. She walked about, looking for someone to talk to, thinking she had been taken to the Lost Lands and not the 12 Kingdoms and Queendoms. She walked the lands of Kawaiin, all the white crystal now dim and all the towns empty. She felt very lonely, as if she were the only one in all the vast land. Her latex outfit, over the days she walked, was getting dusty from the ash. She only had one bottle of latex polish with her and wanted to save it for when she saw someone. She walked south in Kawaiin, knowing Ice-melt Town, southeast of Magicalu, had a good path into the high mountains of Magicalu, her home queendom. Crystal knew the beings of Gem Island had moved her forward in time, but now she thought she must have been put into another age or timeline, as nothing was the same. Many weeks later, she came close to the valley that leads to Ice-melt Town.

Far to the south, she saw a vast wall that had not been there before. She looked towards Ice-melt Town, seeing no lights, but could discern lights moving in the gloom by the wall. Crystal walked to the wall, thinking people were there. The next day, she reached the wall and saw it was guarded by The Unyielding Knights, well-known within the world of Dommalex as the guardians of the Temple of Time in the land known as Latxrubbero. She knew they were holy knights who dedicated their lives to the god Aeon, the god of time. Around 3,500 years ago, in a long passed timeline, they cast a powerful spell upon themselves to remain impervious to the allure of any woman, dedicating themselves solely to guarding the temple and the people. Queen Crystal walked up to them, asking what the wall was. A knight told her it was to keep the demon within the Hell lands. The knight took her to their tower where mages were, ready for war. She saw a three-mile-high dark town with a beam of red light flowing into the sky. They told her it was the Tower of Belle-Glosse. She knew the tales about Belle-Glosse, who was cursed and trapped on an island called Sea-Rock Castle, located in the southwest of the land of Gonzzal. The knights said that the evil Latex Queen Shimmerah was removed from the world by Aeon 225 years ago. Not long after, the curse of Belle-Glosse was removed, and she took over two lands, Wallfort and Toweron, which became the Hell Lands. Now, Belle-Glosse, skilled with her demonic powers, has made herself a queen. Her beauty is great, and all lust for her. She is a dark, gothic beauty who can sway any man into worshipping her. When they have sex with her, she takes their souls and turns them into demons. Our vast wall keeps the demon within her land.

A knight informed Queen Crystal that she had been moved far ahead in time to a new era known as the Age of the Fallen Monarchs, skipping two ages. Crystal was told that her mother, Queen Shiny, had a tale of her own that required caution. Crystal knew her mother was known as a selfish, latex-clad woman, but she was also the one who saved the world from Shimmerah and was seen as a hero who then ruled again. Approximately 130 years ago, Shiny lost her throne for the second time. Driven by an insatiable desire for sex and latex, she neglected her people. This "pink lust" intensified her sexual gratification, creating a self-perpetuating cycle of desire. Her nymphomaniac and hedonistic lifestyle transformed her into a greedy pleasure-seeker. She is now an evil figure, and her whereabouts and fate are unknown. Crystal told the knights, after they gave her a meal and clean water, and let her take a bath and wash her hair, letting her change into another latex outfit and polish it to a high shine. She said she planned to go to her sky-tower palace and city to reclaim her throne and help the remainder of her people. The knights warned her that it was now the Golden Sky-tower. When Shimmerah took over the world, she seized all thrones, crowns, lands, and power, transforming the tower into pure gold as a symbol of her dominance.

Chapter 10 - The sky-tower

When she arrived at the Sky-tower palace of her former queendom, much had changed. It was once constructed of bluish-white ice crystals, and the surrounding land was covered in clear white snow and ice, with a blue sky, as the town was situated at a high elevation. Now, the land was barren with black, ash-like soil, and the surrounding city lay in ruins with dark-looking factories emitting black smoke. The Sky-tower itself was now entirely black and gold. Above the tower, a great storm of pink lightning flashed. Crystal, in her silver and black latex outfit, walked into the tower. She heard sexual moans of lust from every room. She looked into the rooms, seeing thousands of latex-clad female maids, all driven mad by endless sexual pleasure from powerful, magical, sexy toys. A pink mist, "pink lust," was seen in the rooms, emanating from their mouths with each climax. Many pipes were sucking up the pink lust mist. Crystal saw that almost every large room was full of these latex maids having endless kinky sex, bound in rubber. Crystal cast a masking spell to avoid inhaling the pink mist. She tried to free the maids but could not, fearing she would harm them. She then followed the shiny black pipes that led to the high throne room.

Crystal found the queen's lair, now dark and made entirely of shiny black latex, filled with pink fog. She walked into it. Sex toys were everywhere, with latex dildo tentacles emerging from the floor and walls. It was inflatable rubber. She found a sexy, shiny black latex demoness reveling in her lustful greed, with latex bumpy cock tentacles penetrating her anus and vagina, and one sucking on her clitoris. A black rubber pipe was inserted into her mouth.

Crystal asked, "Who are you within my royal hall?" Shiny, the demoness, opened her mouth, releasing the pipe as pink lust flowed from it and from her mouth with a long, lustful, sexual moaning sigh. She said, "I'm your mother, Queen Shiny, or should I say Queen Slutty?" Shiny moaned in a lustful giggle, climaxing as her cum pooled, climaxing every few seconds. Crystal was horrified by what she had become. Shiny said, "Like what I've done to my queendom?" She giggled evilly, "All are my slaves, all to serve their slutty, shiny queen." "No, not everyone, yet." "I will enslave more kingdoms and queendoms, as I want more. All the northern lands are mine, over 30,000 females, all feeding me pink lust."

"When will it stop?" said Crystal.

"When the entire world is mine and under my control," said Shiny. "I will keep having endless sex forever."

"When will it be enough? When will you be satisfied?" asked Crystal.

