Taken for the daily photo challenge, "Rust". I decided to use a pair of rusty clippers I have and placed them in some ground cover in the front yard.

Our guide explained that this guy must have lost a serious fight when he was younger, permanently impairing the growth of one of his horns.

Nara is famous for 2 things: a really big buddah statue and an over abundance of docile, "wild" deer that have been spoiled rotton by the thousands of tourists that feed them "deer senbei" sold on the streets like any other vendor food. You don't even need to go to the park to see them... there EVERYWHERE. All the males horns have been sawed off. It's a rather depressing site.

Perhaps mentioned from 1619 by the rider Marin (Giambattista Marino) in his Galleria, this David was probably brought to France by the marechal Charles I of Crequy, whose inventory after his death (1638) mentions such a painting.

Friends, the time has come to expose the perennial infightings of ALSA-SFI and ask them straight: why could they not ensure UGC scholarship from April 2005? Both the organizations are making a lot of noise regarding who did what during last year. who wrote what to the VC, who organized the highest number ofjuloos etc. Most of such noise is fueled by lies like SFI accusing PSU (in their perennial ferishism of putting all other left organizations tOget:tcr) agreeing to keep the MCM scholarship at Rs.l 000. This is an absolute lie. \Ve challenge SFI to prove their accusation by making public the minutes of that meeting or to teud a .

public apology to PSU for conjuring up whi te lies. .

Over the past few years we have witnessed a tremendous degeneration of the democratic-progressive culture for which our campus is known. The perennial infightings of AISA-SFl and their monopolization of the democratic space of the campus are completely responsible for this degeneration. rn the name of fighting right-wing forces (which have got entrenched more and have gone on a shameless otTensive now) the parliamentary hegemonic left forces have completely dcpoliticized the campus and reduced politics to socialization-where votes are solicited on the basis of cxtra·political factors such as who assisted whom during the admission, who gave shelter to whom when s/he did not have hostel accommodation etc. Further, there has been a systemic assault on the forums, spaces and mechanisms that ensured the participation of students in the political process and thereby the accountability of JNUSU. .

For example, how many of us know that JNUSU constitution makes it mandatory to hold at least two GBMs per semester in .

each school? It is not accidental that these GBMs are never organized. There lies the agenda of depoliticiz.ation behind this so as to .

deny the common students the democratic right to participate in the process of agenda setting of schools and the JNUSll. and the right .

to ask pertinent and uncomfortable questions to the elected representatives for not fulfilling the moons they promise during the .

elections. .

.

JNU's academic excellence has always been contingent upon the vibrant left political culture of the campus. A culture where .

common students were not passive recipients and respondents to the agend as set by different organizations, but participated .

massively and actively in formulating the agenda itself. A culture1 where common students engaged critically with their .

concerns (th eoretical as well as practical), and brought that in front of the collective conscience of broader JNU community. .

That's why we succeeded in building a university with a unique Progressive Admission Policy, providing deprivation points to .

students coming from underprivileged backgrounds. a university which resisted introduction or neo·libcral economic agenda in the .

campus. \~hich fought for and \'.On institutions like GSCASH etc Wht:n elitist, castcist. Cl)rnmunnl organizations lik.e YFE emerge to .

.

in the campus becomes a reality, we have to understand that ->omewhcrc a severe degeneration or that cultur~ is taking pln.ce. And the .

parliamentary hegemonic left forces are directly responsible !'or that degeneration which is a n:sull of their politics of socialization and .

symlx>lism. They fought against the ma nifestations of right-wing te ndencies but left the structural roots of casteism, patriarchy .

and religious fundamentalism intact. The 'success' of YFE in last year's election and thm Llf AS VP's lumpenism this year is a .

direct result of such symbolic struggles. .

.

The failure of the parliamentary hegemonic left organizations SFI and AISA has gi\~n space tu the castl!ist YFE, communnl ABVP .
