"Beauty in things exists in the mind which contemplates them." - David Hume

”It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living.'”

David Attenborough

I agree of course with Mr. Attenborough.

To me nature is also hilarious.

Every morning Mr. teenage rabbit visits me, and trains for a combination of 100 meters sprint and pirouettes.

Don't try that at home.

'Frederik the pheasant' strolls by my house, also every morning.

A little annoyed with the disturbance from teen-rabbit.

Very proud bird. Only he lost his impressive call, leaving a not-so-impressive squeak.

Frederik is, not surprisingly, not so popular with the 'birds' these days.

Back to this weeks theme;

Nature certainly is a cornucopia of simplicity, complexity, wonder and beauty.

In life, big changes bring many unexpected things. The fall is both predictable (the color of the leaves fading into red) and really breathtaking. This is our new garden (not ours, just the forest at the back :-) seen from the kitchen window. A blessing. We just moved into our new home today after 31 years. A new life… Autumn, not "Otium"

Few sips ahead of sunrise,

And I see my coffee splash

Wide across the beautiful horizon

The colors of sky and warmth of my mug.

I hear the day break,

And the night turn away with a sigh...

A very happy morning

To this wonderful world.

A beautiful HMM to all of you :)

Alles, was man mit Liebe betrachtet, ist schön!

Everything you view with love, is beautiful!

Christian Morgenstern ( 6.5.1871-31.3.1914 )

German author and poet

Beauty is something we admire and desire,

Beauty is the soft touch of a loved one,

Beauty is the scents that evoke happy memories,

Beauty is the words, music or songs that fills your heart with love.

Beauty is that moment you close your eyes

and lick your lips after savoring something heavenly.

Beauty pleases and brings us happiness.

Beauty is looking in the mirror wondering

why He or She finds you beautiful

when all you see is you.

Defining Beauty is a state of the mind

and therefore,

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

'Perhaps I have no God - what does it matter?

I have beauty and joy and transcending loneliness,

I have a future full of surprises, a present full of wonder.'

'I am one of the searchers. There are I believe many of us. We are not unhappy, but neither are we content. We continue to explore life. We searchers are ambitious only for life itself, for everything beautiful it can provide. Most of all we want to love and be loved. We want to love in a relationship that will not impede our wandering, nor prevent our search, nor lock us in prison walls: that will take us for what little we have to give.'

James Kavanaugh

San Diego, 1970

Easy enough to find a familiar or trite saying or quotation, but rather more difficult to find something I think is more thought provoking: and then to extend the thought with an illustration.

I think I am still a 'searcher'.

I have a sharper image of a butterfly of this species at www.flickr.com/photos/25673579@N04/28730652937/in/datepos... but yesterday I could not find one in ideal light, and the only one I found more than 8" [20 cm] off the ground flew off when I approached.

I chose this photo to represent this quote as I feel the dew drops depict her tears - and the web, her captivity. However, looking at the web today, you see the beauty in its intricacies and the tears have turned to gems.

.. you can't really define beauty - as everyone sees the world a little bit different and has different preferences. But for me, beauty mostly is the combination of light and details ... and something "talking" to the soul : ))

A beautiful and happy Macro Mondays everybody!!

Thanks a lot for taking a look at my picture and giving feedback (comments and / or faves). I appreciate it very much!! : ))

or "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder" and that is only good for those of us that are not blind. Beauty, for me, is not an intrinsic quality of an object that I find beautiful, but in my reaction to that object. With out this subjective appraisal of the object, that is in a state of nonrecognition, it remains simply matter, form and color.

Defining Beauty

"Beautie, sweet love is like the morning dewe,

Whose short refresh upon the tender greene,

Cheeres for a time but tyll the sunne doth shew,

And straight tis gone as it had never beene."

From Delia Sonnet XLII by Samuel Daniel (1562-1619).

Australian aboriginal art combines colors in a fresh and different way together with beautiful patterns... Simplicity is also beauty, dots and lines... And the fact that "hand made" includes small deviations from perfection. This picture is part of an authentic boomerang... I love it...

That's just a minimal excerpt, but the nature as whole is beautiful - at least to me.

Origin of “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”: This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (Thukydides)

To some extend beauty is culturally determined. On the other hand beauty is universal. Beauty is determined by someone taste. But yet beauty is not tasted, nor felt, nor smelled nor heard, beauty can only been seen. Sometimes beauty has to be revealed, when the eye cannot see by itself, i.e. when its very far away or when it's very tiny. Means can be very helpful the see the beauty...