Shiny climaxed hard, her nipples spraying, not caring that Crystal was watching. Shiny then told her, "My dear, I'm very satisfied. But as I'm such a greedy slut, it will never be enough with all this yummy, extreme, kinky sex." "If I have all this power, why don't I just help my greedy self and acquire more?" Crystal, trying to make her see her evil, said, "But what about all the people of the world, and... and what about me, your very own daughter?" Shiny giggled while climaxing, saying, "I don't give a fuck about anyone. All I care about is me and what I want, and I want all this kinky sex. I don't love you, my dear. I only think I love pleasure: double and triple penetrations, paizuris, pink lust, magical sex, and getting more erogenous zones so I can fuck and be fucked even more." Crystal tried to leave, but Shiny would not let her. Shiny had the Staff of Dominance, and with it, no power was higher.

She made Crystal's outfit entirely shiny black latex, removing her masking spell. This allowed Crystal to take in the pink lust while the other said, "As my daughter, you have only two options: to be added to my pink lust factory to feed me even more pleasure, or to be my slave and help me rule over more lands." Crystal said, "You can't, I'm your..." Shiny then interrupted her, "Saying none say no to me, all will be as I want it to be." With the power of the Staff of Dominance, Crystal was placed in one of the halls of lust along with the other latex-clad maids.

Chapter 11 - Fallen to pink lust

Many latex maids, controlled by Queen Slutty, took Crystal and linked her into a machine. She lay on a shiny black latex surface with her arms and legs hanging down. A large, bumpy dildo was inserted into her vagina, and seconds later, a second one into her anus. As each dildo slid in and out, Crystal's sexual pleasure intensified, and she shouted, "Stop! I'm the queen of this land!" Crystal had an intense orgasm, but the dildos did not stop or slow down. The maids then inserted another into her mouth. Crystal climaxed repeatedly. She loved the feeling but simultaneously tried to fight it and free herself. The machinery was linked to all the girls, who were moaning in pleasure. Within an hour, Crystal had climaxed 15 times. The machine then pushed a vibrating egg onto her clitoris and erect nipples. Crystal’s eyes rolled back from the pleasure. The maids left her to her orgasms. She remained in this state all night. Periodically, water was dispensed from the dildo in her mouth for hydration. If she needed to urinate, she would orgasm. She experienced non-stop sexual pleasure throughout the following day, feeling her libido steadily increasing.

She wanted it to end, but a part of her wanted more. Ten days later, the maids came to check on all the girls. Crystal had been going nonstop without a second of rest, her vagina swollen around the dildo. She now knew every bump as it slid in and out, having almost forgotten what it was like without it. The maids came to her, and she felt the dildo slide out of her. She was just about to think it was over when a new dildo went in, this time with wavy bumps going from top to bottom. Then it started to penetrate her like the other, and her other dildos were also changed. As the toys were all new, her pleasure increased, and she was left to it for a few more days. She was having up to 400 orgasms every 24 hours. She knew she must have orgasmed over 1,000 times, her lust levels growing until she stopped fighting it and started to enjoy it. She knew this was now her new life and decided she might let the toys do the work. She considered herself a girl, after all, and girls love sex. She believed that's why girls have more erogenous zones, as they are made to be pleasured.

Four weeks later, Queen Slutty arrived to inspect the latex sex maids. Slutty walked around Crystal, grinning lustfully. Crystal did not understand her; she could walk about as she was a demon of lust and sex, with all the pink lust from the 30,000 latex maids flowing into her. This time, Slutty was not made of latex skin and hair but wore a black latex catsuit, corset, and boots. Slutty looked incredibly sexy and beautiful. Crystal had heard about her mother’s beauty, as everyone said she was incredibly hot. Crystal wanted to speak to her but had a dildo in her mouth. Crystal climaxed hard. Slutty giggled, saying, “You have such a cute, fucked silly face.” Slutty removed her mouth dildo and asked, "Do you want more, sweetie?" Crystal, overwhelmed by weeks of pleasure, could not speak. Slutty giggled and said, "Just so you know, the real queen, me, is still in the royal room of lust and greed. She's so powerful with the Staff of Dominance. I'm her, but a clone she made—same mind, same evil, greedy selfishness, and love of latex. But my queen self is drowning in far too much extreme nymphomaniac, kinky, slutty pleasure. Oops, I said a bad word. There's never too much pleasure for me." She then placed her pussy by Crystal's mouth and continued talking.

Crystal tried to lick her pussy but could not reach. Slutty's clone asked, "Do you want your mommy to love you? Then cum harder and make her lots of pink lust." "What... what does she want with... me?" Crystal asked, extremely horny. Slutty's clone giggled, saying, "For you to become a slutty nymphomaniac demon of pure sexual lust and greed. When you are pure evil, then she may love you as her own." After Slutty's clone made all her dildos vibrant and spin while sliding in and out. She was left in the factory, her erogenous zones stimulated for many years, driving her to a state of lust that she embraced. She experienced intense pleasure and transformed into a nymphomaniac, relishing every moment and wishing to remain there indefinitely. Her greatest fear was being rescued, as she desired to stay, perpetually aroused and experiencing constant orgasms, always craving more.

Chapter 12 - Saved by an Demoness

Two hundred years ago today, Queen Crystal was added to Queen Slutty's factory of pink lust. Crystal had not aged a day, as the pink lust kept her young, youthful, and lustfully greedy for more sex. The more promiscuous she became, the higher her libido grew. She lusted for more, and more she received. The more she had, the more pink lust she created, and the more kinky power she was given to the evil latex queen of sex. She had forgotten time, not knowing how long she had been there. She felt as though all her erogenous zones were constantly being stimulated, without end. She, like the other latex girls in the Pink-Lust factory, was perpetually triple-penetrated, with all kinds of sex toys constantly tested on them, leading to repeated orgasms. They did not speak to each other, and even if they wanted to, they were too aroused to form words.

