Some liberal use of photoshop on this to salvage something from some pretty Welsh conditions.

Caught in a web it was running out of energy fast. The breeze was moving it more than it had strength to do. Soon the clever spider living over our back door would come ...

I've never had luck at Staithes but keep trying and today it payed off. The light was great as I arrived and there was a lovely sky.

But you know, you can’t fight City Hall.

Defeated by my own Christmas decor obsession 🎄💔

This year, I swore I’d resist… but here I am, dangling just one more ornament on my finger.

Three garages full, no space left, and my land impact maxed out.

But hey, Christmas only comes once a year, right? 😅✨

DEFEATED BY LOVE

The sky was lit

by the splendor of the moon

So powerful

I fell to the ground

Your love

has made me sure

I am ready to forsake

this worldly life

and surrender to the magnificence

of your Being

I had time to grab the camera as one of our resident squirrels found an easy way to defeat the built in security of the wire mesh on this feeder. I had only my 85mm manual focus lens to hand but this chap was so confident that it let me get quite near. I feel he deserved a feed before I relocated the feeder in the tree... There's a bit more detail viewed large, but I guess you all know what a squirrel looks like...

Everything I've seen

Never seems to feel me now

No one told me that the world could fall through

In between this am I gonna find a way

To defeat this living inside yesterday

One of the first shots taken on a recent visit to Happisburgh on the North Norfolk Coast. At this location there is lots of historic sea defences which have been battered by the elements over time. This is a small section of those edited in a fine art style.

The thing I will always remember from my first encounter with an Aurora is I nearly didn't get to witness it. I had become very sick in Oslo with a stomach bug and had no energy for 30 hours straight. Fortunately my energy came back only a few hours before I was to depart, then found myself only 36 hours later standing under an amazing sight I had never seen before. It had been a wild ride of emotions, from feeling exhausted and defeated to excitement and euphoria.

- remember those chairs I was beating up a while back? well I ran into my friend and I said unto him "Why ?, pray tell, are you allowing those charming old tulip style chairs to languish in an empty house?" To which he replied "how much will you pay?"

we agreed upon the princely sum of forty bucks a piece.

In victory or defeat...when all is said and done...all that truly matters is to try. To play the game as best we can.

Modern software has allowed some of the deficiencies of my original shot to be rectified a little. Class 55 'Deltic' No. 55018 Ballymoss stands at Bristol Temple Meads with the ill-fated 'Deltic Ranger' railtour on Sunday 19th February 1978. This railtour, which I travelled on, started from London Paddington and was scheduled to run to Paignton behind the 'Deltic' where preserved 'Westerns' D1013 and D1062 would have taken over for a trip along the Torbay & Dartmouth Railway. In the event, the special train got no further than milepost 118½, its progress halted by severe blizzards in the West Country. Ballymoss ran around the train - try to imagine the sound she made under Francis Fox's canopy here at Temple Meads - and returned to Paddington the way she had come, via Bristol Parkway. Happily, the railtour had a re-run on 5th March when sister locomotive No. 55003 Meld made it to Newton Abbot and back, but the planned 'Western' haulage to Kingswear had to be abandoned because a bridge on the T&DR had been washed away. Yes, I was standing in the four-foot to take this photograph but I can guarantee I wasn't the only one!

I am indebted to the excellent Six Bells Junction web site which provided details of this railtour that I had forgotten.

A robed boxer, shoulders hunched, trudging alone back to the locker room. (Actually a shriveled leaf hanging as I found it in natural light.)

Surapadma (surapadman (Tamil: சூரபத்மன்) was an asura who was the son of the asura rishi Vajranaga and the princess Varangi, and the grandson of sage Kashyapa. He was defeated by Murugan but asking for pardon prior to his defeat, was granted the honour of becoming his vahana, the peacock. He is the brother of Singamuka and Tarakasura. His eldest son is Banukopan.

The Helmet Sculpture by Enzo Plazzotta was erected in 1964 to mark the 700 year anniversary of the Battle of Lewes. It is sited beside the ruins of the Priory in Lewes, East Sussex.

The Battle of Lewes was fought on 14th May 1264 between the forces of King Henry III and the barons led by Simon de Montfort. The barons wanted the country governed by a council rather than the king. The king's army camped at this site on 12 th May. The king was defeated and signed a treaty, the Mise of Lewes, restricting his authority. In 1845 a large burial ground was discovered at the Priory containing hundreds of bodies from the battle.

Through the cross openings in the helmet you can see the tower keep of Lewes Castle in the distance.

Last one of the medium format photos I took in Khodynka, certainly the poor planes are loosing the war against the buildings and the elements.
