Depth of field. I shot this in aperture priority mode to produce a really shallow depth of field. I wanted to make it so the furthest tiles were barely readable. I set this shot up to show how our brains interpret the right thing even when our eyes are not 100 percent reliable. I wonder how many people will notice the deliberate mistake.

Witham, Essex, England - 7th May, 2023

A small, summer shower had just come through and then the sun came back out. This combined to give this look in to the small world in our back yard.

We have a fireplace in our living room with very pretty scrollwork, and every day, I watch how the light changes on that scrollwork. We've had very flat light lately - two straight weeks of clouds and measurable rain - but I thought the subtlety of the clouded light would be a good place to start with a macro of the scrollwork. No doubt you'll be seeing photos of my mantlepiece again.

In all my years of seeing brown ducks in this part of the world, I've not seen one this light. She's a beauty! This photo is nearly SOOC. I adjusted the clarity and moved the brightness up a smidge and that was it.

These pretty little Diascia flowers are still clinging on!

Thanks for all the lovely comments and faves on my images and I hope you all have a great weekend.

The weather has been awful this weekend, cold, grey and wet so I haven't been down the road to see how the bluebells are doing! Instead here's a bluebell shot from last year! The colour is a bit crazy but I've actually desaturated it a bit!

Many thanks for all the lovely comments and faves on my images :)

I wait for the sand cherries every year. Every year it is hard to get a good shot. Or a more DoF shot. They are always moving in the subtle breeze.

Happy Saturday

Extreme close-up candid from Glasgow, Scotland. I loved the back lighting and rim-lit hair with his salt and pepper facial hair - and his 'well seasoned' look. Perfect for black and white. Best viewed large by pressing 'L' or clicking on the image. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.

I can practically hear her reminding him that she had said not to wear that shirt! Enjoy this previously unpublished shot from August 2017!
