this is from yesterday...i was still feeling pretty bad from not sleeping and i was dehydrated...the shower was really soothing though and helped with the 100+ degree weather we're having...

Out in the parking lot. She was not injured, just confused and dehydrated, clutching the windshield wiper.

I moved her off the scorching car hood and into the shade.

Battling blistering heat, dehydration and fatigue, 30 members of the Carolina Brotherhood recently rode 463 miles in five days to honor their comrades who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Carolina Brotherhood is a cycling group comprised entirely of firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel from across North and South Carolina. Their mission is to provide emotional and financial support for the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty from the Carolinas. Their desire is to build awareness and appreciation of the sacrifice each of those extraordinary individuals have made, and to honor their memory.

This chameleon was very dehydrated. We placed an intraosseous catheter and soaked him in shallow warm water to help rehydrate him.

Tofu makes for a great travel food. It is perfect for long drives, backpacking or running a ultra. The only challenge is dropping the excess water weight. I like to baste it with tamari and maple syrup then smoke 1/2" thick slabs for 40 minutes over hickory. Then I re-baste and dehydrate and for 8 hours. Finally I vacuum seal the slabs for long term storage.

"The only one"

I am the only one in the house. I am sick, dehydrated, lost on campus, sleepy, I miss Chris, and I can't get off this couch.

I hate being alone. My fridge is broken. I have no food in the house I can eat without getting sick. Colors are blurred. Life is slipping out of my grasp. I am not getting enough food, water, or sleep.

I need help, but there is nobody to help me.

I refused to let mom buy those unhealthy deep fried snacks for chinese new year. Why bother, when these dehydrated fruits are so much healthier and yummier?

Didn't manage to find the red granny smiths at the super market though. The red delicious type aren't as nice dehydrated? Mmm.

Mom dehydated some bananas too. Ack. I hate those. :P

Wonder how Andora would react if I were to put her in the kitchen now. It smells so fruity there. Heh heh. (She already has her own bag of dehydrated pineapples in the fridge. :P)

Lola Loves sitting on top of our food dehydrator. It's warm!

We give Pippa dehydrated sweet potato slices, which are kind of like rawhides in texture. She likes to chew. You can buy them, but they're expensive. Every couple of weeks, I dehydrate four sweet potatoes. I don't worry about getting them completely hard as a rock, so keep them in the fridge- just in case.

She freaking loves them.

Aug 29th 2020 Dad was brought into a local hospital from a Veterans center with 4 infections, 2 pints of blood loss, 2 infections were contagious, dehydration, starvation, problems with blood pressure. Dad was put into ICU and test were ran. Cat scan readings were good. Blood work saw loss of fluids and blood levels were low. IV was given and blood transfusion also. Dad spent the next 7 days in the hospital getting medication to combat the infections he had. LISTED..Colon, Stomach, Staphylococcus and Mercer. Shortness of staff during the COVID19 virus has stricken again. Lack of care and uneducated staff in the Veterans center is at a terrible high level. These Veterans are being neglected and abused.

Coming from California, where all the cows are happy, according to the TV commercials, this was a shocking sight, although not the only one...

I love snacking on dried fruit, but it can get pretty expensive sometimes, so I bought myself a food dehydrator so that I can make my own - Oh My Goodness, fabulous!!!!

This was my first attempt and if I do say so myself, very 'fruitful' it was too :o) (sorry, couldn't resist :o)

Strawberries, pineapple and watermelon. The strawberries were nice, but not so much to eat on their own (more for on cereals and mixed with other things). I have to practice a little more with the pineapple, because either too moist still, or too dry and crunchy, but the flavour was still great. The watermelon however was a HUGE success - the flavour just exploded out of it, sweet and chewy like wine gums. YUMMY!!!!

I'm going to try mangoes next, and papaya and kiwi and nectarines and apples and bananas and.....the list is endless :o)

Yippee for the food dehydrator !!!!! :o)

this was a rented electric stove , my new gas one is Not this dirty!

Yogurt crisp (dehydrator), lemon-less lemon curd (using citrus oil) and white chocolate crumbs (aerated white chocolate that was dehydrated). Attendees were instructed to construct their own sweet cracker by squeezing some of the curd over the cracker, then scattering the white chocolate crumbs on top.