Outside the Tower of Lust, a great war had been ongoing for many days. The tower shook from the powerful battle, but the latex girls continued to enjoy themselves. Two latex ladies entered the factory room and began freeing the latex girls, using a magic vaccine on them. When their libido dropped, they helped them out of the room, and a royal knight assisted them further. Crystal did not want to be saved and became very fearful, thinking her slutty life of 200 years was about to end. A latex demoness, the wood-elf succubus named Raven, also known as Rubber-Raven from Gloss Island, approached her. The other latex lady was Vivienney. Raven gave Crystal the vaccine, but Crystal was still aroused, so she gave her two more. For the first time in 200 years, her libido subsided, and Crystal collapsed to the floor. Raven gave her water, saying, "It's over now; you're safe." Raven hugged her, and she was looking for Crystal to save her. "Raven told her, 'If you still want sex later, then you can, but not with pink-lust.'" She asked the knights to help her out of the tower, telling them that she was a queen, Queen Crystal, the true ruler of Magicalu.

Many latex girl maids were saved. While Crystal was being taken from the Tower of Lust into a battleground of mages, knights, golems, and others fighting the demons Queen Slutty had created, half of the Tower of Lust collapsed, and a void was cast into the battleground. The army fled from it. Queen Glossy was in the high tower within Queen Slutty's latex lair. All the pink lust flowed from the tower into the void due to Queen Glossy's magical powers. The void, made of shiny black latex, was now filled with pink lust and all her sex toys, and Queen Slutty was cast into it. The battle was won. Queen Glossy emerged, upset that her former lover, Queen Slutty (once known as Queen Shiny), was no more.

After the factory girls where saved’ Queen Glossy said Shiny had removed all the lust and evil from the world. The dark sky cleared, and the land's shadows flowed into the ground. Queen Shiny was then seen as both the world's evil and the hero who brought light to the realms. After this all the races of Dommalex rebuilt many towns and cities. The barren lands were renamed the Land of Freedom, and Queen Crystal, now cured, took the throne of Magicalu.

Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, native to Australia.

Beautiful birds, but very destructive! They are usually in large flocks and eat fruit, dig up bulbs, break the shoots off trees, etc.

They are intelligent birds and learn to talk when kept as pets! Most commonly, they are taught to say, "Hello Cocky".

I love the way they always seem to look you in the eye.

Pam, I have dedicated this one to you because I remember you saying they were your favourite birds! Thanks for your visits to my photostream. I appreciate all your friendly comments. It's always nice to see your smiling face in my comments list! (i.e. your buddy icon)

Hurricane Sandy (also unofficially known as "Superstorm Sandy") was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, as well as the second-costliest hurricane in United States history. Classified as the eighteenth named storm, tenth hurricane and second major hurricane of the year, Sandy was a Category 3 storm at its peak intensity when it made landfall in Cuba.[1] While it was a Category 2 storm off the coast of the Northeastern United States, the storm became the largest Atlantic hurricane on record (as measured by diameter, with winds spanning 1,100 miles (1,800 km)).[2][3] Estimates as of March 2014 assess damage to have been over $68 billion (2013 USD), a total surpassed only by Hurricane Katrina.[4] At least 286 people were killed along the path of the storm in seven countries.[5]

Sandy developed from a tropical wave in the western Caribbean Sea on October 22, quickly strengthened, and was upgraded to Tropical Storm Sandy six hours later. Sandy moved slowly northward toward the Greater Antilles and gradually intensified. On October 24, Sandy became a hurricane, made landfall near Kingston, Jamaica, re-emerged a few hours later into the Caribbean Sea and strengthened into a Category 2 hurricane. On October 25, Sandy hit Cuba as a Category 3 hurricane, then weakened to a Category 1 hurricane. Early on October 26, Sandy moved through the Bahamas.[6] On October 27, Sandy briefly weakened to a tropical storm and then restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. Early on October 29, Sandy curved north-northwest and then[7] moved ashore near Brigantine, New Jersey, just to the northeast of Atlantic City, as a post-tropical cyclone with hurricane-force winds.[1][8]

In Jamaica, winds left 70% of residents without electricity, blew roofs off buildings, killed one, and caused about $100 million (2012 USD) in damage. Sandy's outer bands brought flooding to Haiti, killing at least 54, causing food shortages, and leaving about 200,000 homeless; the hurricane also caused two deaths in the Dominican Republic. In Puerto Rico, one man was swept away by a swollen river. In Cuba, there was extensive coastal flooding and wind damage inland, destroying some 15,000 homes, killing 11, and causing $2 billion (2012 USD) in damage. Sandy caused two deaths and damage estimated at $700 million (2012 USD) in The Bahamas. In Canada, two were killed in Ontario and an estimated $100 million (2012 CAD) in damage was caused throughout Ontario and Quebec.[9]

In the United States, Hurricane Sandy affected 24 states, including the entire eastern seaboard from Florida to Maine and west across the Appalachian Mountains to Michigan and Wisconsin, with particularly severe damage in New Jersey and New York. Its storm surge hit New York City on October 29, flooding streets, tunnels and subway lines and cutting power in and around the city.[10][11] Damage in the United States amounted to $65 billion (2013 USD).[12]

Destructive Leadership: The Aftermath of the Tempest

A healthy leader–follower relationship relies on trust, respect, competency, and commitment to the organization. A leader has the power to influence and shape the employee’s job experience and the organizational culture. Destructive leaders, however, abuse their power by using coercion to manipulate for personal gain, and employ fear as a motivator. The negative impacts of a leader’s destructive behaviors are detrimental and painful to the followers in an organization, and the long-term impact on corporate culture can be costly. Followers are pivotal to the success of good and bad leaders. In Dr. Martin’s study on the Millennial generation as followers, she found they were adversely affected by destructive leaders. Specifically, they felt devalued, participated in unethical behavior induced by fear, lost faith in the organization because it implicitly condoned leaders’ bad behaviors, or chose to retaliate against these leaders. Destructive leadership will perpetuate until followers and organizations stop enabling the destructive behaviors and take action by educating, training, and empowering the workforce to be active participants.

