This Medilink isn’t even an actual Medilink. At least two of the YX25s remain in standard Skills livery and can be differentiated by their higher spec with tinted windows and additional tree deflector on the offside... although OGN has already managed to lose its nearside one. I imagine these are the Medilink ‘spares’, that when not required can be used alongside the 17 plate MMC as regular double deck coaches.

OGO is the other high-spec YX25, although it isn’t on the ticket machine list on Bustimes, so does it actually get used on the Medilink? Also I haven’t seen the 17 plate on Bustimes either but surely it’s cleared to be used on the route? Well with all these MMCs at their disposal now, that’s pretty much dashed my hopes of Skills putting one of their ex-Lothian Presidents on it as a spare.

Being the “fancy” Medilink with tinted windows, YX25 OGN passes QMC Island with a Queens Drive-bound journey, about to call into QMC and perform a lap of the grounds, on 28.11.25

...I saw the grenade roll in, and stop by my feet. Almost instantly, I threw myself backwards, bringing my backpack around to use as a shield. Moments later, shrapnel peppered my shins and pack, but was absorbed by the thick pack, or deflected harmlessly by the angled surfaces of the greaves. I threw down the pack, and gave the room a quick look-around. My cot was overturned and in tatters, and there was a smoking crater where the grenade was. The scalpel and syringe that had been in a medkit were embedded in the thick canvas partition. I took all of this in in a split-second, parallel to the motion of me drawing my magnum from it's holster. Looking ahead, I saw my attacker, wielding a katana. He had expected to find a helpless, wounded victim instead of an armed, highly trained, alert sniper. In the same split-second as he noticed my gun and began to turn to flee, I buried a single round into his chest. At last, these attacks were over. I walked over, keeping my gun trained on him, and kicked his sword away. "This is why you don't bring a knife to a gun fight..."

He tried to spit at me in defiance, but ultimately failed when he learned for a second time that he was wearing a headwrap. I laughed, and watched this bastard die as soldiers began to investigate the disturbance. Once he drew no more breath, I checked his dog tags. He shared the last name of the soldier who I failed to save. Vengeance: An answer to this mess, but one that didn't seem to fill in all the grooves. There must be another reason, one which I would find out. As I left the infirmary, I heard some new soldiers whisper in amazement. As I walked away, I turned my head, and said to them, "Hey. I'm not known as the toughest dog around for nothing..."

Built in the old Russian Noachis Terra shipyards on Mars and named after the founding father of astronautics, Циолковский (Tsiolkovsky), this starship accommodates the curious and adventurous on their mission of exploration and discovery. Equipped with seven magnetoplasmadynamic thrusters (MPDTs) and three deployable research stations for missions in almost any environment. Demilitarized under the Lelande treaty of 2437, this starship may lack armament but still sports an armoured head capable of deflecting oncoming comets and small asteroids.

Shaju is a once-ordinary man whose unique circumstances have led him into a far different path than anyone was expecting. He has risen from being forced at an early age to become the man of his house, to becoming a Toa Vihagu, a knight under the service of House Kihanu, and a respected figure among the coalition fighting against the Malevolent. He has a unique manifestion of his elemental control over water, making use of an "aura" of energy which he can use to attack, or more commonly to empower his suit of power armor to deflect nearly all attacks.

Shaju is known as silent but wise, rarely speaking when out of his turn but possessing great insight when he does. It is rumored among Matoran that Zerkah is the only person he speaks to - a stereotype that other Vihagu have attempted to rectify. His tall stature even among Toa is also a point of myth, an aspect that Shaju appears to take in stride and even play with on occasion

The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, or 250 TR, is a racing sports car built by Ferrari from 1957 to 1961. It was introduced at the end of the 1957 racing season in response to rule changes that enforced a maximum engine displacement of 3 liters for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and World Sports Car Championship races. The 250 TR was closely related to earlier Ferrari sports cars, sharing many key components with other 250 models and the 500 TR. The 250 TR achieved many racing successes, with variations winning 10 World Sports Car Championship races including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1958, 1960, and 1961, the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1958, 1959 and 1961, the Targa Florio in 1958, the 1000 Km Buenos Aires in 1958 and 1960 and the Pescara 4 Hours in 1961. These results led to World Sports Car Championship constructor's titles for Ferrari in 1958, 1960 and 1961.