Chocolate bread, rhubarb jam, dehydrated strawberries, butternut syrup, Chocolate egg with white chocolate mousse and preserved cranberry, and a Farm Bar (with black walnut and green raspberry jam)

Blue Hill at Stone Barns was opened by Dan Barber in the spring of 2004 within the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, a non-profit farm and educational center located on 80 acres of former Rockefeller estate in Pocantico Hills. The center was created by David Rockefeller, his daughter Peggy Dulany, and their associate James Ford as a memorial for Peggy Rockefeller, who died in 1996. The farm-to-table destination, housed inside a former dairy barn, emphasizes seasonal and locally sourced ingredients including many from the surrounding fields and pasture.

I decided to brine then dehydrate peanuts - which would have been fine if I would have been able to find raw "skinned" peanuts. My co-op only had raw "skin-on" spanish peanuts, so I figured it wouldn't be that much work to do the skinning myself.

Well, I was wrong. I soaked them for 8 hours in salted water, and the skins seemed easy to remove. After about an hour, my patience was waning, so I decided to dehydrate them first - hoping that the skins would dry out and just flake off. The peanuts that still had skins on took much longer to dehydrate, and still required a fair amount of patience to peel off. I feared I would develop a peanut allergy I devoted so much time to these crazy nuts.

They were good, but really. 2 days worth of fiddling around with them for a quart and a half of nuts. I will not sprout peanuts again if I can't find raw and skinned nuts to begin with. The pecans I did the same way were far superior in taste, and required a tiny fraction of the time...

Made from two cans, Bush baked beans, and sweetened evaporated milk. Fuel in a tiny 1/4 cup measuring cup inside, with cotton wick. Alcohol fuel. Stone to hold lid on in the wind; Clamp as handle. Windscreen: Licence plate from Montana. I made Minestrone soup in this tin can, from dehydrated garden veggies and ravioletti macaroni. Stove boiled this soup for 15 minutes, until all veggies and macaroni was done. Simple and efficient.

Human body survives cold and hot temperature, weather and environmental change by skin and core temperature regulation. This animated science software explains the injuries changing environment temperature can inflict and thermal regulation mechanism used by human body, for survival.

Survival in severe hot and cold environment means adjusting to very high and low temperatures quickly. Heat radiation can produce heat stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration in hot environment. Hypothermia and cold weather injury cause severe damage to body tissues. Temperature regulation, Vasodilatation, Vasoconstriction, Sweating and Shivering are our protective mechanism.

Thermoregulation: Fragility of human body

What is meant by homeostatic?

Why should our body be homeostatic?

What are the ill effects of wide variation from homeostatic temperature?

When the temperature is above or lower than 37 °C or 98.6 °F how does the body remain homeostatic?

What happens when the core temperature decreases?

How does the body react at extremely cold conditions? (Around (-) 10 °C skin temperature)?

At extremely high temperatures, how does the body react?

AKA dry combination skin, oily dehydrated skin,

Introduction:

Most people confuse or misdiagnose their skin between dry and dehydration. Dry skin can be generic and is normally caused by not having enough sebum in the skin, while skin dehydration is from not having enough water.

Skin dehydration happens when the outermost layer of the skin starts to evaporate moisture, and insufficient internal hydration of epidermis. Once this damage occurs, the skin will no longer be a good barrier and causing skin problems such as scarring, taut skin, superficial lines, skin lack of radiance, loss of elasticity and premature aging.

When the Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring and I woke up this morning, we went downstairs and opened the “big ass” dehydrator.

“Well.” I told the Aggie Ring. “It looks like Mr. Dehydrator has been doing his job.”

“He only has one job. He had better have been doing it.” laughed the Aggie Ring.

This particular recipe is a test batch of “Cayenne-Dusted Pineapple Jerky” that we wanted to try out before we make an even bigger batch to send to our Soulless Ginger 18th Airborne coffee boy who’s currently reclassifying his MOS at Army Medic School because the Airborne needs more medics to deploy with.

There were probably between three and four pounds of finished product.

“Well, I might as well try one to see how they taste.” I told the Aggie Ring.

“For the love of God, NO!” cried out the Aggie Ring.

“Why not?” I asked.

