A most iconic image of Arches National Park. It was already crowded this afternoon, and wasn't even May yet.
Delicate profiles stand out in the silence of the evening, in a play of decreasing light, soft colors, and ephemeral floating clouds.

i'm sad to say i have something along the lines of the stomach flu. miraculously, i've kept everything down...if you know what i mean. which im grateful for. just stomach aches all day. so ive had the grandma diet. soup. 7up and baked potatoes.
i woke up at 4am with the chills! it was so weird...shaking almost uncontrollably.
i'm not sure how long this will last, so im i miss a day i hope you understand. ill catch up!

It's quite the scene at this iconic location even in November. The first day I was here there was a wedding ceremony under the arch and the 2nd a proposal!

I'm getting on a National Park fix with the Yosemite trip nearing, so I decided to break into the archive and edit some shots from the previous parks that I have visited.
When we visited Arches it was almost an after thought. We spent the night in Canyonlands, and since we were so close we had to see Arches as well. We didn't have much time to spend, and it was very hot, but we did the short hike to Delicate Arch. I'm glad we saw it, but next time I would like to spend more time here hiking and photographing this beautiful park.

Delicate Arch as viewed from the longer, more strenuous hike to reach the arch itself with the LaSal Mountains as a backdrop....and yes, I did remove all the touristas as they detracted from the beauty of the scene; LOL!!!! Edward Abbey offers a pretty interesting way of describing this natural phenomenon.....

Depending on your preconceptions you may see the eroded remnants of a sandstone fin, a giant engagement ring cemented in rock, a bow-legged pair of petrified cowboy chaps, a triumphal arch for a procession of angels, an illogical freak, a happening.... If Delicate Arch has any significance it lies, I will venture, in the power of the odd and unexpected to startle the senses and surprise the mind out of their ruts of habit, to compel us into a reawakened awareness of the wonderful-that which is full of wonder."

I found this delicate flower on a hiking tour through a beautiful mountain forest in the austrian alps
I was going through several thousand photos today from the past year or so and came across this very intriguing shot of rime ice we had one morning last December. Everything outside was completely enveloped, creating a surreal effect... the needles were almost an inch long but extremely fragile! One touch- you couldn't help yourself- and they simply fell off their mount. Later that morning the air was filled with the delicate tinkle of millions of these tiny ice needles falling to the ground... I've never experienced anything else quite like this!
Life is a delicate and often precarious balance - trying to stay afloat despite moments and events that might otherwise pull us down. Holding on is sometimes the ultimate test of strength.
I am going to be forever mad at myself for deleting this image off my flickr a few years ago.
I shot this image a few years ago when I first exploring conceptual photography. I love the simplicity it captures.

The city of Toledo was made entirely of delicate glass. Everyday life was a dance of precision and care. The streets were paved with glass, and the buildings soared high into the sky, gleaming in the morning sunlight. Even the people were made of a glass-like material, rendering them translucent and fragile.
The inhabitants of the city went about their daily routines with practiced ease, stepping delicately and handling objects with care. They marveled at the intricate patterns of light that danced through the glass structures, casting shimmering rainbows across their world.
One day, a visiting opera singer arrived in the city. The diva, renowned for her powerful voice, stepped onto the stage and began to perform an aria.
As she sang, the glass people and buildings around her began to shatter into a million glittering fragments. The sound waves from her voice were too much for the delicate glass structures to bear.
The singer, oblivious to the destruction she had wrought, continued to perform, her voice rising in power and volume. Piles of colored glass fragments lay all around her, a stark testament to the devastation of her performance.
The people of the city were stunned, and many perished in the wake of the singer's powerful voice. The city that had once been a marvel of glass and light was reduced to a pile of broken fragments.
But still, the singer continued to sing, her voice ringing out across the shattered city. In the end, she was the only one left, standing in the midst of the ruin, singing out into the empty sky.
And the city of glass was no more, reduced to a memory of fragility and beauty, shattered by the power of a single voice.

Often regarded as the most beautiful arch in the world, Delicate Arch stands 65 feet (20m) above the steep sandstone formations below. Delicate Arch is the most recognizable feature of Arches National Park and is an icon of the state of Utah. The Delicate Arch was formed from Entrada Sandstone which was gradually worn away by weathering and wind erosion over millions of years. Delicate Arch is accessible through a moderate 1.5 mile (2.4km) hike up steep slickrock and around narrow rock ledges. On the horizon lies the snow-capped La Sal Mountains which contrasts the deep colors of the surrounding Entrada Sandstone.

I'm still trying to get all of my Utah trip pictures up. Another from Arches National Park. I like them all. Summer is a busy time though. Glad I was able to camp before it got too hot.
I'm still in awe every time I look at these shots. Our timing could not have been better. I'll probably never see it that good again.

Delicate arch right after sunset. The atmosphere was actually quite incredible there. A few people were sitting on the edge of this natural amphitheater to watch the sun go down on the horizon. You can see one of them there taking a picture. It gives a sense of scale I think.