The 1961: TRI61 (above image)

1961 250 TRI61 Spider Fantuzzi

All 1961 250 Testa Rossa's were designated 250 TRI61 as independent rear suspension was now standard. Due to high drag and visibility problems with the TR60 body style, Ferrari engineers including Giotto Bizzarini and Carlo Chiti were tasked with completely re-designing the 250 TR bodywork for the 1961 racing season. As a result, the new Fantuzzi-built TRI61 body incorporated a number of dramatic changes, informed by new aerodynamic theories and wind-tunnel testing. The windshield now had a more gradual slope and wrapped around both sides of the cockpit to meet the rear bodywork. Instead of the rounded tail with fairing for the driver's head, the TRI61 had a very high rear body that met the trailing edge of the side windows and tapered to a truncated, slightly concave Kamm tail. This body style was called an "open coupe" and was very similar to bodies used on mid-engined Ferrari sports racers such as the 1961 246 SP.

The front air inlet was now split into two openings, introducing the distinctive "sharknose" or "nostril" style that was also used on other Ferrari sports racing cars such as the 246 SP and the 156 Formula 1 car. This front end styling had first appeared on a trio of Maserati 250Fs that Fantuzzi re-bodied in 1958 for racer Ross Jensen and team owner Temple Buell (son of the architect with the same name). Fantuzzi's suggestion that the twin intakes would improve air penetration was confirmed by Chiti's wind tunnel testing, leading to the adoption of this style throughout Ferrari's 1961 racing cars.

During testing of the 250 TRI61, a full-width angled "deflector" panel was installed along the top edge of the rear bodywork. This was initially installed to prevent exhaust fumes from entering the cockpit under deceleration. After testing the prototype with the deflector, driver Richie Ginther commented that high-speed stability seemed to improve with only a slight reduction in top speed, leading to the inclusion of this feature on all 1961 bodies. The Ferrari engineers had in effect created a rear spoiler, well before engineers understood the aerodynamic theory behind them and integrated them into many car designs.

The Highway 12 bridge that the #840 local passes under will be replaced this year (2020). Built in the 1950's, it still sports its three blast plates to the end. These plates were a common addition and deflected steam engine exhaust to protect the structure.

Omg, I actually made something!! It's been too damn long..

7 months ago I got a new gaming laptop and have been hooked playing games like Team Fortress 2 and Skyrim. So that's why I've been gone for a while. Why do video games have to be so addicting? Anyway, once Team Fortress 3 - I mean Overwatch was coming out, I felt the urge to build again.

Who knew a pink mech would be so frustrating to make?

Lunar halo: 22° ring formed when moonlight passes through tiny hexagonal ice crystals suspended in high-altitude clouds. Each ray is deflected at a precise angle, and the different wavelengths separate slightly, giving the inner edge a reddish tint and the outer edge a cooler hue. It is one of the most common optical phenomena in the atmosphere, but it requires very specific conditions to appear so clearly.

Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe received a Governor General’s Medal in Architecture in 2014 for this nursing home on the edge of the Don Valley Ravine, which provides a heavenly space for 58 nuns to live out their final earthly years and reimagines what an old-age home can be.

The building, which from above looks like a current flowing from the 1850s heritage house adjoining it, includes a private hospital, assisted living rooms, and a serene glass chapel at its heart, cocooned by an outdoor reflecting pool.

The exterior’s visually stunning, green-highlighted weathered steel columns serve to deflect sunlight, and the interior’s white oak provides a sense of lightness, expanse and movement. The thoughtful design not only evokes nature, but also incorporates sustainability, such as geothermal heating and cooling, solar panels, a green roof and water reclaiming practices.

The Chesapeake and Ohio Railway's class L-2 comprised eight coal-fired 4-6-4 "Hudson" type steam locomotives numbered #300–307 and built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1941. They had roller bearings on all axles, and the first-built, #300, had roller bearings on its side and main rods too. #300 also bore "Elephant ear" smoke deflectors from 1948.

