Honesty

Honesty (Lunaria) - in my garden and in my heart. With the latter, unlike the former, it doesn't just appear in spring, there are no stages, no tweaking, no compromises and no exceptions, it is a guiding Light, Take it or leave it.
In the times of inversion and great deceit in which we live, a world where lies are the accepted norm, from the very top down and throughout all media, then speaking the truth is considered a subversive act ..... or at least it soon will be.
It is an interesting contemplation that honesty and truth are not necessarily synonymous. Truth by definition is honest, but without honesty that which is true can be difficult to discern.
This flower also has lovely papery white seed pods that the sun shines through and illuminates in autumn.

In a biogeographic definition, paramo is any intertropical mountain ecosystem, characterized by shrubby vegetation that generally occurs from altitudes of about 3,000 to 4,000 meters or up to 5,000 meters, that is, in regions above the forest line. continuous but still below the permanent snow line. It is found in East Africa, New Guinea, and Central and South America. However, since in each of these regions this ecosystem has a specific name, when discussing Paramos, we refer specifically to Andean Paramos.
In this strict sense of the term, all Paramos are located in the neotropical zone, mainly in northwestern South America, present in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. The ecosystem occupies over 30,000 km² of South America and represents 7% of Ecuador's territory. In absolute terms, Colombia is home to 50% of the extent of Paramos (in its three branches of the Andes) and the largest Paramo in the world (Sumapaz).
Paramos' climate is characterized by wide daily fluctuations in temperature and humidity. In general, cold and humid, can undergo a sudden and drastic change in which temperatures fluctuate from below freezing to 30 ° C plus in a daily freeze-thaw cycle. High altitude in tropical locations produces a special, cold, low air density atmosphere that allows for greater dispersion of ultraviolet radiation (light and heat). This climate can be summed up in the phrase "winter every night and summer every day."
In Paramo ecosystems, soils are generally recent, of glacial and volcanic origin, and many are still in formation. Its structure is a combination of organic material that decomposes very slowly in cold weather with volcanic ash. They usually have low pH (acidity) because of the abundance of moisture and high content of organic matter. These characteristics contribute to soil water retention, which in turn is the basis of an essential environmental service: the constant storage and distribution of clean water to lower places.
The largest and most known area is the Páramo grass, which covers large areas of the mountain ranges. It extends from approximately 3,500 to 4,100 m in height, and is mainly composed of grasses and small shrubs.

This is a Lancewood (NZ native) tree that grows in our garden, it has a long slender trunk and tuft of leaves at the top. It's probably about 3 -4 metres tall ( I am hopeless at estimating heights). The juvenile form is quite different from this, you would hardly tell it was the same plant.

Whatever definition we use for heroism, these firefighters more than amply qualify. The helicopter in this image was in rotation with the Canadair CL-415 Super Scooper planes as they battled an advancing wildfire (Rock Fire on West Mountain, just south of Tamarack Resort near Donnelly, Idaho). When the Super Scoopers had doused the flames and were on their return flight to skim the surface of the lake for more water, this helicopter would fly in and douse hot spots with water using an enormous bucket suspended on a long cable. (For images of the planes in action, see the first comment below.)

Here is another example of how a film shot can effectively give a scene a feeling of age. One could easily think this was taken many decades ago. The clouds provided a wonderful backdrop and the orange filter made sure that they showed real definition.
There are three really famous colonial bridges in Tasmania: Richmond (1825), Ross (1836) and Campbell Town (1838). It is a tribute to their builders that each bridge is still in use today.
The Red Bridge at Campbell Town is bigger and has it's own charms, the Richmond Bridge is outstanding and the oldest bridge still in use in Australia, but the stone work in the Ross Bridge is of another level, with a special story that reminds you of the sort of medieval craftsmanship you see in Europe. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/albums/72157716105920156
This is my definition of perfect lighting in a photograph. It couldn't get any better if it wanted to. The natural fog in the background allowed the light to fill so much of the frame. The contrasting warm waters and five degree air temperatures certainly helped with that effect. Light is a beautiful thing and an underestimated gift. For the opposite of light is darkness. They cannot and never will coexist. When the light shows up, the darkness hides away and is kept at bay until the light stops shining. For the perfect Creator, Christ Jesus, is the Light of the world and there is no darkness in Him and His light casts out ALL darkness!
At first I thought Redolence such as strange variety name for this beautiful orchid, however the definition is fragrant or sweet smelling, which this orchid has a very beautiful fragrance. Too bad we don't have fragra-vision on Flickr !

When you measure time by millenia everything looks different. Amur Honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii) an invasive wild honeysuckle, by current human definitions anyway, is wrecking havoc along woodland edges in much of the Eastern United States. Helped, in part, by the birds who love the berries and the butterflies who love the flowers. And, although each has missed the bigger picture of how this new addition to the forest is pushing out native species and harming the ecosystem it seems to serve their immediate needs.
But Nature thinks in millenia - not years, or decades, (...or terms of office), or even centuries.
And in even one millenia (a thousand years) the Amur Honeysuckle will be a shadow of its current self. The ecosystem itself will have embraced it, dismantled it, remolded it, co-evolved with it, and it will be a productive, sustaining member of that system - supporting and nurturing all life. :)

This flower was picked from my garden, I noticed that the petals contained red and yellow and seemed to sparkle, stark contrast against the vivid blue.
I shot this against a black piece of card in my kitchen. I placed a white card to the leftt and a purple card to the right. I used 2 cheep chinese LED reading lights, which are adjustable, they produce a day light white balance, there was also natural front lighting.
I placed the lights underneath, one pointing to the white card and one towards the purple card. The white side had lower intensity than the purple side, reflecting off the cards. I thought this would give me definition and structure to the image.
I later post processed the image in lightroom.
