South Plateau, Montana/Idaho Border

The forested trails south of West Yellowstone, Montana offer good snowmobiling. As the service roads wind upward on this plateau bordering the park, the snow deepens. The powder changes consistency up here around 7500 feet. Everything is encapsulated, snow blasted and wind hardened. The woods I was taking for granted visibly change: every tree, every bough, even the needles stand in sharp relief against each other, the entire forest a subject that stands out. They bear their burden stoically, and I am surprised that, in this little meadow, I feel a peace more commonly found on a summer's day. I let the silence wash over me for a while. When the wind picks up and the temperatures drop after sundown, it will be different. But in the soft light of a winter afternoon, maybe this white forest is not such a harsh beauty after all.

“Contemplative prayer is a deepening of faith that moves beyond thoughts and concepts. One just listens to God, open and receptive to the divine presence in one’s inmost being as its source. One listens not with a view to hearing something, but with a view to becoming aware of the obstacles to one’s friendship with God.”

- Thomas Keating, The Human Condition: Contemplation and Transformation

These carved stones come with interesting titles. They are (from left to right) Deepening Knowledge (1969), Human Sacrifice (1984), Brilliance (1982), and Venus (1980).

This stark setting seems less like a museum show space and more like a factory floor. Perhaps it's the trees and natural light in the corner but it tends to grow on you. These Noguchi sculptures seem right at home.

We've deepened the discount on gacha sets that we plan on completely retiring. From NOW through August 31st, play these machines for just L$10! You read that right! Only L$10 per play on 18 collections that will NEVER EVER return!

Beauty in gloomy rainy Wasdale

Wast Water or Wastwater (/ˈwɒst wɔːtər/) is a lake located in Wasdale, a valley in the western part of the Lake District National Park, England. The lake is almost three miles (five kilometres) long and more than one-third mile (500 m) wide. It is a glacial lake, formed in a glacially "over-deepened" valley. It is the deepest lake in England at 258 feet (79 m). The surface of the lake is about 200 feet (60 m) above sea level, while its bottom is over 50 feet (15 m) below sea level. It is considered relatively oligotrophic. It is owned by the National Trust.

“One of his hands move away from my face to flatten against my back, pulling me closer to him as he deepens the kiss. He parts my lips under his as my mind seems to sign quietly in content. I kiss him back as fiercely as he kisses me, unable to control the infatuation that rushes through me - feeling almost like fireworks. Not so careful anymore.

Little shivers of urgency shoot through me. I push off the window, pressing closer to him. The rush of sensation that is coursing through me feels like I've drunk a gallon of coffee. It feels like an electric buzz is flooding between us.”

🌙 After Hours in Wuzhen

As twilight deepens over the historic water town of Wuzhen, the White Lotus Pagoda stands sentinel—its golden glow casting a gentle watch over ancient rooftops and ivy-covered facades. A moment of quiet stillness, where time feels paused and history breathes through every tile and vine.

Along one of the southern-most trails at Bryce Canyon, a soaking rain deepens the color on a cloudy day.

I don't know why I love this photo so much, I just do.

Not photoshopped, just messed with the contrasts to deepen it a bit.

💋 “Kiss It” & “Babygirl” — by Venus Tattoos

The lights dimmed, the rhythm deepened, and I became nothing but motion and skin. The air shimmered with the pulse of desire, every beat inviting eyes to wander, to linger where my body told its own unspoken story. As I turned, the whispers began — Kiss it... — scrolled in sensual script across the curve of my hip. And when I arched just so, the second mark revealed itself — Babygirl — a confession inked for those close enough to deserve it.

Each tattoo by Venus felt like a secret meant to be discovered under low light and wandering hands. Crafted for BOM mesh bodies and available as mod/copy, they invite the freedom to personalize every mark, every meaning.

The HUDs unfolds a world of temptation:

💎 12 versions in fresh, *faded*, aged, and old finishes

🎨 Color, black & white, and tintable options for endless customization

Layered versatility to complement lingerie, latex, or bare skin

Every variation changes the story: fresh ink for the daring, aged ink for the ones who’ve lived every fantasy twice.

And tonight, beneath the lights, I let them both speak for me — one command, one identity — an unholy duet of pleasure and submission inked into my flesh. I danced for the gaze that understood what those words meant... Kiss it. Babygirl.

Now, it’s your turn to wear the temptation.

Find both tattoos exclusively at the Swank Goth October Event — and make them yours before the lights fade.

This is rust I found on the side of the Great Lakes carrier John D. Leitch. Trying to shoot close up with the Macro, a tripod and calm waters still proved to be a real challenge because even though you don't think this huge ship is moving, it is!

The sun rises over San Francisco Bay, painting the sky in gradients of orange, pink, and deepening blue while the iconic shipyard cranes of Pier 70 stand in silhouette. This is the view that greeted generations of maritime workers arriving for early shifts—the industrial skyline that built America's Pacific naval power now transformed into one of the city's most evocative historic landmarks.

Those gantry cranes marching across the horizon are among the most recognizable structures at Pier 70. Their skeletal steel frameworks, designed for lifting massive ship components and machinery, create a rhythmic pattern against the colorful dawn sky. During World War II, cranes like these operated around the clock, hoisting steel plates, engines, and armaments onto vessels destined for the Pacific theater. The distinctive A-frame shape allowed them to straddle railway tracks that once crisscrossed the shipyard, moving materials from fabrication shops to drydocks with industrial efficiency.

The water catches and reflects the warm sunrise colors, creating a mirror image that doubles the visual impact. San Francisco Bay has always been central to the city's identity and economy—first as a Gold Rush gateway, then as a maritime and naval powerhouse, and now as a contested space where public access, environmental restoration, and development pressures collide. This particular stretch of waterfront, once closed to civilians for security and operational reasons, has gradually opened to public use as the shipyard's industrial functions wound down.