In 1947, the C&O ordered five additional and very similar locomotives, numbering them #310–314; these were class L-2-A and differed mostly in using Franklin RC poppet valves instead of the Baker valve gear of the L-2s. These were the last express passenger steam locomotives ordered by a United States railroad, and some of the most expensive at $353,346 each, 80% more than the cost of the 8 earlier L-2 locomotives.

Both classes were among the largest 4-6-4s ever built. They were intended to work the C&O's top-flight express trains on level ground; the railroad purchased 4-8-4 "Greenbrier" types for mountain service.

By 1953, C&O passenger services were wholly dieselized, and there was no more work for these locomotives to do. Hudsons were very unsuited to freight work, with such a comparatively small proportion of their weight on the drivers. All were quickly scrapped.

When touring the moors on Exmoor, Somerset on a previous holiday we found a small herd of Exmoor ponies, and I was able to gradually and steadily get quite close to these two grazing to get this shot!

These were free-roaming ponies. The Exmoor pony is a horse breed native to the British Isles, where some still roam as semi-feral livestock on Exmoor, a large area of moorland in Devon and Somerset in southwest England. The Exmoor has been given "endangered" status by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust, and "threatened" status by The Livestock Conservancy. It is one of the British Isles' mountain and moorland pony breeds, having conformation similar to that of other cold-weather-adapted pony breeds. The Exmoor pony is hardy and used for a variety of equestrian activities. In its free-roaming state, the breed's presence on Exmoor contributes to the conservation and management of several natural pasture habitats. The head is somewhat large in proportion to the body, with small ears, and has a unique feature called a "toad eye" caused by extra fleshiness of the eyelids, which helps to deflect water and provide extra insulation. As with most cold-weather pony breeds, the Exmoor grows a winter coat consisting of a highly insulating woolly underlayer and a topcoat of longer, oily hairs that prevent the undercoat from becoming waterlogged by diverting water down the sides of the animal to fall from just a few drip areas. The mane and tail are thick and long, and the dock of the tail is of a type common in cold-weather ponies, having coarse hairs, called a "frost cap," "snow chute," or "ice tail" that deflects rainwater away from the groin and underbelly areas to fall from the long hairs on the back of the hind legs.

It had been noted out of service in January 2005, but would appear to have been resurrected for a short stint as shunter. It didn’t last long though, being an early casualty of reduced loco requirements following cessation of steam over the Jinpeng Pass, being noted dumped a few weeks after this shot was taken.

Not the same frame I posted in July. A final look at the 2018 Cheyenne Frontier Days Denver Post charter. I generally pull 844 shots I get every summer after a few months a guy can have too many in his portfolio, though I really like this locomotive...

In this frame I had my needs met with rods down and some light helping 844 stand out from its background right behind the smoke deflectors. Taken at Platteville by the elevator standing in the native grasses capturing the moment as I waned to see it. I wanted a grain elevator this year since I am all about props and High Plains grasslands. With literally 1000’s of photos of this train at numerous locations mostly grade crossings and with the typical light conditions as they are along this line in the mid Summer I prayed for some weather. I chased this light from Greeley moving 5 times before taking a last bet, the last elevator and the last place I felt this works I was willing to walk away empty handed as I have countless captures of this train and 844 dating back to 1992.

How did I do it? I post edited my RAW file shot on camera with some basic settings to avoid blowing out the highlights and crushing the blacks. In the post process I made 2 panels with two different exposures set in Lightroom and layered them one to push the darks back and one to pull the lights up to increase the punch on the subject. I shot this with a quality 14/24mm zoom at 16mm at ISO 800 with the aperture set to f16. I am happy with the results. I planned something like this months in advance and needed to improvise in the field to get it. I have a lasting memory of 844 on a beautiful train in beautiful Colorado storm light.

Body armor or Body armour, or personal armor/armour is protective clothing, designed to absorb and/or deflect slashing, bludgeoning and penetrating attacks by weapons. It was historically used to protect military personnel, whereas today, it is also used to protect various types of police (riot police in particular), private citizens, private security guards[1] or bodyguards. Today there are two main types: regular non-plated personal armor (used by the people mentioned above, except combat soldiers) and hard-plate reinforced personal armor, which is used by combat soldiers, police tactical units and hostage rescue teams.
