Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine.

It’s the electronic communication flickr provides that has me fascinated! This venue that creates a stage for us to express ourselves in a way that meets a demand we have inside. I may see a vision in Mexico City or Shanghai in the morning, thanks to Luis and Ying aka Sakuralove which sticks in my mind all day, and by that evening it suddenly happens, my eyes are opened, and I begin to see it in my world. At that moment, I am so humbled, so grateful to be alive, So thankful for the talent God has given me. I want to use it to help others, to make their lives better and mine somehow, to express myself to the world, to communicate.

This slightly alien looking sunset from ‪#‎Cornwall‬ was shot using an infrared filter.

So pretty much all the light that's defining this image is infrared light, which is just outside the visible spectrum of light and we can't see.

Working with this filter is bit of an experiment at the moment but I always enjoy playing with new ways of making images.

This is from Morton's overlook in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. In previous GSMNP uploads I mentioned I parked on the ridge and pulled up folding chairs and just waited for the night to unfold. It was definitely a defining moment in my photographic travels.

The beauty lies in small details.

There are a number of photographers who have left me with profound impressions. One of the most influential is Jay Maisel. He isn’t just an extremely successful photographer but a mentor and philosopher, as well. His lectures on light, gesture, and color are well worth listening to or reading about. The concepts of light and color in photography are more easily definable. Gesture, on the other hand, is a more elusive. I would say it isn’t a quantifiable variable, but it is probably one, if not, the most important quality of any photograph. #YellowThroatedEuphonia #LightGestureColor

Lucky San Francisco has been caught with a nice streak of nice weather, which has lasted us a couple days now. While the sun is out, I am super grateful, however the breeze still carries with it an unnerving chill at times. Especially if your'e meandering around in the shade.

Every day we're out we walk by so many things, and so many people. I am inclined to say that when we walk by all of these things, many of us neglect to remember to look at the small things. Often times it is the small things that define the larger things. Observing seemingly normal things in certain detail can bring the once "ordinary" in to a more exquisite and appreciable light.

It is my responsibility to teach her that

• physical beauty does not define you.

• the house we live in nor the cars we drive say anything about us

• our actions and how we treat others says the most about who we are

• never let anyone tell you how to feel

• no one can make you feel unworthy unless you let them

• this is the only earth we have, and we need to be nice to it. even if it means walking out of jcpenney with boy Jockey undies and socks in hand because you don't want the plastic bag.

• you have to love yourself before you can love anyone else.

• one person can make a difference.

• some people believe in God and some people may not necessarily believe in God, but have a belief in a higher power, some don’t believe in any higher being and that is ok. it is up to you to decide which you choose to believe in.

• you don’t always have to forgive, but sometimes you just have to let go.

• hate is like giving someone free rent in your heart.

• no one is perfect, even the best of people make mistakes.

• not all friendships last forever

• bad things happen to good people, there is no reason why.

• sometimes abortion is not a choice, but a heartbreaking necessity.

• never ever judge someone’s actions until you have been in their shoes, because it is easy to judge if you have never been there.

• not everyone has to believe what you believe, that is what makes this world interesting

• when to use who vs. whom

• make “throw like a girl” a positive statement.

The term, "Local Flavors," can be defined as the "unique cultural characteristics of a place."

Nothing can fit this definition more than the #1 attraction in South Dakota....Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills.

And nothing can capture the imagination more than the illumination of the monument framed by the flags of the 50 states of the U.S. as well as the 3 territories (Guam, Virgin Islands, American Samoa), 2 commonwealths (Puerto Rico and Northern Mariana Islands) and 1 district (Washington D.C.)

A 14 year undertaking borne from the mind of Doane Robinson and sculpted by Gutzon Borglum, Mt. Rushmore consists of the 60' (18.3 meters) faces of 4 American Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

Mt. Rushmore is situated on Lakota Sioux land claimed in 1870 by the U.S. government. This land is still in dispute....and to show that the Native Americans also have heroes, a great memorial to the Lakota Warrior, Crazy Horse is being sculpted 17 miles away on Thunderhead Mountain.

The Lighting Ceremony is held from May through September and can be seen from the amphitheater as dark approaches.

A National Parks Ranger gives a talk explaining the selection of the 4 Presidents. It is followed by a 10 minute film.

Finally, active military members and veterans are summoned up for the flag lowering and folding while the audience participates in the singing of the National Anthem.

A truly memorable experience!

The lens is ready, the photographic medium is ready and the aperture was seemingly designed ready for this long exposure. Focus only on the required detail and allow the life of the open shutter to let in the waiting elements. Time is relative and it can make restrictive and prescriptive generating confining and defining photographic wonders galore. Just a touch of added extra less and a twitch of fluttering excluded more that nearly made it in all around the edges can be the key to this exposure. There was everything before the lens and now something of almost all that is safely embraced within camera ready for further developments in post production.
