This quote from Vincent Van Gogh is so poignant. Nature is beautiful, kind, cruel, vibrant, pale, dynamic, calm. It is all these things and more in nature that makes our world so diverse.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week, HMM.
The beauty of nature is that it doesn't have to be perfect !

“Roses do not bloom hurriedly; for beauty, like any masterpiece, takes time to blossom.”

Roses come in so many shapes, colors and sizes. The small rose in my picture measures 2.5” in diameter and it is the sharp contrast between the deep red and the white that appealed to me at first. She was so delicate and beautiful!

"Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it." Confucius
As I was photographing a dried coneflower this earwig crawled out! Luckily it wasn't too active. I have to admit I have a hard time finding beauty in it. However, if I look at it thinking of this quote:
"Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides."- Junichiro Tanizaki
I can see beauty in the details.
When I started this project I was simply photographing flowers past their prime because it's something I enjoy doing. I certainly had not planned on this being my shot but decided to go with it.
I enjoyed the added challenge of having to match a quote with a photo.

"Beauty is such a fleeting blossom, how can wisdom rely upon its momentary delight?”— Seneca the Younger
These blue haze open in the late morning and close tight by late afternoon. But even fleeting, what a delight. They are always a surprise to see "wide awake" in their flower pot on our deck--they seem shy most of the time.

I enjoyed this week's Macro Mondays theme because we were asked to illustrate a quote about beauty. 'A thing of beauty is a joy for ever' is the first line of Endymion, by the English Romantic poet John Keats. It's something I remember hearing my mother say when I was a child and it's stuck with me.
I love miniatures and have always admired the skill and patience involved in creating them. This little turquoise horse is only 1.75" high and about 1.25" wide. The flower, of course, is a fleeting beauty, but it's there just because I love this colour combination. :)
“I prefer by far the warmth and softness to mere brilliancy and coldness. Some people remind me of sharp dazzling diamonds. Valuable but lifeless and loveless. Others, of the simplest field flowers, with hearts full of dew and with all the tints of celestial beauty reflected in their modest petals.” ― Anaïs Nin
I used to do a photography blog and would put an image up and then search for an accompanying quote which I felt best illustrated the image.
This time, I found a quote that I identified with and then shot a photo for the quote. I decided I'd bring a spray bottle to create some "dew' and looked for a pink fairy duster as I highly prefer them over the red ones.
All flowers have beauty but the fairy duster has a subdued beauty-it is messy and unassuming but once you look past its modest petals, you see just how uniquely beautiful it really is. But then, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder!

Taken for group 'Macro Monday' theme 'Defining Beauty'.
The quote for the theme is 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'.
It's not the best of macro shots. I could not use flash so have high ISO and slow shutter speed. However I think it fits the theme. It is cropped but otherwise is straight out of the camera.
This is a photo of my wife's eye with me reflected in it. It really is a case of "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
Beauty's a doubtful good, a glass, a flower, Lost, faded, broken, dead within an hour; And beauty, blemish'd once, for ever's lost, In spite of physic, painting, pain, and cost.
When taking a 'selfie' of my right eye, I can see a tiny image of the view from my home looking back through the camera. It is a view of a soft, wooded stream bank of South Wales & it ticks my box marked Beautiful

A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing..
