Paper thin petals tinged by colour....pretty little things :)

Delicate Arch is featured on the Utah state licence plates.

I returned home yesterday from my first trip to the USA southwest. I especially enjoyed hiking and sightseeing in Arches National Park in Utah. The most difficult thing about getting this photograph was finding a break in the steady parade of people taking selfies inside the arch, but finally it was clear of people for a few moments!!

Más de 2000 arcos hay documentados en el Parque Nacional de los Arcos, pero todos nos vamos a ver y fotografiar los mismos, por lo que me he tenido que tirar un buen rato clonando gente :)

The delicate fireworks is possible to capture

by the short exposure.

So I sometimes composite 2 or 3 shots for fireworks.

Blues for Monday...well the background is blue even if the flowers aren't. I think they're Linium (flax) but I'm not exactly sure.

An adventure up at the Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Utah. Hike up to this spot around sunset times and waited there for a good 5-6 hours for the milkyway to show up. And another hour or so before it gets just a little above Delicate Arch. Meet a new friend Sean, who is very knowledgable on astronomy. Had some great time with him that night chatting and learning a lot about the night skies from him.

This was captured by the end of my stay from that night. And was having some trouble hike back to the parking lot in the dark after this.

While walking through the Butterfly Garden at the Woodland Park Zoo I noticed this most lovely and delicate creature sipping nectar from fuschia colored petals.

Arches National Park is a U.S. National Park in eastern Utah. It is known for preserving over 2000 natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations.

The park is located just outside of Moab, Utah, and is 119 square miles (310 km2) in size. Its highest elevation is 5,653 feet (1,723 m) at Elephant Butte, and its lowest elevation is 4,085 feet (1,245 m) at the visitor center. Since 1970, forty-three arches have toppled because of erosion. The park receives 10 inches (250 mm) of rain a year on average.

Administered by the National Park Service, the area was originally designated as a National Monument on April 12, 1929. It was redesignated as a National Park on November 12, 1971.

I love this delicate, ephemeral little wildflower. I found it in a nearby field and almost missed the diminutive little thing.

On this Earth Day, I cannot find a better picture which shows both the resilience and delicateness of the planet we live in. The two people in the picture shows where we stand on the grand scale. The planet we have now is a gift from our ancestors and I hope we can gift it to our next generations in a better way.

I couldn't really think of any adjective other than "delicate" to describe this scene. Overgradation and manipulation would have destroyed it so what you see here is more or less straight out of the camera. The only thing I had to correct was a slightly wonky horizon.

The story of this photo:

This is my latest macro shot. Over the last few weeks, I have been spending my time doing a lot of stuff that did not have too much to do with taking or editing photos. It did have to do with photography, but just not with the creative part of it. Anyway, yesterday, I got fed up with this stuff and I started messing around with my macro gear. The sun just went down and I found this tiny foilage with those delicate little hairs. I figured that this would look great against the sun. So, I got out my little syringe, applied a few droplets and took a whole bunch of shots with the sun in different spots relative to the foilage.

Initailly, I went with an aperture of f/20 to f/25 to get all of the leaves in focus. But that brought parts of the background too much into focus too. So, I went with f/8 which blurred the background entirely, and I took different shots with different foci. Then I used focus stacking in Photoshop to blend those images together. Et Voilà, subject in focus, background blurred.

And here is the lesson for you: Always know what you can do to an image in post-processing while you are shooting. This may help you solve problems and lets you create images that may be very difficult to create otherwise.

How it was shot:

> Taken with a tripod

> Three exposures - used focus stacking to bring the whole subject into focus

> Camera: Nikon D7000

> Lens: Nikon AF-S Micro-Nikkor 105mm 1:2,8G VR

How it was post-processed:

> Post-processing was done in Photoshop

> Topaz DeNoise

> Topaz Infocus for sharpening

> Topaz Details for bringing out the details in the petals and some basic color correction

> Saturation adjustent layer (master)

> Vibrance layer (vibrance)