“I allowed myself to suffer how jarringly destructive the present feels and how fragile the past.”

― Ann Brashares

No wonder the beaver is Canada's national symbol; it's everywhere. Not just on our coins and postage stamps, but you can't go to any forest without encountering at least some signs of their presence: beaver ponds, beaver dams, chewed up tree trunks. They're often regarded as a symbol of hard work, but their hard work is rather destructive, to put it mildly. This photo taken in the Gatineau Hills shows a typical beaver pond complete with the dead trees caused by flooding. The next two photos show what the beaver does with the trees that it needs to build the dam.

I guess I'm just venting my frustrations accumulated over many years of working as a geologist in the Canadian bush. I cannot count the times that I had to spend extra hours walking around these waterlogged areas to get to where I was supposed to be going. I recall one time when I had to wade - and ultimately swim - across one of these near the end of a tiring day. Not pleasant!

Lincoln is now a walking, grabbing, destructive machine. Since learning to walk he has taken on such a character, it really entertains me. His expressions, and attitude, are somewhat exaggerated as if he was taught to emote by Quentin Tarantino.

He still doesn't talk much, which is probably why he relies so heavily on body language. Often he grunts, points, or runs towards the thing he wants you to make a connection with. He can say lots of words, but his favorite is just to point and make a "uhng" sound.

On this particular afternoon I had taken him down the playground with his sister. We had been there about an hour, and he was done. He just walked right off the playground, passed me, pointed at the car and said "ungh". I asked "do you want to leave", he turned and started walking towards the car. There's a lot of his mother in him. :)

So we kicked the ball for a little while longer, then we were off for home. But in the moment like this, running around, playing, and feeling like I really get to be a dad to them versus their own personal life documentarian. That has come in part because of all the flexibility having a small point and shoot like the G15 offers me. Yes of course I'll still use my DSLRs to shoot, they aren't going away, but now I get moments of great images mixed with the sensation of being a very present dad.

Along with rich histories of storytelling, many of our Island communities have experienced the destructive effects of fires in their towns and villages. With many settlements being built of lumber, it was important to address fires as quickly as possible to prevent the flames from spreading. Before organized fire brigades, it was common for households to keep a bucket of water by the hearth and a ladder close at hand, in order to access roof tops and chimneys where fire was likely to break out.

What is remembered as the “Great Fire of Tignish” broke out in September 1896 and ripped through the town in less than three hours. The fire began in the town’s carriage shop and destroyed over 60 buildings including the community post office, general store, drug store, and two hotels. The historic St. Simon and St. Jude Church luckily avoided the flames and provided aid for more than a dozen families whose homes were destroyed. The fire caused $125,000.00 worth of damage (over $2 million today) of which only $35,000.00 was insured.

This calendar is a reproduction of a “fire mark” an early approach to fire insurance. The tradition began in the 17th century following the Great Fire of London in 1666 and spread to North America through colonization. A fire mark was attached to the exterior of a building to represent the company the building was insured under. Insurance companies were said to pay a retaining fee to the local fire brigade who then responded to nearby fires. Upon arrival, if the building in flames displayed the fire mark of that insurance company, the fire brigade was to promptly take action. If no fire mark was present, or if it was the fire mark for another insurance company, the brigade was under instruction not to act. In such circumstances, it is said that the occupier of the building would try and bargain with the brigade in order to buy their services and save their building.

Towards a modeling of World Competitiveness Cluster…

Can one to imagine that our World, in its global, is able a day go out of the crisis, in which it gets stuck everyday a little more?

The world economical crisis, the persistent social conflicts and the destructive revolutions to the other boils world, that sow only disorder, hate and violence, associated to the incoherence of the strategies adopted by the political ones, drive me to write this ticket.

=====================================================

Via io9 I found this remarkable Hubble shot of Tarantula Nebula, one of the most visible features of our Milky Way Galaxy's satellite galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud.

The Tarantula Nebula (also known as 30 Doradus, or NGC 2070) is an H II region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. It was originally thought to be a star [hence the Flamsteed name 30 Doradus], but in 1751 Nicolas Louis de Lacaille recognized its nebular nature.

The Tarantula Nebula has an apparent magnitude of 8. Considering its distance of about 49 kpc(160,000 light years), this is an extremely luminous non-stellar object. Its luminosity is so great that if it were as close to Earth as the Orion Nebula, the Tarantula Nebula would cast shadows. In fact, it is the most active starburst region known in the Local Group of galaxies. It is also the largest such region in the Local Group with an estimated diameter of 200 pc. The nebula resides on the leading edge of the LMC, where ram pressure stripping, and the compression of the interstellar medium likely resulting from this, is at a maximum. At its core lies the compact star cluster R136 (approx diameter 35 light years)[4] that produces most of the energy that makes the nebula visible. The estimated mass of the cluster is 450,000 solar masses, suggesting it will likely become a globular cluster in the future.

[. . .]

The closest supernova observed since the invention of the telescope, Supernova 1987A, occurred in the outskirts of the Tarantula Nebula.

I also touched on briefly last summer on the discovery of the most massive star to date, blue hypergiant R136a1 with the mass of 265 Sols.

All of this is here.

