It was a special moment on the rooftop of the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles as BMW M Motorsport introduced the world to their latest racing outlier, the BMW M Hybrid V8. It's daring, futuristic, powerful, high-tech, revolutionary, and fast! Presented in traditional BMW M hues representing the avant-garde livery, the prototype will compete in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2023. Principal drivers for the two BMW M Team RLL cars include Connor De Phillippi, Philipp Eng, Augusto Farfus, and Nick Yelloly. In addition, Colton Herta of the IndyCar series will offer his experience and support.

We’re back on campus for the 25th Anniversary of the MCAD Art Sale—one of the most beloved destinations for affordable, appreciable artwork by emerging artists who are creating not only what’s new, but what’s next.

Celebrating MCAD students, alumni, and the wider college community, the Art Sale is a tradition that has generated more than $3 million for emerging artists. This year, in honor of the 25th Anniversary, the sale will feature expanded participation by alumni from the last 25 years along with current students and recent graduates.

As always, the MCAD Art Sale is your chance to buy one-of-a-kind creations. Thousands of original artworks will be available in a diverse range of mediums—including paintings, prints, photographs, sculpture, furniture, clothing, jewelry, accessories, and more. Following a commitment to supporting students and alumni, 80% of all sales go directly to the artist.

Not content with building the "Worlds Best Driving Machine" BMW has turned its attention to Racing Wheelchairs and using its expertise in design and engineering has worked closely with US Paralympics Track and Field Team athletes and coaches to develop the carbon fibre racing wheelchair that will make its competitive debut at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games.

“Working on this project has been a truly rewarding experience for my team and we’re proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in the last year and half with these athletes and their coaches,” said Brad Cracchiola, Associate Director, BMW Group DesignWorks. “From fittings and immersion sessions, to data analysis and real-time testing, we had the unique opportunity to build a fully customized racing device. We’re eager to complete the final product and look forward to watching Team USA compete.” “Our partnership with Team USA over the last six years has been a remarkable journey, but the most rewarding part of it all has been the direct collaboration with our athletes,” said Trudy Hardy, Vice President, Marketing, BMW of North America. “Their dedication to their sport and their fans is unprecedented, and as a company dedicated to performance and mobility, this has been a project that felt right at home for us and we’re honored to be part of it.”

With the help of Team USA athletes, BMW will work over the next few months to continue to adjust and improve the wheelchair in the lead up to the Games. The final fleet of wheelchairs for use in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is slated to be delivered to the U.S. Paralympics track and field racers in the summer of 2016.
