Dead Horse Point, Utah
We are looking down from Dead Horse Point upon a gooseneck of the Colorado River while storm clouds pass by in the distance.
We're also looking at roughly 100 million years of geological history. The sandstone at the edge of the Colorado River was laid down during the Pennsylvanian period, perhaps 275 million years ago, while the Navajo sandstone capping the Island in the Sky area in the distance to our right was deposited during the Jurassic period about 175 million years ago. Subsequent sedimentary deposits have been eroded away during the uplift of the Colorado Plateau.

Cone Flowers in the Universal Dream
In twilight's whisper, petals unfold,
Cone flowers dance where shadows are bold.
Their colors bleed into the vast unknown,
A symphony of dreams, yet to be sown.
Beneath the stars, they sway and spin,
Mirrors of thoughts from worlds deep within.
Each blossom a secret, a story untold,
In the garden of cosmos, enigmas unrolled.
With roots in the earth and heads in the sky,
They cradle our hopes as we wander and sigh.
In surreal fields where realities gleam,
Cone flowers bloom in the Universal Dream.
This mallard hen was fully engaged in cleaning her feathers, allowing me to approach very closely. I moved on before she was disturbed. In Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Portland.
It's hard to capture or describe the deep blues of Crater Lake. The reflection of blue and green light waves off of the surface of the colorless water, and the fact that the lake is fed by solely by precipitation and not external streams, results in crystal clear water with a sky blue color. Provia slide film did an admirable job here, but in person the lake surface and sky are even more vivid.
This was our second winter trip down to Crater Lake. The first provided for some awesome snowshoeing and beautiful forests, but the lake was completely socked in by fog. This trip we had beautiful views across the lake, just enough clouds to add visual interest to the sky, and a beautiful contrast between the white mountains and deep blue lake.

The weather forecast predicts a nice morning and showers later today so I ran out early to a nearby street, one of the most picturesque in the city.
I first tried Focus Stacking but the results were awful, I put it in my photo stream should you be interested. Biggest problem is that the wind is rather strong so that the clouds are not cooperating with a focus stack.
Then I used a very small diaphragm and noticed on manual focus and focus assist that actually at F18 the whole picture is in focus. I did use a tripod to get a nice stable shot.
In post I upped the sky a bit although it was already very pretty. Very Dutch too....