Aftermath refers to what is left behind after an event, especially a destructive event, or an extinction. The artists in this exhibition work with ideas of organic life, nature, place, the body, and ritual. Some of the work in this exhibition explores the relationship between people and nature, and between what it means to be human and what it means to be animal. Others may relate to ritual and the body, to our physicality and our animal nature, suggesting that we are perhaps not so far removed from our animal origins as we often suppose, as attested to by recurrent myths of lycanthropy (werewolves), and true stories of feral children. Participating artists include Melika Bass, Sarah Belknap + Joseph Belknap, Gwynne Johnson, Jenny Kendler, Homa Shojaie and Amber Hawk Swanson. Aftermath runs November 4-December 2, 2011 with an opening reception on November 4th from 6-9pm.

About the Curators:

Aftermath (Nov) and Artifact (Dec) are co-curated by the husband-and-wife team of Jeriah Hildwine and Stephanie Burke. Jeriah (MFA 2007, MICA) is a painter, with an exhibition scheduled for February 2012 at Linda Warren Gallery; he also teaches at several colleges and art centers, and writes for Art Pulse, Art Talk Chicago, Bad at Sports and Chicago Art Magazine. Stephanie (MFA 2009, SAIC) makes work, teaches, writes for Bad at Sports, and is Editor-in-Chief of Art Talk Chicago. When not making, teaching, curating, looking at, or writing about art, they enjoy camping, target shooting, and spending time with their pet ball python, Snake.

About my pictures:

Since 2014 I've been documenting the daily, destructive, poisonous chemtrail activity in the Dayton, Ohio area -- home of the notorious Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (visited by every important person on Earth, and even a few Aliens ;-) -- and apparently from my photo and video documentation, Chemtrail Central. This area has been getting chemtrailed on a massive, daily basis and is being conducted, as they say, “in plain sight”. I've got over 10,000 high-resolution pictures already uploaded and available for free on Flickr, with thousands more on the way:

The Intacom programme is a series of projects based on the development of robotic inspection systems that is being led by TWI’s Advanced Non-destructive Testing Centre in Port Talbot, South Wales. The programme’s overall aim is to reduce the cost of inspection of complex geometry components for the aerospace industry. The first phases of the project delivered a prototype automated inspection cell using two 6-axis robot arms to inspect highly curved components in a fraction of the time usually taken by other automated NDT systems. It incorporated custom developed advanced ultrasonic testing technology to provide 3D imaging of parts that, in many cases, could not be inspected in any other way.

IGAD is the most destructive organization keeping Somali anarchy to continue. IGAD is a tool used by Ethiopia to destroy the Somali nation.

The world should know that Somali problem would have been very easy to solve if IGAD wouldn't have given a mandate to ETHIOPIA to make Somalia its playground. MELES will again invade SOMALIA soon under the pretext of protecting AMISOM troops.

Ragtag SHABABS are being supplied and supported by ETHIOPIA since its sole interest is to keep dismantling Somali nation, demoralizing Somali people, and radicalizing some portion of Somali society to put them against others. As long as Shabab's most destructive activities will fall upon Somalia, Ethiopia must stand with them now.

Poor Somalis, they are neither full African nor full Arabs. Somalis, the step-children of Africa, are being destroyed daily by Ethiopian new empire led by Meles with the support of new-colonial forces that has always been on the Abyssinian side.

Somalia's doomful destiny is what is in store for all the Arab nations that are stable today. Today is Somalia;tomorrow another Arab nation.

The incredibly destructive Ultimate Chewing Monster stands near Mount Laundry, with only Godzilla to defend it! Oh, how can our mighty Big Green Lizard withstand the insatiable jaws of the beast????????????

(By being put back on the high shelf, I think.)

With Heroin being a very destructive drug, I took great care to be sure that it was as clear about its dangers as it was cleanly presented. The word ‘warning’ appears in large, red, all capped letters which wrap around four edges of the box. The warnings are also able to repeat themselves without interruption once several boxes are stacked upon on another. They also lead into the warning information which is large and displayed on the back.

The package contains a small syringe, which would hold only one dose, and the surgical tubing that is used to block the blood flow while injecting. All of this is meant to be used once and easily disposed of to discourage the sharing of needles. The needle is intentionally small so that dosage can be somewhat limited, therefore overdosing somewhat prevented.

"Constructive Destruction"

Waves approach the shore from different angles, and therefore have differing path lengths. This causes waves to interact both constructively and destructively at different points in accordance with the superposition principle. This principle states that two waves traveling through the same medium at the same time pass through each other without being disturbed. The net amplitude of interacting waves is simply the summation of the amplitudes of each individual wave at any given point in their interference. Constructive interference causes an increase in wave height. This type of interference occurs when waves overlap at whole number intervals. Destructive interference causes a decrease in wave height, or a trough. This type of interference occurs when waves overlap at half number intervals. In the picture, one can see alternating crests and troughs caused by the interaction of the waves.

He's doubled in size but is still sweet and cuddly, and destructive :) He looks a bit demented in this picture too.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Simba has been missing since March 2010 and hasn't returned, I don't know what's happened to him - but all I can hope that he is safe and happy, and maybe one day he'll return. I miss him so much

The destructive efforts of mindless knobheads are bad enough to bear when you run a commercial business, but, when as seen here, the work of stretched volunteers is nullified and regressed, it seems worse.

After my visit to Epping station, and with no enforced return time, I set out to drive to the far terminus of the proposed preserved line at Ongar. Due I suppose to the time of year, the station was closed but I got out of the car never the less to have a look at what was on show. On the station frontage I came across this sight, a tin of BR blue paint had been thrown through the Station Master's office window (not sure from which side) and coated a desk, chair, window cill, various bits of equipment and a phone. The paint was still quite wet and had a very fresh smell to it leaving me to presume it had recently happened.

