"Suddenly this defeat.
This rain.
The blues gone gray
And the browns gone gray
And yellow
A terrible amber..."

Defeated by my own Christmas decor obsession 🎄💔
This year, I swore I’d resist… but here I am, dangling just one more ornament on my finger.
Three garages full, no space left, and my land impact maxed out.
But hey, Christmas only comes once a year, right? 😅✨
WHAT DEFINES A CHAMPION , IS NOT WINNING BUT RISING AFTER DEFEAT.

DEFEATED BY LOVE
The sky was lit
by the splendor of the moon
So powerful
I fell to the ground
Your love
has made me sure
I am ready to forsake
this worldly life
and surrender to the magnificence
of your Being

The student protests very nearly defeated the coalition less than six months into its rule. MPs voted by 323 to 302 to allow fees to rise to up to £9,000 a year. A coalition majority of 80 fell to 21.
Tens of thousands protested in London on Thursday, and thousands elsewhere. This is not the end, but the beginning of a new phase of revolt.
Students, their parents and many workers will feel a deeper anger now.
A cabinet of 18 millionaires has wrecked the future of millions of young people. It wants to move on to do the same for those who rely on Education Maintenance Allowance.
A policy based on lies, which the Lib Dems pledged not to introduce, was pushed through in the shadow of mounted police charging students.
The main streets outside parliament daubed with graffiti and littered with rocks tells their own story
The police complain that some students “were violent”. But it was the police who spent hours attacking wholly peaceful protesters.
The government “winning” a vote is not the end of the matter. The main protests over Margaret Thatcher’s poll tax in the 1980s took place after the law was passed—and our side won

Landscape photography and the pursuit of beautiful light can be extremely defeating at times. Driving hours and hiking miles all for the conditions to not play out as anticipated. This past weekend I had one of those defeating trips. The sky never cooperated, I drove really far, and the hike was tougher than I expected. On top of that, I lost my sunglasses along the trail. I felt defeated by the mountains that evening. A day later, the forecast looked promising for sunrise in the Indian Peaks. I had scouted this location a couple weeks prior and had been waiting to get a chance at sunrise with it. After a few restless hours of sleep, I hit the road and headed for the mountains once again. I arrived at the trailhead with an optimistic mindset. I had been absolutely denied a couple nights before and I didn't want to be let down again. The sky was looking promising though with clear skies to the east and a bunch of moody clouds above the mountains. I set out for my spot. As I was about a quarter mile in, my headlamp caught a reflection in the bushes about 50 feet from me. After a second, I realized that the reflection was 2 eyeballs staring at me... I looked around and saw about 3 or 4 more pairs of eyes all around me. I carry a small reindeer bell intended for hiking in the dark, so I continued to ring that as I cautiously continued along the trail. I kept looking behind myself in fear that one of those sets of eyes could be a mountain lion. After a few look backs, there was nothing following me and I pushed on. Once I arrived at my spot, I could see the horizon still looking promising and I found my composition and waited. Finally, the light show began! After patiently waiting what felt like all summer for a morning like this, I jumped with joy for the light I was witnessing. As the show continued the light changed from pinks to oranges to a yellowish green. Just as I thought it couldn't get any better, a large rainbow appeared over the mountains... I wasn't able to capture that in a way that portrayed how beautiful it actually was. After about a half hour of an incredible show, the sun climbed up into the clouds and that was my cue to pack up and head home filled with joy.
After making it back to the car, I knew that I would be passing by an area that was ideal for moose. So I got my camera out of my bag and threw on the long lens to have in the seat next to me. Sure enough, as I came around the corner, there they were, 4 big moose enjoying the morning, grazing in the willows. Not far down the road, I found 4 more, couldn't believe it. An incredible sunrise, and 8 moose. Visiting this location over and over allowed me to create some spectacular images. It's the failures that make these mornings so amazing.
If you made it this far reading this, I appreciate you and hope you enjoyed the story behind my image. Landscape photography is a challenge and I love every part of it.
I'll probably post some moose shots later, but if you wanna check out the big guys beforehand, go check em out on my website.

One of the first shots taken on a recent visit to Happisburgh on the North Norfolk Coast. At this location there is lots of historic sea defences which have been battered by the elements over time. This is a small section of those edited in a fine art style.

We came across this lion in a small zoo in Lopburi, where the wild animals do not have large enclosures. This lion looked so defeated, it broke my heart to see him in the cement cage.
In victory or defeat...when all is said and done...all that truly matters is to try. To play the game as best we can.
Modern software has allowed some of the deficiencies of my original shot to be rectified a little. Class 55 'Deltic' No. 55018 Ballymoss stands at Bristol Temple Meads with the ill-fated 'Deltic Ranger' railtour on Sunday 19th February 1978. This railtour, which I travelled on, started from London Paddington and was scheduled to run to Paignton behind the 'Deltic' where preserved 'Westerns' D1013 and D1062 would have taken over for a trip along the Torbay & Dartmouth Railway. In the event, the special train got no further than milepost 118½, its progress halted by severe blizzards in the West Country. Ballymoss ran around the train - try to imagine the sound she made under Francis Fox's canopy here at Temple Meads - and returned to Paddington the way she had come, via Bristol Parkway. Happily, the railtour had a re-run on 5th March when sister locomotive No. 55003 Meld made it to Newton Abbot and back, but the planned 'Western' haulage to Kingswear had to be abandoned because a bridge on the T&DR had been washed away. Yes, I was standing in the four-foot to take this photograph but I can guarantee I wasn't the only one!
I am indebted to the excellent Six Bells Junction web site which provided details of this railtour that I had forgotten.
The look of a defeated man. This episode in human history needs to be looked at and must not be allowed to ever happen again. 1 man.....

At Klis Fortress the Mongols experienced defeat in 1242.
During the Middle Ages, the Kingdom of Croatia was in a personal union with the Kingdom of Hungary, with Béla IV as a king.
When routed on the banks of the Sajó river (Šajo) in 1241 by the Mongols, Béla IV fled to Zagreb Croatia. Batu sent a few tumens (roughly 20,000 men at arms) under Khadan in pursuit of Bela. The major objective was not the conquest but the capture of the Arpad king. The poorly fortified Zagreb was unable to resist the invasion and was destroyed, its cathedral burned by Mongols. In preparation for a second invasion, Gradec was granted a royal charter or Golden Bull of 1242 by King Béla IV, after which citizens of Zagreb engaged in building defensive walls and towers around their settlement.
The Mongols' pursuit of Béla IV continued from Zagreb through Pannonia to Dalmatia. While in pursuit, the Mongols under the leadership of Kadan (Qadan) attacked Klis Fortress in Croatia in March 1242. Due to the strong fortifications of Klis, the Mongols dismounted and climbed over the walls using nearby cliffs. The defenders were able to inflict a number of casualties on the Mongols, which enraged the latter and caused them to fight hand to hand in the streets and gathered a sizable amount of loot from houses. As soon as they learned that King Bela was elsewhere, they abandoned the attack and split off to attack Split and Trogir.
The Mongols pursued Béla IV from town to town in Dalmatia, while Croatian nobility and Dalmatian towns such as Trogir and Rab helped Béla IV to escape. After their defeat against the Croatian soldiers, the Mongols retreated and Béla IV was awarded Croatian towns and nobility.
Some historians claim that the mountainous terrain of Croatian Dalmatia was fatal for the Mongols because of the great losses they suffered from Croat ambushes set up in mountain passes. In any case, though much of Croatia was plundered and destroyed, long-term occupation was unsuccessful.
