"We might kiss when we are alone

When nobody's watching

We might take it home

We might make out when nobody's there

It's not that we're scared

It's just that it's delicate"

ODC Our Daily Challenge: Delicate

Arches National Park, Utah

Part in shadow, part in sun, Delicate Arch rises a masterwork among an almost alien landscape of wonders late on a summer evening, in Arches National Park, near Moab, Utah.

This is a long exposure using a Singh-Ray 10-Stop filter, and embracing all the warming effect that filter can provide (with some more in post since I was having fun with this one) coupled with the beautiful natural light as sunset neared. I really like this image extra warm, and left the sky overexposed a bit here too, because those attributes to me accentuate the otherworldliness (or should I say Martian-ness) of the scene.

Sometimes when traveling around this red rock country of the American southwest, you can almost imagine you're on Mars. And just think how fun it would be if such an amazing arch as this was ever captured on Mars in an image from one of our rovers. The internet might blow up with wishful theorizing that the arch was a monument from an ancient extraterrestrial civilization rather than the beautiful happenstance of natural processes of water, ice and wind.

Thanks for viewing!

Mit einer Höhe von ca. 18 m und einer Spannweite von ca. 10 m, zieht der aus Sandstein bestehende einmalige Solitär Begeisterte aus aller Welt magisch an.

While in Arches National Park last weekend we spent almost an entire night photographing Delicate Arch. This was pretty much from right under it as the Milky Way passed over.

These lovely blooms were just opening their buds when I took this photo. I believe this is called a Spider Flower.

The delicate fireworks is possible to capture

by the short exposure.

So I sometimes composite 2 or 3 shots for fireworks.

Delicate Arch is featured on the Utah state licence plates.

I returned home yesterday from my first trip to the USA southwest. I especially enjoyed hiking and sightseeing in Arches National Park in Utah. The most difficult thing about getting this photograph was finding a break in the steady parade of people taking selfies inside the arch, but finally it was clear of people for a few moments!!

I love the hints of pink at the edges of the petals.

A delicate cluster of pink flowers against a clear blue sky, capturing the essence of springtime.

An adventure up at the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. Hike up to this spot around sunset times and waited there for a good 5-6 hours for the milkyway to show up. And another hour or so before it gets just a little above Delicate Arch. Meet a new friend Sean, who is very knowledgable on astronomy. Had some great time with him that night chatting and learning a lot about the night skies from him.

This was captured by the end of my stay from that night. And was having some trouble hike back to the parking lot in the dark after this.

Shotgun to the back of my heart, I don't turn around to see who let one ring out

Said you'll never do me wrong? Guess we see how that plays out

Is it true? Is it true?

Heading to the Massacre

Bodies arriving every day

Look at those shells you heard

Picking the bones up along the way

Let it ring out

Sharpshooter in my backyard

Killed a boy once, never told no one

If it wasn't for my shotgun, he'd be alive and I'd be halfway, to heaven

Instead of sitting in the dark, going through hell you should've been here

Wish you had been here

I would say this is the most iconic arch of all the arches. To get to the delicate arch, you need to hike up and let me tell you that for beginner hikers, it’s quite difficult because it’s mostly uphill and the elevation gain is no joke. We went early April in the morning, so it was still cold even when the sun’s out as you climbed to higher elevation. Poles, good hiking shoes and appropriate hiking attires along with plenty of water are important for comfort and safety. It is worth the hikes though, and you wouldn’t believe how massive it is when you stand below the arch and the overall landscape itself is immense.
