Charles Demuth (1883-1935) was one of the leading artists during the American Modernism era. He was distinguished for intimate watercolors and cubic architectural paintings. Demuth studied art at Académie Julian in Paris, where he was welcomed into the avant-garde art scene and met other American Cubism artists like Marsden Hartley. His watercolor figures have a weightless and surrealistic character with a sensitive linear style, in which he illustrated plays and novels such as Émile Zola's Nana. He also depicted an evolving gay scene of encounters at bath houses through watercolors for his close friends, like the "Turkish Bath", works that now are of great historical significance. Demuth later employed a cubist technique by painting industrial factories with complex structural planes, leading him to becoming a pioneer for the precisionist movement. We have digitally enhanced some of his Bermuda landscapes, flowers, circus performers, and his most famous artwork “The Figure 5 in Gold”. They are free to download and to be used under the CC0 license.

Today's We're Here challenge: A day in the Park. I had planed to just visit one of the local parks, but ended up driving by a few...
I drove through Demuth Park and saw a Dog Park and Ball Park.
It was nice seeing people playing ball...it felt so natural! I even got to throw a foul ball back to the players.

Today's We're Here Challenge: Kids...between 0-100
I made this challenge to the group and had a big plan for me on playground equipment. I jumped into the car and went to Ruth Hardy Park to use their, playground...who would have thought children would be playing there?!? LOL I didn't think parents would want a 69 year old climbing on the monkey bars with their kids..so I headed to Victoria Park...MORE CHILDREN!! My last hope was Demuth Park...no luck. I headed home trying to come up with a new plan and color caught my eye in a non-gated community. I investigated and found they had a playground. I parked and headed to the playgrounds. Nobody was in the courtyard...or near the playground. I hurried to it, took 3 photos and walked back to my car. What a day!

The movie theater at the Stonefield shopping center in Charlottesville, VA. It was a somewhat boring view of a somewhat boring building, so I decided to take a different approach than usual. I had just been looking at Charles Demuth's Cubist styled watercolors and thought that that might work here.
