painted by friend and neighbor Roger Demuth

While running errands this afternoon, as I drove through Demuth Park, I found the 3 Palm Springs Noodles next to the Senior Center. I stopped and took a few photos.

When Darek got home this evening we loaded the furbys into the car and took them to the Vet IQ in La Quinta for their canine influenza shots.

Charles Demuth (1883-1935) was one of the leading artists during the American Modernism era. He was distinguished for intimate watercolors and cubic architectural paintings. Demuth studied art at Académie Julian in Paris, where he was welcomed into the avant-garde art scene and met other American Cubism artists like Marsden Hartley. His watercolor figures have a weightless and surrealistic character with a sensitive linear style, in which he illustrated plays and novels such as Émile Zola's Nana. He also depicted an evolving gay scene of encounters at bath houses through watercolors for his close friends, like the "Turkish Bath", works that now are of great historical significance. Demuth later employed a cubist technique by painting industrial factories with complex structural planes, leading him to becoming a pioneer for the precisionist movement. We have digitally enhanced some of his Bermuda landscapes, flowers, circus performers, and his most famous artwork “The Figure 5 in Gold”. They are free to download and to be used under the CC0 license.

The General Staff Building (Russian: Здание Главного штаба, Zdanie Glavnogo Shtaba) is an edifice with a 580 m long bow-shaped facade, situated on Palace Square in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in front of the Winter Palace.

The monumental Neoclassical building was designed by Carlo Rossi in the Empire style and built in 1819–1829. It consists of two wings, which are separated by a tripartite triumphal arch adorned by sculptors Stepan Pimenov and Vasily Demuth-Malinovsky and commemorating the Russian victory over Napoleonic France in the Patriotic War of 1812. The arch links Palace Square through Bolshaya Morskaya Street to Nevsky Prospekt.

Until the capital was transferred to Moscow in 1918, the building served as the headquarters of the General Staff (western wing), Foreign Ministry and Finance Ministry (eastern wing).

The western wing now hosts the headquarters of the Leningrad Military District. The eastern wing was given to the Hermitage Museum in 1993 and was extensively remodeled inside.

Today's We're Here Challenge: Kids...between 0-100

I made this challenge to the group and had a big plan for me on playground equipment. I jumped into the car and went to Ruth Hardy Park to use their, playground...who would have thought children would be playing there?!? LOL I didn't think parents would want a 69 year old climbing on the monkey bars with their kids..so I headed to Victoria Park...MORE CHILDREN!! My last hope was Demuth Park...no luck. I headed home trying to come up with a new plan and color caught my eye in a non-gated community. I investigated and found they had a playground. I parked and headed to the playgrounds. Nobody was in the courtyard...or near the playground. I hurried to it, took 3 photos and walked back to my car. What a day!

Charles Demuth American 1883 - 1935

Jazz, 1921

Oil on canvas

In this work, Charles Demuth used flat, bright patterns, zigzags, and swirls of color to give visual form to the energy and rhythms of jazz. However, the composition is not completely abstract. Some forms and patter(n)s (sic) reference identifiable objects, such as the black-and-white stripes that suggest a piano keyboard and the blue fretted shapes that look like banjo tuners or the holes of a woodwind instrument.