Sailboat masts visible on the left frame the scene, reminding us how this working waterfront has transitioned. Where cargo ships and naval vessels once dominated, recreational sailors now navigate these waters. It's a shift repeated across San Francisco's waterfront—from commercial and industrial uses toward residential, recreational, and mixed-use development. The tension between honoring maritime heritage and accommodating contemporary urban needs defines much of the conversation around places like Pier 70.

The composition itself emphasizes the scale and drama of industrial infrastructure. Silhouetting the cranes against the saturated sky transforms functional machinery into sculpture, their geometric forms creating visual interest through repetition and variation. The foreground remains in deep shadow, focusing attention on that brilliant horizon where industrial history meets natural beauty. This is the kind of view that makes San Francisco special—a city where working landscapes and stunning natural settings coexist, where you can witness both human ambition and environmental grandeur in a single frame.

For decades, these cranes represented economic vitality and American industrial might. Now they stand as monuments to a bygone era, preserved not for their utility but for their historical and aesthetic value. Their presence reminds us that San Francisco wasn't always a tech hub—it was a city built by people who worked with their hands, who built ships and loaded cargo, who operated cranes and welded steel. As the city transforms, these structures anchor us to that history.

there sprang up, in place of them, ten by ten of the ruby-red asphodel. And life arose in our paths; for the tall flamingo hitherto unseen, with all gay glowing birds, flaunted his scarlet plumage before us. The golden and silver fish haunted the river... (Edgar Allan Poe)

“In the deepening spring of May, I had no choice but to recognize the trembling of my heart. It usually happened as the sun was going down. In the pale evening gloom, when the soft fragrance of magnolias hung in the air, my heart would swell without warning, and tremble, and lurch with a stab of pain. I would try clamping my eyes shut and gritting my teeth, and wait for it to pass. And it would pass –but slowly, taking its own time, and leaving a dull ache behind.”

Now the shades

are deepening round the feet of the tall trees,

Bending the head of the pale blossoms down

Upon their mother's bosom, where the breeze

Comes with a low sweet hymn and balmy kiss,

To lull them to repose. Look now, and see

How every mountain, with its leafy plume,

Or rocky helm, with crest of giant pine,

Is veil'd with floating amber, and gives back

The loving smile of the departing sun,

And nods a calm adieu.

Before the snows pile up and deepen over our Minnesota frozen lakes, there is a comparatively brief time when the ice is clear enough to enjoy two sunrises, the real one and the reflected one on a cold winter's morning.

You cannot lengthen your life,

nor can you increase it.

But you can deepen it.

One of the best views I could photograph at the Cathedral Gorge SP in Nevada was the view looking down from the top of miller point. It had these fantastic rock formations that resembled geographical features that I had seen before at Bryce and Capitol Reel National Park, albeit on a smaller scale. However, the colors of the rocks were more yellowish than red. Also, unlike the expansive national parks, the interesting bits were packed into a small area at Cathedral Gorge, making it easier to create some fantastic images.

In a dark time, the eye begins to see,

I meet my shadow in the deepening shade;

I hear my echo in the echoing wood--

A lord of nature weeping to a tree,

I live between the heron and the wren,

Beasts of the hill and serpents of the den.

Some more shots and brief video from a recent walk home along the Union Canal, at the tail-end of a perfect autumn day in Scotland - gorgeous, golden, autumn light and a magnificent blue sky. This was the last hour of daylight, so a mix of lovely, low sunlight and deepening shadows.

Remembrance For The Fallen in the 1st & 2nd World Wars - The Tower of London, London

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of wearing a remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty. Following a tradition inaugurated by King George V in 1919,[1] the day is also marked by war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. In most countries, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the end of First World War hostilities. Hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918, in accordance with the armistice signed by representatives of Germany and the Entente between 5:12 and 5:20 that morning. ("At the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am.) The First World War officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June 1919.

Since my last visit, they've deepened the hole considerably and have recently installed a construction crane.

I am struck by how the water deepens the color of the reflection.

"So...um..."

I blinked in surprise as my sweetheart turned from our embrace to reach into a drawer behind him and carefully withdraw something from inside. When he turned to face me again a moment later he was holding a small music box in his hand. With a deepening blush and a bashful smile, he held it out for me to see and explained, "I made this for you."

"Oh!"

A soft smile touched my lips and I felt myself blush as well. I was touched by this sweet gesture of his! I smiled up at him with surprise and curiosity.

"Thank you! But what's this for? It's not my birthday!"

He laughed softly and slid his arm around my shoulders. He explained, "No, I know. I just wanted to give you a reason to smile."

"But you always give me a reason to smile!" I exclaimed with a soft laugh. Pulling my gaze from his I returned my attention to the small music box. Reaching up, I gently turned the crank all the way and let it play. And as I did, I opened the box and gazed inside.

My heart began to melt as I saw the little details of the two small male figures that resembled us dancing under a painted sky of twinkling stars, the moon, and a shooting star.

"Thank you. This is so beautiful..."

And as I leaned my head against his shoulder, I brought my hand to my chest. There was no doubt about it. I know we'd only known each other a short time and we shouldn't rush anything...but I couldn't help but find myself falling in love...

I love this shot of the mountains! The afternoon shadows are deepening, and it just proved to be a beautiful shot. This, of course, is the Grand Teton National Park. I had just finished a number of shots at Mormon Row, the Moulton Barn to be exact, and I was heading to Jenny Lake, as my last stop for the evening, and this shot just grabbed my attention! Hope you all enjoy!