Going off a a tangent, the last time I passed this location it seemed to stand in splendid isolation. I was surprised to find yesterday that it had been built up around and about with new tall houses ... the scope now for prospective residents to complain about the surprise of finding noisy trains running again will sadly be immense.

US Civil War 150th anniversary: How US remains divided

The US is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the country's most destructive conflict, the Civil War. In Charleston in the state of South Carolina, where the war erupted, the BBC's Paul Adams says Americans remain divided over the roots of the conflict to this day. . . . This is a piece of painful history which continues to rankle.

Civil War re-enactments bring together enthusiasts from across the country. The war lasted four years, claiming the lives of more than 600,000 soldiers and an unknown number of civilians. The South was defeated and slavery outlawed.

"It is more politically charged in deep-rooted Southern states," said Shane Miles, who played a Union colonel in distinctive peaked cap and blue uniform.

Some re-enactors are happy to put on either uniform, but others will only ever play one side. "There are still some people want to re-fight the Civil War," he said, as units of infantry exchanged volleys of rifle fire and Union cannon boomed out across Johns Island, setting off nearby car alarms. Mr Miles, a native of Tennessee, said many Southerners felt like "second-class citizens in their own country", a condition he attributed to the outcome of America's most devastating war.

Some of those looking on at the re-enactment expressed similar sentiments: that the South paid a heavy price for its desire to go it alone and that only one - Northern - version of history persists.

"I think today it's portrayed as being a controversy over class and racism and I don't think that's true," said visitor Sylvia Daniel. "Actually the cause was individual states' rights."

It's a familiar argument, but insufficient to explain the conflict's roots, said historian Bernard Powers of the College of Charleston. "You have to go further and ask what states' rights were being violated?" What the Southern states wanted, he said, was to preserve every aspect of a society which had slavery at its heart. "No-one who existed at that time would have dared deny that," he said.

But a Harris Interactive poll in January found that 54% of Americans believe the South was fighting for states' rights rather than to preserve slavery, with 69% believing the North was fighting to preserve the Union rather than to abolish the institution.

The disagreement persists, despite Abraham Lincoln's observation, in his inaugural address of 1861, that slavery was "the only substantial dispute".

So divided do Americans remain about the causes and effects of this epic conflict that Time Magazine's April edition features a weeping Lincoln on its front cover, with the headline "Why We're Still Fighting the Civil War".

The rangers on duty at the place where the war began, in the early hours of 12 April, 1861, know only too well how the war's origins can still inflame passions. "People still get very emotional," said park ranger Nate Johnson, who added some visitors take issue with the notion that slavery was the root cause of the war.

"Slavery and states' rights are inexorably intertwined," said Mr Johnson, who hails from Wisconsin and is sometimes called a Yankee. Back in Charleston, by a monument to the Confederates who defended the city to the war's bitter end, an academic with an alternative take on the causes of the war argues that the Confederates were motivated by true American ideals.

"Southerners were of the opinion they were defending the Constitution... against a brutal, materialistic invasion force from the North," said David Aiken, a professor of literature at the College of Charleston and a founding member of the League of the South, which advocates Southern independence.

One hundred and fifty years after the desire to secede triggered a conflagration, Mr Aiken says the idea is not dead. "What's your greatest value?" he asked. "Unity or liberty?"

The parallels with the America of 2011 are clear. At Tea Party meetings across the country, states' rights is a rebel yell among many who see today's government as overweening and rapacious.

At the Charleston Mercury, a strident mouthpiece for plantation owners at the time of the war, publisher Charles Waring said he wants to "tell our side of the story, come hell or high water". His anniversary edition features a pair of contrasting essays on the causes of the war, but Mr Waring suggested the South paid a heavy price. "We have stories in our families about Yankees who burned our plantations, stole our silver, raped our women," he said.

Historian Bernard Powers, who specialises in African-American history, said it's not hard to understand where these sentiments come from. "There was something that deeply embedded the Civil War into the mentality of the South, because the South lost," he said on a tour of nearby Boone Hall Plantation, where slave quarters have been restored.

"I think the South is a region that demonstrates... the truth of William Faulkner's statement: The past is not dead. It's not even over."

As we are gradually approaching the 10th anniversary of Etna's dramatic and destructive 27 October 2002 eruption, I continue posting images of places that disappeared during that eruption, foremost the lovely Piano Provenzana, a tourist station on Etna's northeast flank. Located in the middle of the "Ragabo" pine forest at an altitude of about 1800 m, Piano Provenzana was the secret "insider tip" among Etna visitors and locals, the greener, less crowded of the two tourist pools on the volcano. From this place, visitors were transported in 4WD buses (seen at left and extreme right in this photo) to the summit area of the volcano. I often descended from Etna's summit craters on the 12-km long dirt road to Piano Provenzana, often after passing hours in thin air filled with dust and volcanic gas. Always when I finally entered into the bar of the hotel "Le Betulle", which is seen in this image, I was first given a big, cold beer, a service that could not have been more perfect.

My last visit to Piano Provenzana before everything changed was in the first week of October 2002. A few days earlier, a sharp earthquake had occurred not far from Piano Provenzana, along the Pernicana fault, which had frequently ruptured in the 1980s. Since 1988, though, the Pernicana had been locked and the northeast flank of Etna had been rather quiet. The last eruption on the nearby "Northeast Rift" had occurred in 1947. Sometimes in the previous months and years I had thought that this had been quite a long period of silence in one of the most volcanically and seismically active areas of Etna.

The Pernicana earthquake of 22 September 2002 was not very strong (magnitude 3.6), but it occurred immediately below the surface and thus was strongly felt nearby. A road crossing the fault was spectacularly fractured, and traffic had to be limited to the less damaged lane of the road. Nothing much had happened since, except that the Northeast Crater, which had been mildly erupting since July 2002, had fallen silent. Ominously silent, one would say in hindsight. A few more weeks had to pass, and then everything changed.

