CHRISTIAN DEDEENE, THE BALLET DANCER...
Still one of my favourite portraits.
He was for 5 years a solo and star dancer with one of the greatest choreographers of the last century, Maurice Béjart .
I was fortunate to have him in our studio a couple of times, and what an experience it was, each time.
After I'd seen him in action and done the 'dance photos', I asked him if he would pose for this portrait I had in my head.
I know how these people work out day after day, I admired the definition in the muscle-tones and tendons.
The result is what I had imagined, the proud profile, the wild hair, and THE DEFINITION.
I love dramatic lighting, especially for this kind of subject.
Thanks Christian, for being so patient and sharing my artistic vision.
Thank you, M, (*_*)

I don't usually don't ever post process my light paintings but this one had so much detail I thought it deserved the HDR treatment!
High definition black and white high dynamic range shifted image. Made from 15 images 5 sets of 3 shifted photos, shifted 10mm left, centre and 10mm right with 1.5 degree tilt down merged in photoshop, noise control in define, sharpening and then merging to HDR in HDR Efex 2. Final constrast tuned in lightroom and minor cropping to tidy up edges.
The error in the thesis of "art for art's sake" really amounts to supposing that there are relativities which bear their adequate justification within themselves, in their own relative nature, and that consequently there are criteria of value inaccessible to pure intelligence and foreign to objective truth. This error involves abolishing the primacy of the spirit and its replacement either by instinct or taste, by criteria that are either purely subjective or else arbitrary.
We have already seen that the definition, laws and criteria of art cannot be derived from art itself, that is, from the competence of the artist as such; the foundations of art lie in the spirit, in metaphysical, theological and mystical knowledge, not in knowledge of the craft alone nor yet in genius, for this may be anything at all; in other words the intrinsic principles of art are essentially subordinate to extrinsic principles of a higher order.
Art is an activity, an exteriorisation, and thus depends by definition on a knowledge that transcends it and gives it order; apart from such knowledge art has no justification: it is knowledge which determines action, manifestation, form, and never the reverse.
It is not necessary to produce works of art oneself in order to have the right to judge an artistic production in
its essentials; decisive artistic competence only comes into play in relation to an intellectual competence which must be already present.
No relative point of view can claim unqualified competence except in the case of innocuous activities in which competence applies anyhow in a very narrow field; now human art derives from a relative point of view; it is an application, not a principle.

definition of outtake: Some days I take more than one photo specifically for the 365 project. I take a different version, or angle of that photo's subject or a different subject all together. Ultimately I have to chose only one as my "photo of the day". So my outtakes are born. :)
An Englishman will say, can I have a sweet please
An American will say, where is the Candy Man?
An Australian will say, can I have a little sugar
An Irishman will say, can I lick your Candy Man
I hope its' not too sweet, thank you Sugar...

I wish this was a little clearer but my friend didn't want to stay still for me. By far I think this is the most beautiful creature on earth.
Taken at the Nashville Zoo, TN.
Normally i just pop onto the coast path a short distance from my house to photograph the sunset....today however i hiked 3.5 miles further along the coast to capture it.....my navigational skills are up to scratch as i got the location spot on....:-)
Shot at a small town cultural event, Skördefesten (harvest fair), in Falköping. Don't know this artists name though.