“You don’t know if those things are safe. You don’t know.” explained Aggie Ring. “We need to find someone to try them before I let you sample one.”

“Who then?” I enquired of the Aggie Ring.

“Well…” said the Aggie Ring as he cogitated about it. “Someone young, whose life doesn’t have a purpose yet and who no one will miss if the pineapple kills him.”

“I know!” I exclaimed to the Aggie Ring. “We can have the 19 year-old EMT boy who comes into the coffee shop every day try them. If they kill him, well, no one is ever going to miss some teenage EMT boy.”

“Excellent choice.” said Aggie Ring.

The Aggie Ring bagged up a couple of pounds of the hot pineapple jerky to take up for our morning coffee. Sure as the sun shines and Johnny Manziel is going to get intercepted, EMT boy showed up for a foo-foo coffee on his way to college class.

The Aggie Ring and I cornered him outside at one of the tables. “Now, no one will question your manhood if you don’t want to try one.” said Aggie Ring.

“I can take it.” cried out the EMT boy. “I like hot stuff.”

Aggie Ring let out his trademark “Evil Aggie Ring™” laugh. “Sure, go ahead boy.”

The EMT boy opened up the bag and tentatively took out a single ring of the cayenne dusted pineapple jerky. I think it burnt his fingers slightly. He held it up and smiled for the camera. Then, he took a bite out of it. He looked terribly frightened. Aggie Ring was afraid he was going to burst into tears.

Suddenly, as he was still chewing his first bite, he spoke out (still with food in his mouth). “Oh, this is good!” He told Aggie Ring and myself “Thank you” as he took the two-pound bag and headed directly to his car so he wouldn’t have to share with anyone inside.

Aggie Ring laughed and told me, “Well, I guess we need to get home and start a production batch to send to the 18th Airborne Ginger Medic.”

When we arrived back home, I tried a slice. It was crispy on the outside, but chewy on the inside. Sort of like a gummy bear. However, the cayenne made it seem like the gummy bear was alive and clawing its way down your throat.

A student demonstrates of mixing Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) with water to make solution outside their classroom at Middle School in Madhubani District. Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) for treatment of diarrhoea. ORS contain salts and sugar, which helps the child to absorb water to replace that is lost during diarrheal episodes. Since 2004, UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) have recommended treating childhood diarrhoea by replacing fluids through oral rehydration therapy (ORT), using Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS). UNICEF's CBDRR programme started in 2009 and now covers 255 villages and 155 schools in eight flood-prone districts mostly in northern Bihar. Of 38 districts in the state 28 are flood prone. Earth quakes are also common, five districts being in seismic zone V and 21 in zone IV. The programme, implemented by seven NGO partners, not only empowers schools and communities in identifying risks it also assists them in initiating disaster risk reduction (DRR) measures and linking them to government programmes. The coconut is weighed to ensure that it is dehydrated enough. If there is too much moisture, it will go back onto the dryer. Ten kilos of fresh coconut should weigh 5 kilos after drying. Oxfam trained quality control people ensure records and kept and that the oil is weighed correctly.

I love homegrown fried RIPE yellow & red tomatoes and this years' planting begins soon ;0)

I don't deep fry but use a little olive oil in a non-stick pan.... here's my lowfat version:

1/4 inch tomato slices - black pepper applied

dip slices ONLY in mixture of half flour/stone milled cornmeal - press gently to be sure the natural juices saturate the mix on both sides so the flour/meal sticks well & is thick

have pan with some olive oil (a few tablespoons) hot enough to sizzle if a little meal is dropped in - and when slices are in place then turn the heat down so first side browns very slowly - when first side has juices bubbling and flour/meal is golden brown then drizzle olive oil on top of slices

flip carefully and allow 2nd side to brown similarly

remove & serve hot ;0)

The key is in getting the pan temperature just right for a slow cook. My solution to enjoying fried ripe tomatoes in a healthier way... way less fat.... and I also don't use salt but sometimes drizzle a little balsamic vinegar or lemon juice instead. Guests salt to taste.

I also dehydrate my yellow tomatoes.... they are great in salads or eaten as a crispy side for a sandwich in place of potato chips. Yellow tomatoes dehydrate super sweet as candy. Try it!