Highly destructive to the Lily, but just had to leave him be, as he's so "In Love" with this leaf!

However, this area isn’t special in that regard. The massive chemtrailing is going on across the USA (and other countries), as evidenced in abundance on FlickR and many other sites. This incredible not-so-secret Government program, which itself is expensive and dangerous, spoils not only blue skies, but poisons our air, water and soil to unknown levels. Regardless of the purpose, weather control/weather as a weapon/mind control, it really amounts to a crime against humanity in my opinion.

Our power company said it was the most destructive storm in 20 years. We have never before had a full-blown nor'easter when leaves were still on the trees. Winds weren't high, but there were over 900 power lines down just in our little river valley.

The left and center frames are two sections of our 500-foot driveway after the storm. Our drive, the vestige of an old wagon road, was bounded by a graceful colonnade of 40-foot oaks. The tops are out of several of them, and their fate is uncertain. We will seek the advice of an arborist.

The right frame shows the driveway after we spent all day chainsawing and dragging branches away. We made it out to the road just at sunset.

We have had trees blown down before, and some of their replacements are now of imposing size and surpassing beauty themselves. It's to be expected that living things come and go. I am reminded of something that artist and master gardener Mistress of Longears once said. "People often ask me about plants that have died. I tell them that we are all going to die."

That being the case, I compose a gratitude list when I work on a sad job like this one. I'm grateful that we live where we do and that we are far enough back from the road that it can take a whole day to get out. We are most fortunate to live in such a beautiful countryside.

I'm grateful that all the animals here (including us) made it through the storm with only a little chill and discomfort.

I'm grateful that the utility company restored our power so quickly. There are whole towns near here that are still without electricity.

I'm especially grateful that we had no injuries. A friend here is in the hospital with a broken back after a tree fell on her while she was cleaning up after the storm. The doctors say she will recover fully, and for that I'm grateful as well.

I correctly forecast single costliest natural disaster ever world wide in great detail.

On the evening of June 15, 1896, the northeast coast of Hondo, the main island of Japan, was struck by a great earthquake wave (tsunami), which was more destructive of life and property than any earthquake convulsion of this century in that empire. The whole coastline of the San-Riku, the three provinces of Rikuzen, Rikuchu, and Rikuoku, from the island of Kinkwazan, 38° 20' north, northward for 175 miles, was laid waste by a great wave moving from the east and south, that varied in recorded height from 10 to 50 feet. A few survivors, who saw it advancing in the darkness, report its height as 80 to 100 feet. With a difference of but thirty minutes in time between the southern and northern points, it struck the San-Riku coast and in a trice obliterated towns and villages, killed 26,975 people out of the original population, and grievously wounded the 5,390 survivors. It washed away and wrecked 9,313 houses, stranded some 300 larger craft—steamers, schooners, and junks—and crushed or carried away 10,000 fishing boats, destroying property to the value of six million yen. Thousands of acres of arable land were turned to wastes, projecting rocks offshore were broken, overturned, or moved hundreds of yards, shallows and bars were formed, and in some localities the entire shoreline was changed.

They were all seafaring communities along this coast strip and the fisheries were the chief industry. The shipment of sea products to the great ports was the main connection with the outer world. A high mountain range bars communication with the trunk railway line of the island, and this picturesque, fiord-cut coast is so remote and so isolated that only two foreigners had been seen in the region in ten years, with the exception of the French mission priest, Father Raspail, who lost his life in the flood. With telegraph offices, instruments, and operators carried away, word came slowly to Tokyo, and with 50 to 100 miles of mountain roads between the nearest railway station and the seacoast aid was long in reaching the wretched survivors. When adequate idea of the calamity reached the capital and the cities, men-of-war, soldiers, sappers, surgeons, and nurses were quickly dispatched, and public sympathy found expression in contributions through the different newspapers, amounting to more than 250,000 yen, for the relief of the injured. The Japanese journalist and photographer were quickly on their way, and the vernacular press soon fed the public full of horrors, yet the first to reach the scene of the disaster was an American missionary, the Rev. Rothesay Miller, who made the usual three days' trip over the mountains in less than a day and a half on his American bicycle.

There were old traditions of such earthquake waves on this coast, one of two centuries ago doing some damage, and a tsunami of forty years ago and a lesser one of 1892 flooding the streets of Kamaishi and driving people to upper floors and the roofs of their houses. The barometer gave no warning, no indication of any unusual conditions on June 15, and the occurrence of thirteen light earthquake shocks during the day excited no comment. Rain had fallen in the morning and afternoon, and with a temperature of 80° to 90° the damp atmosphere was very oppressive. The villagers on that remote coast adhered to the old calendar in observing their local fêtes and holidays, and on that fifth day of the fifth moon had been celebrating the Girls' Festival. Rain had driven them indoors with the darkness, and nearly all were in their houses at eight o'clock, when, with a rumbling as of heavy cannonading out at sea, a roar, and the crash and crackling of timbers, they were suddenly engulfed in the swirling waters. Only a few survivors on all that length of coast saw the advancing wave, one of them telling that the water first receded some 600 yards from ghastly white sands and then the Wave stood like a black wall 80 feet in height, with phosphorescent lights gleaming along its crest. Others, hearing a distant roar, saw a dark shadow seaward and ran to high ground, crying "Tsunami! tsunami!" Some who ran to the upper stories of their houses for safety were drowned, crushed, or imprisoned there, only a few breaking through the roofs or escaping after the water subsided.

Shallow water and outlying islands broke the force of the wave in some places, and in long, narrow inlets or fiords the giant roller was broken into two, three, and even six waves, that crashed upon the shore in succession. Ships and junks were carried one and two miles inland, left on hilltops, treetops, and in the midst of fields uninjured or mixed up with the ruins of houses, the rest engulfed or swept seaward. Where the wave entered a fiord or bay it bore everything along to the head of the ravine or valley and left the mass of debris in a heap at the end. Where the coast was low and faced the open ocean the wave washed in and, retreating, carried everything back with it. Many survivors, swept away by the waters, were cast ashore on outlying islands, or seized bits of wreckage and kept afloat. On the open coast the wave came and withdrew within five minutes, while in long inlets the waters boiled and surged for nearly a half hour before subsiding. The best swimmers were helpless in the first swirl of water, and nearly all the bodies recovered were frightfully battered and mutilated, rolled over and driven against rocks, struck by and crushed between timbers. The force of the wave cut down groves of large pine trees to short stumps, snapped thick granite posts of temple gates and carried the stone cross-beams 309 yards away. Many people were lost through running back to save others or to save their valuables.

One loyal schoolmaster carried the emperor's portrait to a place of safety before seeking out his own family. A half-demented soldier, retired since the late war and continually brooding on a possible attack by the enemy, became convinced that the first cannonading sound was from a hostile fleet, and, seizing his sword, ran down to the beach to meet the foe. One village officer, mistaking the sound of crashing timbers for crackling flames, ran to high ground to see where the fire was, and thus saved his life. Another village officer, living on the edge of a hill, heard the crash and slid his screens open to look upon foaming waters nearly level with his veranda. In a moment the waters disappeared, leaving a black, empty level where the populous village had been a few minutes before. Four women clung to one man, seeking to escape to high ground, and their combined weight resisting the force of the receding wave they were all saved. The only survivors of another village were eight men who had been playing the game of "go" in a hillside temple. Eight children floated away and left on high ground were believed to be the only survivors of one village, until one hundred people were found who had been borne across and stranded on the opposite shores of their bay. One hundred and fifty people were found cast away on one island offshore. From two large villages on one bay only thirty young men survived, hardy, muscular young fishermen and powerful swimmers, yet in other places the strongest perished, and the aged and infirm, cripples, and tiny children were miraculously preserved. The wave flooded the cells of Okachi prison and the jailers broke the bolts and let the 195 convicts free. Only two convicts attempted to escape, the others waiting in good order until marched to the high ground by their keepers. The good Père Raspail had just reached Kamaishi from his all-day walk of 50 miles over the mountains and entered his inn, when his assistant called to him from the street. The priest came to the veranda, but in an instant the water was upon him. He was seen later, swimming, but evidently was struck by timbers or swept out to sea, as his body has not been recovered. Japanese men-of-war cruised for a week off Kamaishi, recovering bodies daily. The Japanese system of census enumeration is so complete and minute that the name of every person who lost his life was soon known, and the Official Gazette was able to state that out of a population of 6,529 at Kamaishi 4,985 were lost and 500 injured, while 953 dwellings and 867 warehouses and other structures were destroyed or carried away, and 176 ships carried inland or swept out and lost.

The survivors were so stunned with the appalling disaster that few could do anything for themselves or others. With houses, nets, and fishing-boats carried away and the fish retreating to further and deeper waters, starvation faced them, and, the great heat continuing while so many bodies were strewn along shore and imprisoned in ruins, the atmosphere fast became poisonous. The north-coast people are opposed to cremation and insisted on earth burial, which delayed the disposal of the dead and augmented the danger of pestilence. Disinfectants were sent in quantity, and the work of recovery and burial was so pressing that soldiers were put to it after all available coolies had been impressed. The Red Cross Society, with its hospitals and nurses, had difficulty in caring for all the wounded, the greater number of whom, besides requiring surgical aid, were suffering from pneumonia and internal inflammations consequent upon their long exposure in wet clothing without shelter and from the brine, fish oil, and sand breathed in and swallowed while in the first tumult of waters. Besides the generous relief fund subscribed by the people, the government has made large assignments from its available funds and sent stores of provisions, clothing, tools, etc., to the 60,000 homeless, ruined, bereaved, and starving people of the San-Riku coast.

The wave was plainly felt two hours later on the shores of the island of Yesso, 200 miles north of the center of disturbance on the San-Riku coast, the water advancing 80 feet beyond high-tide mark on the beach at Hakodate. Eight hours later there was a great disturbance of the waters on the shores of the Bonin islands, more than 700 miles southward, the water rising three or four feet and retreating violently. Six hours later, on the shores of Kaui, the most northern of the Hawaiian islands, distant 3,390 miles, the waters receded violently and washed on shore in a wave some inches above the normal height.

The plainest inference has been that the great wave was the result of an eruption, explosion, or other disturbance in the bed of the sea, 500 or 600 miles off the San-Riku coast. The most popular theory is that it resulted from the caving-in of some part of the wall or bed of the great "Tuscarora Deep," one of the greatest depressions of the ocean bed in the world, discovered in 1874 by the present Rear-Admiral Belknap, U. S. N., while in command of the U. S. S. Tuscarora, engaged in deep-sea surveys.

The "Tuscarora Deep" is nearly five and one-third statute miles in depth, being exceeded, so far as known, only by the still more profound depths discovered last year in the South Pacific by Commander A. F. Balfour, of the British Navy.

That disturbances were taking place in this tremendous abyss was again suggested at six o'clock on the morning of July 4, when the Canadian Pacific Railway Company's mail steamer Empress of Japan, sailing directly over it in a smooth sea, was shaken as if a propeller blade had been lost or the ship had struck an obstruction. Every one was roused by the peculiar shock, but no visible explanation was furnished. The destructive wave and this incident together should stimulate further investigation of this dangerous, bottomless pit of the Pacific ocean, which owes its discovery to United States explorers by deep-sea soundings.
